PS3 Release for Dawnguard, DLC etc... #36

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 2:32 pm

this is for Vamp, there is a way to use your ps3 controller for skyrim. motion joy does wonders, it's how I use my controller for the desktop. much much easier for combat and traveling than keyboard and mouse.

Yeah I know - it DOES work, BUT because it's a remote controller (even though I have it wired to the PC) it also still wants to control the PS3 at the same time which means other people in the house cam't play on the PS3 while I'm on the PC playing - I have a separate wired and non remote PS3 style gamepad for the PC which motion joy CAN'T seem to get to work even with updated drivers and in xbox emulation mode :(

Incidentally this same gamepad works a dream with every other game I own on PC

so theres nothing new then? i was excited when they said close but how close? I'll only believe it when i see release date, plz let it be soon i'm deciding whether to buy the season pass for borderlands 2 or hang on for this.

I just hope theres a good reason why bethesda are so quiet lately, the lack of new information is disturbing , i've been quite patient i'll wait a bit longer but after that i'll go play something else.

I believe you mis understand what pete said. he was referring to the post on November 7th (Wednesday) that was tweeted by Bethesda Game Developers

To update: we’re also close on new Skyrim content for PS3 and PC.

There is no update coming on Wednesday at this point in time
There should be an update, dlc is close could mean anything, next week, next month or next year.

You can reset the PS3 controller using the button on the back and it'll unpair/desync from the console thus no longer turning it on and off when you use it on the PC.

The ps3 (and X) are pretty amazing when you think about it. A game console 6 yo that can run these huge games plus all the other stuff it has and does. All in one fairly inexpensive box.
And much more stable then any windows based pc.
If you have tried running any of these games on pc you can appreciate the stability of the boxes. The pc versions are far from plug and play, even though the upside of graphics and gameplay is amazing.
It will be interesting if they dare invest in another generation of consoles and what their uses will be.
Hopefully db is written correctly the first time in such a way they don't have to db dumb down the graphics.
I could care less about dg other then a few weapons.
Here's to some awesome DB content and maybe some fixes and dlc for the main game later.

And if I want to use the same controller on the PS3 at a later date can i pair/sync it again?

Yes. It's basically a big pain if you don't plan on dedicating one controller to the PC. I've found the drivers to be somewhere between a finicky mess and a blue screen inducing nightmare which eventually lead me to just spending the $30 on a wired 360 controller awful d-pad and all.

Oh also, if you don't want to do the pair/unpair stuff then simply unplug the PS3 when you go to play on PC.

So, you announce that dlc is close, but you won't say how close it is. Why would you stir up interest if there are no plans to release it yet?

As far as I know, they never said DLC, just "content" which could be anything. Hell, when they gave us mounted combat and broken kill cams that could be called "content."
They said it just to say they said something. "We did give an update! See, we're communicating!"
Personally, I think it was just to shut us up and get the optimists out of the woodwork to balance out all of the flaming and negativity.
It's the same line they have been spouting since Dawnguard came out, just worded differently.

Right now, we're watching Bethesda sweat bullets. They have been releasing broken games for years, and DLC on top of the broken games that make the games unplayable. This time, however, the media is watching their every move. They are getting an article on gaming sites following every tweet. They are getting articles if they don't say anything. If they screw up one more time, they are going to get the destroyed within the gaming community. Gaming sites, and I would even wager Playstation magazine, will write up articles condemning Bethesda for their failure. They are truly in a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation. Don't release any DLC for the PS3, get flamed, release DLC that breaks the game, get flamed, if they don't fix the vanilla version, they will get flamed. Add to all of that, if they release DLC for the PS3 do they try full price, or give the PS3 users some kind of discount? What kind of discount could they give that wouldn't make the 360 crowd cry and whine? The issue is, how to reverse years of habits and porting "skills" to make the game playable on the PS3, yet not spend the company into the poorhouse to do it, all while concentrating on more DLC, a GOTY version of the game, and other side projects they have like ESO.

Yes, they dug their own hole with this one from day one. Now, they are scrambling to crawl out while the walls are crumbling around them. I've seen some companies sweat like this before, but they were willing to knuckle up and fix their problems as they always could, but they thought they could "cheap out" and not have anyone notice. Right now, I'm wondering if Bethesda even has the ability to fix their problems. How long would a full recall and re-release take if they bit the bullet and reprogrammed Skyrim for the PS3?

I would ask someone at Bethesda, Pete Hines, Todd Howard, gstaff, for answers, but we all know they are just a fount of information at the moment. I think these are good and appropriate questions. We, the PS3 users, have paid full price for defective merchandise, for some of us it's we've bought defective merchandise again. We know Bethesda's past when it comes to fixing broken games, as in they don't. We are tired of the "we'll let you know" crap. That is almost as bad as no update. We deserve much better than Bethesda is treating us, and the company should be thanking whatever god or gods they believe in that they are in the gaming software industry and not any other, or their current situation would be more "stressful and expensive" right now if one reads between the lines and gets my meaning.

