PS3 Release for Dawnguard - Thread #17

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 1:38 am

Borderlands 2 is coming out. And AC3, and Bioshock Infinite...Dishonored just got pushed back to "rent it from gamefly" or "buy it for cheap with tax return money" in all likelihood. I'll probably still buy Hearthfire if it ever comes out for the PS3, but if the rest of the add-ons are just minor additions I seriously doubt I'll care enough until sometime around time to buy the GOTY edition six months after it releases.

And this is where Bethesda is going to start taking the hurt. Not necessarily from the people who stop buying their products (though that will definitely hurt) but from the far larger group of people who will treat it as a far lower monetary priority and buy it second-hand from somewhere like Gamestop or Gamefly or Amazon...where they won't see NEARLY as much money from all those sales, and spend the real money on games they feel more confident will perform up to standard on their system of choice by developers they feel they can trust more.

At this point I've settled into the detached bemusemant, waiting to see JUST how long it takes them to do something...and whether or not they're going to bite the bullet this time and actually try to make some amends.

Should be a fun watch.

Forget DG. I have no real interest anymore, nor in HF. I have begun research on gathering lore to build a Slayers game (based on the anime) using RPG Maker VX Ace. This will take up my time in story writing, programming, and play-testing. I have always wanted an RPG based on The Slayers series (none were released in the USA) and this is going to be a huge undertaking.

Farewell Bethesda. Maybe the GOTY edition will be bought down the road. For now I am investing my time in my own project.

I have a suggestion: For those of you who haven't, get Demon and Dark Souls. I got them almost two weeks ago and I am loving my time with them. The difficulty is highly exaggerated but the fun factor is not. I finished Demon Souls and started Dark Souls. I got 10 hours already, with a 9mb savefile from all the armors I have collected I have seen no performnce issues. I have been playing this game marathon style and I haven't gotten 1 freeze or crash. Every day it's more evident that Bethesda knows jack [censored] about making working games. The art department is amazing but I can't enjoy any of those things if the game constantly freezes or crashes very often.

If you got the money for Dawnguard. Don't waste it in a product that is likely to give you diarrhea. Allow yourself to have fun and spend it on a great working game such as demon and dark souls which you can get for the same price as Dawnguard without the diarrhea and stop supporting mediocre products :)

This exactly! The Souls games are great.

I also picked up Assassins Creed Revelations new for $9.99 and if you like the series, that's a great bargain.

^^^This. Especially Dark Souls. Pretty cool unique aspect of SP RPG with MP capabilities. Sort of like Diablo, but nothing like it.

Plus the Dragons in Dark Souls? You don't want to mess with like the ones in Skyrim. They make Skyrim dragons look like oversized salamanders with an inferiority complex. Though the game itself doesn't have as much content (roughly 30-40% the content) as the vanilla skyrim.

I would like to try to find a different game. Does anyone know a "magical" based game. Like Psi-ops perhaps...something with offensive abilities....like telekinesis..so i can throw someone against a wall....or shooting lightning from my fingertips.....anything like that? Thats why i like skyrim....you can kick some ass with supernatural abilities. Those are the kind of games i like..(NOT STAR WARS)

Didn't revelations came with AC1. I liked how the gameplay and the atmosphere felt in the first one. Better than the sequels in my opinion. However the repetitive missions I did not care for.

Ha! I shot 100 arrows on that red dragon on the bridge only to find out that I can't kill him. Dumped the sword too (the drake sword?) Too overpowered for my liking :)

**TWITTER UPDATE**

https://twitter.com/DCDeacon Based on what you told me, can you tell me when you'll have something concrete to tell us, about Dawnguard for the PS3?

https://twitter.com/HPLA1 no, I can't. don't have a timeframe, don't have a guess

https://twitter.com/DCDeacon I'm a PS3 Skyrim player and I've sunk 190 hrs. into the game and got all the achmnts. Can you guys please just release dwngrd?

https://twitter.com/DuhamelNathan We're trying.

https://twitter.com/DCDeacon Bethesda makes the best games in the world. But at this point it seems you simply ported the 360-optimised version to the PS3.

https://twitter.com/falconofstorms there is no such thing as "simply porting" from one console to another. They work differently.

https://twitter.com/DCDeacon I don't want to believe that TESV wasn't optimised for PS3 because I'm a Bethesda really devoted fan but no other explanation presents itself.

