PS3 Release for Dawnguard - Thread #17

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 8:42 pm

I think now is the time that a company with better programmers steps up to take the "best sandbox RPG title" away from Bethesda.

From? Rockstar? ....EA!? cmon guys, give these lazy bums some competition.

I dream of the day we get a new sandbox RPG that is better than Skyrim and treats all of its customers the same.

Chill dont switch platforms just for Dawnguard its not even worth it. Plus PS3 has way better exclusives coming out like The Last of us, and Metal Gear ground zeros if your a metal gear fan.

I agree with him don't switch consoles, its a waste to switch over one game. :)

Not to be pessimistic, but at this point what hope is there? If it ever does release, it will be a mess.

I know of several people who actually switched to Xbox due to this debacle.

You bring up a good point.

Competition is great for consumers. It motivates companies to go the extra step to put out a good product. In this case, I think some serious competition that could rival Bethesda would be fantastic.

I totally agree Beth needs some serious competition in the sand-box rpg arena. They've become lazy and complacent.

I'd love to see Projekt Red do something for multiplatform, their games have been well recieved (in large part from what I've read) and look pretty damn good. I'd love to see Obsidian get back on their feet and do some more console stuff too.

While we're in this wishful thinking mode I'd love to see some great British writers contribute to big game worlds.
Terry Pratchett's work would be a start, Neil Gaimen (possibly some of his Neverwhere stuff?), Robert Rankin, or even the guys from good British drama/sci fi the writers of Dr Who, Being Human, Downton Abbey (I jest about the last one!)

After this debacle I wouldn't trust Beth to be able to put stuff out of that kind of quality.

Nothing against Amercia but it would be nice to see a sandbox RPG with a bit more of a British slant.

Beth really needs competition to end this cycle of medicrity they've got into.

I had a guy tell me today to stop complaining and buy and xbox, a youtube comment from like a month back or something I dunno, at least a few weeks old.

I have already bought the PC version though I just didn't wanna have to do that cause my PC isn't great.

I found the suggestion a bit ridiculous though. To spend several hundred dollars, between 280-400 dollars depending on what kind of 360 to buy so that you could play a $20 DLC that's meant to give you 20 hours of gameplay?

If you want other exclusives and stuff that's fine, but if you want it purely for dawnguard?

I chalked it up to trolling. Only rich people can spend several hundred dollars so that they can use a 20 dollar product lol.

The sad part is that Hearthfire might actually be MORE difficult to get running on the PS3 than Dawnguard if the save file-size is an issue with performance as Hearthfire will have a TON more complexity to save than Dawnguard.

Which irks me to no end as, quite honestly, I'm more interested in Hearthfire than Dawnguard. Only reason I want Dawnguard is so I finally have another Dwemer dungeon to re-run that's NOT one of the only 4 ones that respawn from the original game.

That's a good point although the problem with dawnguard I don't think is RAM. Although, Hearthfire could spike the framerate lag incredibly depending on how it works.

make a more customizable red dead redemption with more weapons and items and release it as red dead redemption 2 and there you go xD

Do the same thing for an AC4 where you can start playing it in first person and crap and make it just like a skyrim AC hybrid and theres another xD

Ahh, don't even bring up Assassin's Creed. I can't wait for it to come out and I feel like I'm withdrawling or something a few mintues after I see a trailer or a commercial for it. :ahhh:

The sea combat I saw recently really grabbed my attention. They brought up a good point, and although it seems minor I took note of it in every sea game.

"We want to make sure the player does not randomly BECOME the boat, and remains a person ON the boat"

Lol I was seriously like, FINALLY SOMEONE REALIZED I DON'T WANT TO 'BE' THE BOAT! lol

From what ive read on here and talking to my bro hes done programming at uni, and he thinks theres not really anything wrong with it and i agree with him , if xbox can handle it then so can ps3 so why we still waiting? ram size etc isn't a problem i honestly think they maybe hyping it up.

Theres other games ive got mass effect3 dragonage 2 etc which dlc has been released on time and no problems, big games like mgs4, dragons dogma, dragonage , GT5 have no problems like bethesda has with theirs, so why cant't they sort this out? skyrim won't look right without dlc.

I'd say the issue at Bethesda is more than getting Dawnguard to work, it's getting it to work with everything else. How would you handle both Dawnguard and Hearthfire? And all upcoming DLC, especially the big ones, if Dawnguard is too much? They're not trying to put a band-aid on a gaping wound. If they did, they'd practically have to remake Dawnguard whenever they come out with a new DLC, and maybe remake the other DLC's as well.

So basically, I think there's more going on than not-enough-RAM. It's a deeper issue than that, and not as easy to fix as some of you might think.

I agree. After all, Skyrim's engine is just a refried version of Oblivion's, which in turn is a refried version of Morrowind's. Come on, Bethesda...after 11 years, I think it's already time to begin anew.

Also, the fact that we have to PRAY (instead of being happy) for every new patch release, hoping that it doesn't introduce more new bugs is just pathetic. Or plain hilarious. Don't know which of both.

Guys,

I'm trying to get a message to the developers of the game. It involves a solution to the problem:

http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1408940-possible-solution-to-dawnguardps3-problem/

This solution has worked wonders with Fallout, making the gaming perform near-miraculously on sub-par PCs. If the problem with Dawnguard has anything to do with save file size, or low ram in the PS3, this could very well be a solution.

If the developers are aware of this possibility, and how well it has worked for the PC, good. But it would be great to hear them, or someone else tell us this.

Is there some other way that I can convey this message to the developers?

I'm sure that you couldn't, and I'm sure they won't listen if you could.

That solution was never added by Beth itself even though it supposedly worked so well when it was done second hand, so just telling them again I don't think will do a thing.

LOL. That's epic thievery by Prima. They already have an original Skyrim guide, now they release this "expanded" edition. Then they'll release a Game of the Year edition guide later.

I know some people don't believe what comes out of pete hines is mouth sometimes but this time I do.. Now if you have been following his tweets on DG.. He says that dawnguard works on the ps3 fine as it is then goes on to say about peoples huge save files which is the problem. So by the looks of things they have asked sony to come in to help with these save files on how to reduce them ect. I don't believe there's anything wrong with DG at all apart from it will add mass mb to current high mb save files which is probably making the bad performance for some people and not others like pete stated. I belive as soon as sony if/can help with those save files then ps3 will see dlc.

I bet Bethesda already tried to release a crappy version of Dawnguard. Sony refused, and stepped in to make sure they actually get it working. Sony doesn't want Bethesda to cause their PS3 owners to be upset with their choice of console, and hopefully Sony will make sure that the future DLC will be released in playable condition. Sony actually cares about their fan-base, and Bethesda is claiming to as well now that they have Sony breathing down their neck.

You know, I've been thinking this same thing. Bethesda is making the PS3 look inferior, and I would be that Sony doesn't like that at all! Yeah, chalk one up for Microsoft when you're screwing up the PS3 players.

In my personal opinion.....

I think DG is 97% ready to go. I think they are just having some save issues....which they thought should be an easy fix, but it isnt. They are so confused by this that sony is coming to help them...so they can finally release it. I hope this is the case. I really don't believe they are going to cancel DG for ps3. That would be stupid. That would not be good business. That would be a LOT of angry tweets! lol

Wow, their plan is working after all!
