Still think Destruction is balanced VS. Archery 1-handed Mel

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 6:35 am

you only need one damage skill as melee or bow.

destro mage shouldn't "need" conjuration to be as good.

Warriors shouldn't need armour to survive hits then either.

Please, use your brain.

So after watching these videos, I am convinced that this game is utterly broken when it comes to balance.

Melee is way stronger than magic could ever be. It's just the fact that Enchanting, Blacksmithing, and Alchemy are CATERED for Melee types it's not even funny.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tOSw36zv7YI

Sneak is also horribly broken.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKP26gbQ7II

Enjoy the game breakingness.

Haters gonna hate.

Go back to WoW, or Call of Duty. You sound like one of "those" guys.

And you'll still play the game until the cd melts. Because that's how your type works.

Are you serious ?
You actually compared destruction to people who are using a exploit ingame to obtain crazy stat's , and their justification of why they are cheating is 'because its in the game'.
Beside, cry me a river.. one word: oblivion

Ok bro you have totally gone off track, we are talking about the dmg differences between Melee and Destruction.

Even if you use all the schools of magic you're still no where close to being as powerful as a melee class.

I think magic is balanced. I leveled on master with magic and thought it was appropriate, but melee is way overpowered.

I'm going to make a mod that nerfs enchanting, that should take care of the problem.

This has nothing to do with being single player or mmorpg, people play RPG's for the growth of their character and progression of the story, when 2 skills combined make your character a god and your not even half way done with the story don't you think that something is wrong? I am amazed at how freaking carebear the gamer community is now. They want everything easy.

2 + 2 =/= what ever you want it to be

Stop straw manning dude.

If you guys don't care, as you incessantly keep repeating, why do you keep posting in these threads?

Quite frankly, destruction doesn't hold its own as a skill.
You might say that Impact 'balances' destruction, but hitting a generic enemy with expert dual casts should not require you to stunlock him in place, and blast him 30 times before he dies.

Once you reach a high enough level, some enemies (read: enemies with low armor and no magic resistance) are more susceptible to a mage punching them out than using master level destruction spells.
It does not matter that the mage could summon a dremora that would murder the enemies in less than 10 seconds.

The problem is not destruction being underpowered compared to melee. its that the game is not balanced at all. If you play on the hardest level, mobs are able to one shot melee users. So without some kind of smithing improvement, its nearly impossible to play a melee oriented Archtype. The simple fix is to add + magic damage as an enchantment, then remove the fortify enchanting potions from alchemy, and remove the fortify smithing enchant from the enchanting tree. At this point the game could have been balanced because the developer has baselines to work with at the upper limit. Instead they took a cheesy way to balance the game, by leaving in loopholes and borderline exploiting to create god like archtype.

the issue is purely gamesas not bothering to balance the game at all, and i doubt they will fix it. it will have to come down to modders to fix it.

Anyway for people who say who gives a [censored], a lot of people give a [censored]. You don't give a [censored]? than shut up and get out why are you even posting if you don't care. Let the people who actually care about fixing the game be and you enjoy the game being broken.

We care that people (you and the OP in particular) think that this game needs to be balanced like its a MMORPG or RTS. I DON'T WANT SKYRIM TO BE BALANCED. Its okay in single player open world games that certain builds will be more powerful then others, I invested in lockpicking quite a bit early-on for more gold more access to areas, this makes the game more difficult but its what I wanted to do. If you want to one shot dragons with mages turn the difficulty down. If that's not enough immersion for you I suggest playing SC2 or WOW they are balanced to allow you to compete with another online player by 1v1 or PVP.

"If you guys don't care, as you incessantly keep repeating, why do you keep posting in these threads?"

Please see above

EDIT: I mean seriously what if I started complaining that my dual unarmed attacks weren't as powerful because that's the way I want to play. Why can't unarmed be as strong as magic?

Are you telling me you can't just NOT invest in enchanting and smithing perks? You need to create a mod that forces your hand?

WOW, dude - do you also have trouble not eating all the food in your fridge until your stomache bursts and pours acids throughout your insides like a dog with a too full food dish?

I think what he is trying to say is that there is no way to increase magic power i.e. no skills. There are skills (such as armour smithing and enchanting) which can aid in boosting the attack power for warriors. Even enchanting does not offer a magic attack power boost.

I mean I used restoration magic as a mage to defend me like warriors use armour to defend them. But do we have any skills, any way, to increase our base damage output for our spells? (no matter what school of magic they are in). Nope.

Also, stop insulting other forum users.

..Yeah. Some of these people are forgetting this is a single player game and not an MMORPG..

