The coolest thing that's happened to me so far was a death, mine, but still awesome. I have the game on XBox, so going back to an unpatched version is as simple as clearing cache, which I did to utilize the Oghma Infinium/bookshelf glitch. I don't use glitches on "real playthroughs", but hearing about it, I wanted to see what level 81 was like and try out various final full perk assignment plans to see what I liked.
One thing that happened was that all dragons were ancient dragons. Not sure if this is unique to them (they are rather big), but I was attacked on the plains in a forest and fighting one. I had the game set up at my cousins house over my break at Christmas and him and another friend were watching me play. I had driven it to the ground and was using one of those rock mounds you see around giant camps (fat stalagmite looking things a bit taller than you and almost as wide) as cover. I would peg it with a couple shots from my ebony bow then sidestep behind the pillar as it breathed at me, taking cover. Then I would sidestep out the other way and hit it again.
My health was not completely down but apparently low enough for it to initiate a finishing move, and it had been scrabbling forward towards the pillar in that walk they do when grounded. Suddenly, out of nowhere, the view switches to third person and it shows the dragon literally snake its long neck up and over the top of the pillar to bite me in half! It was so unexpected we all three jumped. I haven't had a video game truly "scare" me since the first time I saw the licker in Resident Evil 2 leap into the police station.
It's like the dragon got tired of me hopping back and forth behind cover and suddenly remembered, "Hey, I'm three stories tall! I don't have to take this sh|t." My cousin, who doesn't play these type of games, looked at me and said, "I don't know much about Skyrim, but it looks like that dragon just had you for lunch dude." My friend was like, "Well you did have a pretty pathetic cover."
