Texture Loading Issues

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 11:51 am

Installing the Game on USB will not help.
The textures are not loading at all.

Bethesda have confirmed its not to do with the HDD, despite the evidence from people.

see attached thread.

Not installed on the Hard drive? just disc?

I have the issue with it installed on to the hard drive. I didn't have the issue when I compared it to running it from disc. I haven't studied in depth but I did take some pics of a couple of places and the textures were there when running it from disc but not from the HDD. Haven't got very far, still in the first village but it's something I immediately noticed.

I am now installing it on to a USB flash memory to see what happens because some people have said the issue isn't there when running it from a USB flash memory. We shall see.

Well I just got to Windhelm and there are some texture issues that remain in ultra low, it is wide spread. It is very pronounced at Windhelm. Perhaps it is suppose to look like this, IDK. Surely the game is not a mixture of both ultra low and low res. textures. I can't wait to play on PC. I have both, this one is technically my nephews but he isn't here today. I am playing off the disc, not installed.

Thats what i said and tested it myself

Its selfexplaining anyway. If the textures not loading at all, it has nothing to do with Installing the game on HDD or USB.

Yeah, thanks for sharing mate, it's pretty conclusive installing to HDD is causing this, hope everyone reads this and stops with the threads now, and after tomorrow when it is released worldwide, i am sure Bethesda will fix this.

I am playing off the disc and just arrived at Windhelm, lot's of ultra low res. it's a mixture. The water reflections you can actually see the pixelated blocks. Is it suppose to be like this? The doors and everything looks really low. It can't be this bad.

Bethesda employee himself said that issue is not connected to HDD.

Of course it's not supposed to be like that.

Ugh, this is so confusing. First, i hear the HDD install bug is real, then i hear if you clear your cache, it helps. Then i hear it doesn't. After that i hear USB installs help, then that gets rejected. Now Bethesda has been quoted as saying the bug has nothing to do with the install, yet i see a bunch of forum-goers say otherwise... maybe everyone should just run from disc, get a feel for the look, install the game, test it, and if the textures look bad, uninstall and play from disc? that's prolly what i'll do. here's to hoping this gets addressed sooner rather than later.

OK, well, this is a strange one. I was sceptical about this but it works for me, and for some others that mentioned it at the GameFAQs forum. I had the texture issue when I was playing it from the HDD. I didn't have it when running it from disc, well, I thought I didn't.

Literally just bought an 8gb USB flash drive to try it. Just installed it to the flash drive and low and behold, the texture issue has seemingly gone. The characters hands actually have the textures they're supposed to on them now. From the HDD, they didn't. Stangely, the hand textures also seemed missing when running from disc. Some furniture textures though, they weren't there when running it from the HDD but they were there when running it from disc.

Now, running it from the USB flash drive, all the textures that should be there appear to be there. Yeah, strange one this.

If you have a spare flash drive I highly recommend trying it. I can't guarantee this will work for everybody as I honestly don't know but it has certainly appeared to work for me and some others.

Another note - Whether installing the game to a USB flash drive will affect how the game runs in other ways I don't know. Time will tell.

Hmm, I do have a USB flash drive I could use. I'm still going to start by running it from the disc to see what happens.

This is starting to get really confusing, reports saying disc works fine, Gstaff saying it's not related to the HDD and others like this saying that an external will solves things.

Yeah, this certainly is confusing. Like I say though, I had the texture issue on some furniture in a house at the first village when I played it from the HDD. I didn't have the issue when I played it from disc. But then I noticed that I did have the issue where the textures on your hands were concerned when playing from both the disc and HDD. Now though, I have none of the issues with it installed to a USB flash drive.

This will do for now as I'm happy to play it like this now with this issue gone (at this moment in time anyway). Still, the sooner a proper fix comes the better. I'd still rather play it from the HDD. If the issue reappears I'll say so.

Thanks for the info Viggy, i got my external HDD all setup anyways so I'll just go ahead and give that a try first and hope for the best.

I really hope they fix this ASAP. :nope:

BTW if it does have something to do with clearing the cache, can someone tell me how to do it?

Thank you for the info. I have a USB stick that'll do nicely.

If you guys don't mind, could someone tell me the actual procedure of copying the game to a USB flash drive and playing it from there?

Really hope Bethesda can get to the root of this. Seems like a lot of people are running into this on 360.

OK, I wasn't going to believe it until I saw the gametrailers review, they had it bad, they even gave the game a low score because of it, for the love of god bethesda fix it, and no its not because people pirated as you said in your twitter, if reviewers are getting it too then its definetly not because of that.

once you format your flash drive it acts like a memory card or hdd... when you install you'll be presented with a choice of where to install
