i would imagine so as it is solid state...

@Viggy... nice solution! Can you check what drive your save games are being saved to? If they are going to your USB drive, can you check that the save game can be copied to your HD. Thanks :)

I didn't even think of the actual game saves... should that matter?

most of the time, no... but i remember not being able to transfer my fable 2 save (please forgive me, lol) to my USB drive. When (dare i say, if) Bethesda fix the HD problem, i would like to be able to install the game to the HD and transfer my save games

My save game is still on my HDD. When the game has loaded you just have to choose the HDD after you choose "continue" if that's where your save is still. Haven't had any issues there.

By the sound of this, it could really mean the 'clearing cache' is the answer. I don't think alot of people ever do that anyway, i sometimes do it. Especially when i was busy with Fallout 3, but not for many other games.

what does clearing cache mean ?

We're looking into it. Something to clear up is this has nothing to do with whether you install to the hard drive or not.

I heard its from the in-game menus. When you pull up the menu and then close it everything gets low res.

Well, after you click continue there is no selection at all until you select one. If I recall correctly though I think the HDD is highlighted by default if that's what you mean.

what does clearing cache mean ?

Your cache is were small pieces of info are stored when your playing the game. Over time it can get cluttered and cause problems. To clear it (and this is from memory) you need to go to system settings, memoy, then press "Y" on your hdd, you should see the option to clear your cache.

I refuse to believe this. Something that obvious would have been found in testing, and also would've been reported by all of the game reviewers.

If it really is the case, I'm going to lose faith in humanity.

To be honest as frequently as this issue is showing up I'd have to say this should have been spotted in testing full stop.

I second that, for a bug to be that obvious yet remain unfixed before it went golden would be extremely embarrassing for the company at the very least. Such an obvious bug would also show a serious hole in Bethesda's quality control/testing procedures.

But back on point, if this bug really isn't dependent on playing from HDD/disc, then maybe it is contingent on the model or generation of the actual xbox. It would be interesting to hear if for every texture bug complaint the poster disclosed the generation/model of their xbox, and whether or not it has experienced the red ring of death.

TBH I really wouldn't be suprised if this was an Xbox360 issue... The thing is so old, Microsoft knows it's old... *sigh* If only I could afford a monster PC =/
I hope it can be fixed... =(

Yes, and it seems some people are experiencing it for different reasons, and some people are fixing the problem with different solutions. The whole thing is a huge cluster[censored].

I was able to format my external harddrive and it worked fine. Checked it after and all the directories are there.

I was just wondering if anyone thought of this. I was thinking about the texture problem we all have been having and how could Bethesda not seen it before now, I mean they have tested the game... I hope they did...

Anyway what if it’s not the HDD that is the problem, but the patch 1.1 this would explain why Bethesda have not seen this up to now and why some people have no problem while others do.

"The Reality of the Situation.
11/08/2011 - Anonymous
I work for one of the largest publishers in world, and they treat the development of games as a machine (which I believe is representative of many testing environments). The issue with these policies is that it systematically breeds a disdain for actually assuring (or ensuring) quality.

In the last few months of testing, 95% of bugs will be marked WNF (“Will Not Fix”). The idea is that fixing a bug could cause a new bug, and if the bug is not high severity, it’s not worth the risk. So if the project is running longer than planned, most low-severity bugs (and some mid-severity bugs) get ignored. Of course, the project always runs longer than planned, because the producer’s goal is to cram every game into a one year development cycle, even if it really should have been a two or three year game.

What makes matters worse is that many of the producers running things used to be QA Testers. These are the ones who stuck with it for years. Usually they have an easy-to-get-along with personality, a good record of being on time, a decent record with bugs and a tendency to not complain. These are the guys who took the eventual QA mantra, “Ship it!” to heart.

“Ship it!,” by the way, means “[censored] it.” It’s the realization that after enough trials and tribulations, you just don’t care about the quality of the game anymore because the game NEEDS to get out the door (or so says the folks upstairs).

Testers are still judged by their bug counts (though some leads will try to say otherwise to their testers), even when the bugs won’t be fixed. So the grunts are still expected to cover QA’s collective ass by entering everything they find, presumably to convince the higher-ups that we’re actually working. The result is a sense that your job… your high-overtime job, and therefore your life… has no purpose. It’s just you and the guy next to you, yelling at screens, finding and entering bugs that won’t be fixed, in a soul-crushing room the color of bile and [censored], trying to earn $9.50/hr. In Los Angeles, where $9.50 might buy you lunch, and a month’s worth of pay might cover your rent, if your parents are very generous in what they charge you."