https://twitter.com/falconofstorms it has to be optimized. there's no other way to get a game that big and dynamic to run otherwise.

https://twitter.com/DCDeacon Fair enough. It's just that specifics would calm people down. Unless the specifics show they cheaped out somehow. Have a nice day

WILL POST ANY OTHER UPDATES BETWEEN NOW AND 4PM ASAP. I HAVE TO WORK 4PM TO MIDNIGHT TONIGHT...THE RESTURAUNT WONT RUN ITSELF! ;)

Sadly, the PS3 console platform and the gamers that play exclusively on it, historically speaking at least, has always been treated as "third class" by Bethesda. The DLCs for Fallout New Vegas after "Dead Money" were the exception, but sadly not the rule.

Much to the detriment of non XBOX360 owners, Microsoft will probably continue paying out for "timed exclusive" DLC contracts and publishers like Bethesda will continue taking the money. Sure, it's good for Microsoft, good for Bethesda and good for the the gamers who own and game the Xbox 360 console.

But for the rest of us: It's not so good for PC players who have to wait out the timed exclusive and even worse for PS3 players. Specifically in the case of the Dawnguard DLC as the Bethesda developers strive at making the Dawnguard DLC release for the PS3 stable and playable, hopefully treating this issue with the PS3 Dawnguard DLC port as their highest priority.

Though seeing that it has already been one month past the PC release, and they have already moved on to developing and releasing the second Skyrim DLC Hearthfire for the Xbox 360, I seriously doubt it that it's their "highest" priority. With no other knowledge at hand, it feels as if the PS3 platform and the gamers to play on it are just an afterthought to Bethesda at best and until they say otherwise, I'll continue assuming that is indeed the case!

Of course a little communication from Bethesda with the PS3 Skyrim gamers/fans would go a long way. If making timely PS3 releases is not their "strong suit" at they very least, they can work on their public relations with the PS3 gamers, communicate with us and give us your assurances that you care about more than just taking our money and that you want to keep us as your loyal fans and at the very best they can put more development resources into the project and even outsource more seasoned PS3 developers to speed up the release of their already missed Dawnguard deadline.

This is the age of communication and there's really no excuse for keeping us PS3 Skyrim gamers in the dark like this for over a month!!!

Anyway that's just my humble opinion...

  • I seriously wished I would have come to this realization sooner before I started getting their games, or tried getting their games.
  • At least some companies now refuse this timed exclusive money, like Rockstar. They realized the potential loss in doing so and stopped doing it after GTA4.
  • Not until they say otherwise, but until they PROVE otherwise. Pretty much anything they say now is more hollow than a tennis ball.
  • If only they would realize that in the first place: just say "we having a hard time with XXX and XXXXXX" and more people would be more understanding because then you show you at least KNOW what the problem is beyond the fact that you couldn't code it properly in the first place. the fact it took them this long to bring in some people from Sony (or so they claim, Sony has not confirmed this at all) shows either their arrogance, ignorance, possibly both, and a disregard for customer support.
  • totally agree

After reading a bit on Dawnguard (not spoilers, but the general complaint of really random/too many town attacks....) I might just pass on it if it EVER comes out for PS3. Now Hearthfire looks like something I'd enjoy for some RP purposes, but again, has to hit PS3.

I have a laptop with Skyrim on it and it handles fine, just low level character, and not character of choice to play with. But if worse comes to worse...

Anyone play fallout 3 recently, it is still full of bugs, same goes for NV. I have no faith that the DLC is coming to ps3, And I for one will not be buying any other bethesda titles if this turns out to be the case.

I think Im pretty much done. Im selling off the skyrim game, getting rid of my Oblivion, trading in my New Vegas and Fallout 3. Bethesda you obviously dont care about what you lose or to whom. Its sad that most of the people that have complianed about the PS3 games will probably buy a 360 or purchase PC versions of these games. As for me I am done with you. I shall never purchase another Bethesda game again. Thanks for the memories.

Fine they can't get it to work for the ps3, so why not develop New DLC that does work for the ps3! that is sold only on the ps3?

Try Bioshock. its more of a first person shooter but its ok for the magical lightning/fire/frost stuff. and you can throw dumpsters and trash cans at people!
