Anyone else prefer Fallout 3 to New Vegas

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 7:26 pm

Don't have the time to read the whole thread, but my guess is that the people who prefer F3 to FNV are the people who started on F3.

If you have played 1 and 2 then most likely you'll prefer FNV because the rpg gameplay as well as writing for the game are similar in terms of depth.

I'm still not finished but I prefer NV over FO3 because it makes more sense: factions, settlements, storywise, voice cast, etc.

And I'm really happy about the element of surprise: thieves luring me into ambushes for example. In FO3 I knew after a couple of hours who my adversaries were and what was expected of me so it became a little boring. I'll admit FO3 is a great sandbox game but I rather prefer having a lot of STUFF to do and interesting STUFF that surprises me, instead of finding heaps of meaningless random STUFF without a challenge, other than just walking around and collecting things to decorate my house.

*Edit* Funny thing is: I modded the hell out of FO3 and strangely enough left NV virtually untouched, except for some small glitches/bugs cures. :P

Been loving New Vegas as much as FO3, both great games !

A-FEKIN-MEN!!!!

FO3 was incredible and I will replay it over and over and over again but that doesn't detract from how great NV is! The biggest problems are technical and while that may be tear-out-your-eyes annoying it isn't game breaking permanently. I think that most people who are complaining about NV are those who didn't play the original games. I know that not all of the detractors are in that boat but it seems like the majority. What those who haven't played FO1 or 2 should try and remember is that NV is actually a sequel to the those game while FO3 was a totally stand alone product. Ideally one would have played the first two and then NV in order to make the game "episodic". I have mentioned it before but I think that Bethesda is going to be "splitting" the franchise into east and west coast storylines, with Obsidian helming the west coast and Bethesda forging new territory in the east. I think they will collaborate on world history and design and game engine and what-not but the individual stories I think will be pure to their teams. The two story arcs have no need to ever cross paths this way. Heck they could even form a third team eventually to lead the way across the oceans to wastelands unseen (can anyone say "vault under Ayers Rock" or "outback wasteland").

All that being said, I am very anxious for the big patch to be released. I play on PS3 and there is a glitch (I don't know if it is unique to PS3 or not) where VATS wont always activate. This is actually my biggest peeve about the game thus far. I mean I have indeed seen the gamut of bad glitches already but I can deal. Being chased down by 3 zigzagging Cazadores (Means Huntsmen...hmmm...I always thought it ment Buck or Deer. Darn Tequila lied to me) and having VATS just refuse to engage is INFURIATING. Oh yeah and while we are on the subject...CAZADORES...SERIOUSLY? Fekin-A I hate those things! Deathclaws...full grown ones (but not the Alphas or the Queens or whatever you call the elite/leaders) go down with one headshot from a Riot Shotgun...but the freakin wasp-monster-abomination-sinagainstnature-things dodge around so quick that I have to run backwards and unload 5 or 6 shots as fast as I can to kill even ONE.

I guess in the end what I really mean is that FO3 is/was great! I love that game! It may very well have played a part in the saving of my marriage (not a joke)! I also love NV...a lot! Like so much I try not to let my FO3 disk see me playing NV...I feel like I am cheating on it. Plus... doesn't it seem like if FO3 was your girlfriend it would be a seriously, dangerously, crazy one. Like dating a completely awesome girl only to find out she was the youngest daughter of Sunny Corleone and Aileen Wuornos, and she may not LOOK like mom but do you really wanna find our how much she inherited?. That's FO3! While NV is the love child of Tommy DeVito and Janis Joplin...not quite as pretty, but close...and still feked up crazy! Both are too metal to exist in real life but for totally different reasons!

I will admit New Vegas has a lot of features that are better like faster, smoother gameplay and increased textures, better weapons etc. However, i find myself in a similar position. I don't know weather its because I played it hours on end when i got it, or weather Fallout 3's better so that I played it for hours more.

Overall, i think you must just have them both lol!

