PS3 Release for Dawnguard - Thread #17

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 6:47 am

Take the map from Red Dead Redemption, turn the small towns and such into the ruins of cities, throw in fallout weapons and enemies and wham.

Just saying, the RDR map is no where near the square mileage of Skyrim. However the in-game player graphics and physics make up for that and do cost a lot of ram. However, this was a game that was also built seperately on each platform, optimized to each system.

Just like GT5, again a game with HUGE ram demands and HUGE savefiles. Though this was an exclusive, and even if it wasn't, the Xbox actually had little chance of handling what the PS3 had and it would have been a watered down overall performance of the game (and most likely 3-4 discs)

I know this will make me sound like a complete dike, but I'm actually enjoying them twisting in the wind a bit, because if they continue to fail and eventually admit that they sold a broken product (directly or indirectly), they're going to face a big lawsuit.

Unless say Sony(for breaching contract and not releasing DLC for Dawnguard on the PS3) or Microsoft(for accepting money for a service they didn't provide) does it, Bethesda isn't in any real danger of being sued. I mean they have been in CYA mode since the initial 30 day exclusivity for Dawnguard on Xbox 360 started. Slimy behavior no doubt, but not illegal imo.

I don't enjoy this - not one little bit.

I used to love TES, like 1/3 of my life I've been playing this franchise and now they just deuced in a box and sold it to me. Then they keep with the patronizing remarks and falsehood campaign.

To me there isn't anything good about this, basically the one series I have ever really 'loved' as a gamer is gone for me now.

Illegal and legal have nothing to do with it, not in a civil case.

And while those activities are not illegal, if they're proven to be guilty of false advertising which there is more than enough grounds to do so, then that is illegal.

All Bethesda has to do to doge that is point at the statements they have given where they say they are 'trying' or 'continuing to work on the problem'. Like i said, they have been in CYA mode quite a while now.

Not foolproof. Sure it covers them for now, but if that's their defense, they'll have to provide proof that they are in fact "continuing to work on the problem." That means they'll have to provide paperwork, likely payroll, that shows that at least one person in their employ is being hired specifically to address the problem. Not as a side job either. As their main focus. The instant that division gets shut down, and they can't provide the paperwork to prove they are in fact trying to solve things, they could very easily get sued. Whether or not it'd actually go to court, it'd get dismissed, or they'd settle out of court is another matter. But they can only hold up this front for so long.

Exactly, thanks for expanding on it.

And like most civil suits that this could potentially be, an out-of-court settlement is most likely in the end because it saves everybody time, saves the company money, and the person(s) who are filing against them get something out of it.

I would literally be happy for my $60 to be returned so I could go buy a PC version to see if it would work on my computer with the same or better graphics.

Don't get me wrong, not at all pleased about how Bethesda is behaving in all of this. I just don't see how litigiousness, of any degree, is the way to go-even speculatively. IMO it shouldn't even be brought into the discussion until Bethesda has fully completed the fail and stated that they can not bring the DLC to PS3.

It forces their hand, and either makes them actually buckle down and provide proof they are actively working on the problem, or it makes them admit their failings, dispense compensation, and lose a lot of face and credibility in the gaming community. So then they have to step up their game and make sure their next product is not only good on a creative level, but on a technical level as well, and isn't nearly as glitchy as we've seen in the past.

I call that a win-win for us.

I have to agree with this - let them make the mistake first, then we can talk. I wouldn't do it myself, but it would get mighty interesting if someone did force their hand.

Sony perhaps?

If they think they can make money of it then no doudt plenty of Law Companies would line up to take the case for some angry fans.. although again we need to wait until they admit they stopped working on....

nice video about dawnguard on ps3
its not nice the guy in this video is an idiot & a bethesda really devoted fan. i find it funny he made a video saying skyrim svcks & bethesda should be ashamed but in yet he still defense them saying its sony's fault, not bethesda's.
oh yeah & he forgot to say everyone didn't like it when it first come out & sense then ( how about a year after ps3 was released ) those companys learned to use the ps3 & sense then 80% of games that come out for both consoles work fine.
& he also forgot to say that not everone had these problems. some games were perfectly fine.
he also add things like they are right now recoding dawnguard from the ground up on ps3 & we may never get it. question...........WHEN WAS THAT EVER SAID AT ALL!!!! answer..........NEVER!!
& finally, nothing he stated was facted just opinion stated like a facted. all his points were wrong & he was misinfromed on whats going on.
a: if the ps3's the problem, then why on earth have they stated & stormwatcher can confirm it. that dawnguard is working on some ps3's not all.
b: how is it sony's fault that bethesda made a deal & didn't have all verisons ready before the release was even said. thats just bad business.
i'm done. that is all.

