Two Dawnguard Reviews (Kotaku, IGN)

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 12:41 pm

I now officially don't give a hoot about ANY review about Dawnguard, if people are going to post stupid crap like this then I don't even want to hear what these people have to say. I don't care that it was a positive review either. If you are into Twilight, what makes you think you'd be into Dawnguard? Dawnguard puts Twilight to shame.

twilight is terrible, it puts a bad name on werewolves and vampires.

...and books, and films. I was dragged to a film, hated it (never got taken back as I used my usual get out trick of guessing every single obvious plot point and loudly going "He's gonna take his shirt offfffff..... NOW" *guy on screen removes shirt, cinema SQUEEEEEs, biels facepalms*). Then I was told to read a book, that would change my mind. I'll put it this way, up until that point I thought the film was the worst thing I'd ever seen in my life. The book opened my eyes to a whole new realm of lame.

2 queations. One does it have choices and consequences? 2 does each faction have seperate stories or are they copy and paste of each other like the civil war quests? I am wondering because I wanna know of there is any replay value even if I chose one side twice.

From IGN review....
Dawnguard is neither as meaty nor as cohesive as Shivering Isles, its Oblivion expansion pack counterpart,

I do wish that people would stop comparing Dawnguard to Shivering Isles.

Shivering Isles was a full EXPANSION
Dawnguard is a DLC

Dawnguard was never marketed as a full expansion, so why people expect as much content as Shivering Isles is beyond me.

Im not going to argue this again, this dlc has a very mixed reaction, it's all about opinion.

The endings are differnt, in the end of the dawnguard MQ you meet Isran back at HQ were he thanks you and Serana for helping stop Harkon, the Vampire quest line ends differently.

Nope , I am very serious.
I had NO bugs with Vanilla Skyrim , I enjoy every minute of it.
Now that the DLC showed up , it was AMAZING , I believe I am going to enjoy it no less.

I already admitted that the quest before the ending is the same.

Yes. Exactly. Which is why my review was mixed as well. And it is just MY opinion. But he was asking for OUR opinions so I gave him mine. We don't all have to agree :]

It was marketed in such a way that people would believe it was an actual expansion and buy it.

Beth kept talking about making DLC around Shivering Isles quality. So it's natural to compare the two. Plus, they are almost the same price,

Oh my god your outrage!

So let me follow your logic here....somebody said something you think is stupid, therefore you're going to stop reading everything.

How is 1. yes?

You get a single choice:

Spoiler
To join the Volkihar or to join Dawnguard. And that choice is rendered pointless because a) Dawnguard can be vampires and  you kill Harkon with no choice of saving the sun and being a hero. And guess what happens when you kill Harkon on the Volkihar side? Nothing! Some of the NPCs comment once about it but nothing at all changes. The two underlings who sent their pets to kill you so they could get favor? They don't react, they act as if almost nothing happened.

What's that, Kotaku? You say the gameplay in Dawnguard resembles that of Skyrim? How shocking...

Surely we ought to condemn this DLC on that basis.
POSSIBLE SPOILERS.

It comes off as weird, but I get what they're saying. At every E3 interview and stage demo I saw, Bethesda stressed trying to seamlessly integrate Dawnguard into Skyrim. I think Bethesda went a little overboard with this. To me, Dawnguard was so seamlessly integrated that it didn't really seem like an expansion. It felt more like a huge version of Oblivion's Fighter's Stronghold DLC. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it. But for 20 bucks I was expecting way more than two new forts, a few new features, and a few new sets of weapons and armors. And on a totally unrelated note, I'm super pissed vamps can't use the face changer deal.

I've noticed a pattern here. When New Vegas's dlcs came out a good number of people prefered the Fallout 3 dlc. Now that Dawnguard is out a lot of people seem to like the older games expansions better...is there a trend of hating the new? I've noticed this in Final Fantasy as well

I hate final fantasy in general, Overated, I cant move for 2 seconds without some fan girl telling how they "cried" during Aeriths death, I found it funny.

I love the series but I hate how so many people rage on the most recent games because their not like the old ones. Each game is supposed to be different not like the old ones. I have the same feeling with Skyrim and Oblivion. I hate Oblivion's clunky menu but I love how I can equip both a sword and a shield and still use my magic unlike skyrim.