I just had a disturbing thought...It may very well be that Nathan Explosion donated some "effort" to the creation these beauties. Yep... that may be it. Nathan Explosion and Lita Ford had two girls. Beware. The Great Kat is their godmother...Joan Jett taught them to drive...and Nancy Wilson helped them pick out their prom dresses.

the only reason fo3 is better in any way...is cause it was first lol. you must be overlooking the bad stuff about fo3 cause it was all just pew pew yea.. killed my 100000000 raider.......

More like 100000000th RIOT of raiders, robots, yao guai, death claws, feral dogs, gouls, rad scorpions, Talon Mercs & Enclave closing in from all sides.

Sometimes it was so ridiculous I felt like I was playing Saints Row 2 with a five star wanted/notoriety level (Not knocking Saints Row. Last time I checked, it wasn't supposed to be immersive). Adding to the ridiculousness was that you could dispatch these horde's without using a stimpak:

::pew pew dart gun to the leg of Death claw, go into the invulnerable VATS mode to chuck a quick pulse grenade at the robot, spin 360 degress chucking 3 (of my 19) Nuka Grenades, pew pew pew switch to Harkness' Plasma Rifle on steriods to reduce most of what's left to goo. Skip looting because I already have 150 K caps and nothing to spend them on::

This is the worst place to ask this question, It is full of mainly old school fallout fans. So you are going to get a very biased opinion.

Sadly they do not realize that they make up of probably about 2% of the people that brought fallout 3 and NV and if you dare you disagree with SOME of them then you are a illiterate fool who likes half arsed writing.

also prefer FO3> NV .... NV just got so boring (for me) after the first playthrough. FONV is just like other game i buy, or like women: Once i'm finished i don't want anything to do with it anymore.

NV made a couple of good improvements and was fun while it lasted ... FO3 really made me want to keep playing it.

I think F3 will always have the edge simply by virtue of it coming first. As good as New Vegas is, its difficult to recapture that emerging from that Vault feeling, or using VATS for the first time, getting used to your Pip-Boy, finding your first really decent weapon, finding Dogmeat etc...

Generally, I like the new features of New Vegas - hardcoe mode, factions, damage threshold, companion wheel, extensive character dialogue and backstories, reputation etc. If Fallout 4 is a combination of the best of both games, then it'll be amazing. :tops:

If someone were to give me a choice between only having one or the other, Fallout:3 or Fallout:NV, I could not choose. There are many things I like and dislike in each. They are both very good games. I'm just very happy I am fortunate to be able to enjoy them both and hope the future ones are just as good. The very thought that every couple of years I could have one from Bethesda Studios alternating with one from Obsidian just makes me happy all over. It's like the best of two worlds that collide.

Wouldn't it be nice after a few more games for the East and West to meet in the middle and be built by both companies?

It would be great if both worked together but I think it's very obvious that beth are doing what activision are doing with COD.

they are using them as a filler to keep people interested in fallout while they make fallout 4 then 5 etc.

Eeeewww...not really, no. I can't even imagine the talks on who does what there..."Okay, do we want the Brotherhood of Steel or Fallout 3's Brotherhood of the Carebear? Nightkin or Behemoths? DR and godmode characters or DT and limited skill points demanding specialization? Challenging final battle, or final 'follow the unstoppable robot' passive ending?"

I'll happily stick with the current "alternating" mode and be quite happy, tyvm.

Less meat, more filler please.

Eh, I wouldn't use the word "filler," though, because Obsidian's game is actually...you know...really good outside of bugs. I'm not a huge CoD fan to begin with (I enjoyed Bad Company 2 a lot more than CoD4, for example), but Treyarch's games are pretty "meh." NV actually adds a really detailed and worthwhile installment to the series. I like both games, but if I were going to call one of them "filler" or a "spinoff" I'd have to say FO3 fits that bill more than NV when you look at the Fallout series as a whole. Not bashing FO3 there, just saying that NV is far from the type of filler Treyarch's games are.

All RPG game series stop after 5 games.

Unless your Final Gaynasty, or DragonQuest, or Mario, or Shin Migame Tensei, or...

What I was getting at was that "RPG" has nothing to do with market-forces. There is zero possibility that the industry will stop making them while they are making money...and the chances that the fanbase will randomly and collectively go "I am just not interested at all anymore." are similarly low. To end the series they would have to approve and release something even worse than FO:BOS.