In the beginning I was hoping that Skyrim dlc/expansions would go above and beyond the base game, but now I hope that the dlc/expansions will actually arrive on the ps3.

This is not sonys fault! Sick of hearing people say that. Not sure how ps4 will be to develop on but i wouldnt be surprised to see bethesda studio games become xbox exclusives. Sad to say it but maybe it would have been best to not release skyrim on ps3.

Nah, It would have been better if Bethesda actually tried with the PS3 version and fixed big mistakes ahead of time before being tangled in a web of lies and hate.

I waited patiently. I filled my Wallet with lots of money. I read all the updates and blogs waiting for the release. Nothing. In my line of work and I would bet in most other lines of work that If an employee was unable to complete a task, action was taken. What action was taken in this instance? Who is responsible? Did they not have a dealine to release this DLC? The time limit was not met. In my job, if I am not able to complete a task at the time given, I am replaced. They find someone who can do the job ontime and correctly. Why are they not able to find someone who can do the job? In my opinion, (which probably doesn't matter) This company is showing by the actions taken, that we the consumer are not important. How I wonder do they expect to get any loyalty from the customer. I do not complain usually, but this has gone on too long.

I waited eight months for for Fallout 3 DLC, thats how long it took from the DLC release on the 360 to release on the PS3. The original deadline was a four month wait but it got pushed back two or three times. So I fail to see how you've waited at all.

Video is misleading. Beth has not said anything about it NOT coming to ps3...it is not official

haha I understand you're optimistic, but they have hinted the possibility now. They haven't said it's absolute, but they have said it is a possibility.

Anyways I preordered AC3 today, sold my copy of skyrim. Sold a bunch of other games to gamespot too and got more than enough for a full payment of AC3

Skyrim went for $25.50
they had a 50% + to all trade ins which worked well in my favor, PS3 copy of that game of course.

sold another 8 games with it for store credit, got a total of $90.75

$63.59 went towards my full payment and preorder of AC3.

So dunno if all gamestops are having that deal, but if they are well, those not just talking out their asses about never touching the game again or never buying a beth game or dawnguard, here's the opportunity to cash in on it.

i just think everyone is tired of the several month waits for fixes and DLC's when everyone else is getting them, and fearing that based on the track record that they will simply have to wait many more months just like it happened before.

While i'm not frothing at the mouth for Dawnguard, just because you waited 8+ months for DLC yrs ago isn't any kind of excuse for what's going on currently.

I mean you keep bringing it up, but the Bethesda top brass specifically said that stuff like your personal experience would NOT be happening this time around on PS3 with Skyrim. Its part of the reason some ppl(myself included) decided to get the game in the first place.

So no, it hasn't been 8 months, but after we were assured of content on the same time-frame as other platforms, ppl are justified being a little peeved at this point don't you think? I do.anyways.

Is it Sony's fault that Bethesda is having a hard time with Dawnguard? No.
Is it Sony's fault that the PS3 is the most complicated platform to code for? Yes.

Technically the PS3 is more difficult to code for, BUT Bethesda has had plenty of time to learn the ins and outs of the system. The 30 day exclusive period should have provided ample time to make sure optimization for PS3 was perfect. But, Bethesda refused to hire enough PS3 specialists and had no clue how to code for the PS3. They've taken so long, and angered so many PS3 owners that Sony had to step in. I have no doubt that Bethesda didn't beg Sony for help, actually, I think Sony came knocking on Bethesda's door.

At any point in this products history we can point out that it is most definitely not fit for its intended use. And any product you sell is most definitely required to be fit for its intended use. I engineer devices that are sold in the EU and US, both places have consumer protection laws.

While the product on any of the three platforms isn't a completely clear cut comparison, the top brass at Bethesda promising 'parity' could set the predicate device as either the Xbox 360 or PC with minimum specifications. We can certainly point to our purchased product as failing miserably to meet the performance on either of those predicate devices.

While i'm not frothing at the mouth for Dawnguard, just because you waited 8+ months for DLC yrs ago isn't any kind of excuse for what's going on currently.

Murt raised a very interesting point of view, which I'm inclined to agree with, in another thread.

In short he put forward the idea of any announcement of cancellation of DLC on PS3 wouldn't be arrive until after Dishonored's been shipped to retailers.

This wouldn't surprise me in the least!

Your thoughts fellow forumites...?

it's possible seeing as to how many have sworn off all beth products if this doesnt go right. So squeezing out the last 60 dollars they can get out of some people