This whole situation, debacle, cluster bug, whatever you want to call it and get past the censors, just makes me sick that a company can behave this way. Some may say "it's just a game" but to me it's more. I don't have many hobbies or the ability to afford them, and my wife and I used to love this game. She actually liked just watching me play and helping me out a bit by searching the internet for the occasional answer. Not to mention it's the principle of getting sold a defective product, that the company knew was defective, through lies, deceit, misrepresentation, and fraud.

We should be close to the patch release at this point. Almost 2 weeks since it was released out of Beta on PC. Once that happens, we will hopefully be, dare I say, very close to a "content" release? Trying to stay optimistic, but Bethesda is making it hard. I have a feeling we will just wake up some day with whatever they are going to release with no announcement before it.

Does anyone know what the point is behind the whole "veil of secrecy" crap Bethesda is still pulling? "We can't let you know anything right now. When we can, we will." Seriously, what is the point?

https://twitter.com/andrewliberacki If I had info on that I could share, I would share it with everyone. Not just as a reply to one person. When I can, I will."

Info I "could" share? "When I can, I will."? Does it sound like he is under a gag order or nondisclosure agreement to anyone else? Do they really think all of this will make the PS3 fanbase feel better? Due to overall lack of information, and the amount of time the PS3 users have been screwed over, I think coming forth with anything they have, not just saying "content", would be a good idea, a gesture of good faith, and something that will keep even more PS3 users from pulling a rage quit on Bethesda. Enough of this "I have a secret but can't tell you yet" stuff.

Teasers are great if someone is in a good mood. Teasers are absolutely insulting when someone has been screaming for information for almost a year and getting nothing. I equate it to giving a starving dog a rubber bone.

If I didn't know any better, I would think they don't have anything to share and are just stalling. In fact, that is what my assumption will be from here on out. Unless I hear something concrete, I will just write off everything gstaff posts.

The nebulous term content is being used because said content is very lacking in comparison to the proper DLC. One would also hope that Sony is being extra careful with any content in terms of cert less they also look like total fools having now admitted to working with Bethesda.

My thoughts exactly.

The only two logical explanations are this:

1. An attempt to keep stringing people along to keep them interested and help them ignore the crappy support they've received on their console

or

2. It really is that close, but they don't want to commit to a specific date yet because it would upset the Xbox execs, someway somehow....

As many companies said, the PS3 is hard to work with. It may very well be the better graphics (which may or may not be true, it's irrelevant) or it may just be Bethesda.

When was the last time a company came out and said this? 2007, 2008? Those companies that have since said that have come out multiple titles and figured it out, and they did it by released the game and support on the same days as their counterparts. What did they learn? They build each version from the ground up with no lead platform. Just ask Rockstar or Activision (or whoever made [insert CoD title here]).

So we're back to where we were before the announcement / update - "we're working on it" and "we're close" - i.e back to the status quo then - dangling with no substantive information.... sounds about right for Bethesda

if I turn off the PS3 it's back to my original problem, no one else can play on the PS3 while I play Skyrim on the PC

AND to add insult to injury it's not like my PC gamepad is a cheap one either, it cost me as much as a wired xbox controller would - I'm not spending another £30 on an xbox controller just to play one game grrr

People really need to stop this BS of blaming Xbox for the PS3 not getting DLC, plain and simple to understand Bethesda screwed up your version of the game and in turned screwed you. Now please stop blaming the other platforms for problems that are Bethesda's fault.

I don't think he's under a gag order. I just think he can't be bothered to walk over to where the programmers are and find out what the situation is.

^---This!

Hines is the VP of PR and Marketing. Now while i don't know how the internal pecking-order at Bethesda is set up; i do know from places i've worked that if a VP of ANY department wants info from another, its at most a phone call away. For goodness sake, this guy is the person in charge disseminating information and setting the policies ON the dissemination of info.

So no, i don't think someone is making this guy hold his tongue. This is him being boneheaded and afraid of any type of transparency with a segment of his customer base that he has marginalized for far too long. He knows Bethesda is in deep crap in regards to its PS3 customers and he in particular is persona non grata; he is mums on anything now because its the only avenue he has left himself at this point.

I'm starting to wonder why we see multiple daily tweets from TESOnline with more specific information about a game not coming out until next year but still can't get a straight answer for something that has been out for over a year. I agree with everyone saying that if they are "close" they could give some sort of answer...before/after Dragonborn? Are you waiting to see when 1.8 gets approved? "Close" and "soon" are your new "we're working on it" and that hasn't gone very well.

And, for Bethesda...if your VP of PR can't make decisions about what info to give, tell us who can and we will wait to hear from them. I'm sure Mr. Hines would like the break.