I know this is a single player game, but players shouldn't have to deliberately avoid doing powerful things in order for the game to remain interesting.

Many people have said it really well already, but I'll try again. We find building our characters and making them powerful an enjoyable process. It is irritating when the only option is an over-easy gameplay experience, or being forced to make character development choices that are bad purely in order to not end up being too powerful.

It's especially silly that people are complaining about us complaining. Improving game play balance and removing these over powered features won't hinder anyone else's enjoyment of the game. I don't see why anyone here would mind playing a balanced game. It may not be important to you, but why hate on other people who do care about it?

it's good i'm not BREAKING the game by using enchanting or smithing.
it's sad how powerful that guy was w/ insane BS/enchanting :(
my guy is also stealthy but he'll never get x15 dmg since i use a 2h for stealth, only gives me x2...

Okay heres a heads up. If you want the game to be DIFFICULT. Then DO NOT apply terribly powerful buffs to your weapons via the enchant/blacksmithing system. You are mad, because you can use ther perks designed to make your more powerful, to become more powerful? I don't see why there is this huge issue where people are saying magic svcks. I use it just fine on my 'paladin' character and I find it fun. Sure it could be more powerful but honestly it isn't as useless as people seem to think it is.

People seem to be hating on either
A: The fact Magic CANNOT one-shot every enemy in the game like melee and stealth can
B: The fact that melee and stealth CAN one shot enemies in the first place.

Either way I don't see how this effects anything. It isn't like your competing with other players here, so why should it matter if one method is far more effective than another? If you wanted the game to be more difficult as a melee class, then stop using overpowered enchants on everything you pick up. If you want it to be easier as a magic class then tune down the difficulty a bit.

Yeah dude it happens all the time. Good thing I have medicaid because I'm handicapped from acid damage to my torso.

I like enchanting/smithing/alchemy (I have them all at 100) and like using every possible resource I have to overcome horrendous odds. I can do whatever I want with Skyrim without some monkey trying to push me into his box. If I want to change the game to stop me from one shotting everyone, that's what I'll do.

So from what I understand is you guys are just selfish, way I look at things. I want to go through the game feeling like I am achieving something, magic lacks that. In a game where the major selling points in play what you want to play, there should be no builds that are more powerful than the other. Especially when you compare destruction to melee, usually when it comes to magic users and melee users. Magic has the power while melee has the survivability, in Skyrim going pure destruction you do subpar dmg and you have no survivability, Melee gets high survivability and Insane dmg.

Lemme ask you one question do you play a mage or a warrior/rogue.

Balanced doesn't mean that every single thing under the sun is equally effective! Balanced means that there aren't options which are just light years ahead of everything.

Would you like a spell called "Kill everything" which cost 1 magicka automatically killed all hostiles within a 3 km radius that would only be available to characters with 100 destruction?

Ok, I agree that they should balance magic, stealth and melee but some of this stuff is just way overboard. Bethesda can't stop you from exploiting if you're heavily concentrated on "roll-playing" rather than role-playing, I mean seriously, this stuff with potion stacking with enchanting and smithing is just ridiculous.

If people want to grind passive skill to get OP then FINE.
But afterward, for the love of god, dont come in crying that X is OP. No one forced you to take this path.

I've been playing a BALANCED lvl 22 Thief on Master with following stats atm: 50ish in sneak, lockpick, pickpocket, 30ish in blacksmith/enchant/alchemy, 40 in one-hand/archery and 35 in light armor.
And I can assure you that my experience is amazingly balanced, challenging and fun.

The people crying about BALANCE and OP issues are certainly [censored] and don't know how to play a sandbox where you do WHAT you want and become WHAT you want.

Without knowing what was OP or not, I had made a dual wielding heavy armor character. I dabbled with Smithy and realized it really made a big difference. I hit level 33 and deleted my character. I felt like I was cheating.

It's all self preference.

I'm playing a mage with a heavy shield now and I love it.

*edit* That is what makes these games so great. You can be SUPER powerful and destroy everything easily, or you can be a weak character that has to spend a lot of time to accomplish something.

Not sure about the first, but I know for certain you can do the last.

Apparently our most powerful spells for magic damage are not that effective against high level enemies. I have read the magic list, and there are a lot of powerful spells, but not many top grade ones that do enough damage as seen ingame.

As for the potions, yeah, its possible. But they are only temporary effects. Mages will have to keep making, finding ingredients, it is a bit of a chore for some players. While warriors don't need potions to be over powered, we need potions to keep our damage output from being.... basically.... useless.

It is a slight balance issue here although I am not too bothered what happens either way. If beth does not fix it, mods will.
