Dawnguard and Future DLC Discussion - Thread #30

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 1:52 pm

Don't like the yampire lord thing, simply because it's incredible uncreative.... I have the feeling that Betheseda without Michael Kirkbridge only can do generic fantasy and nothing special.

Why not Vohikars, why not do an other interpretation of a vampire, something more related do nordic mythology and of course they should crush with their hands through the ice...

But why do something like this vampirelord, which is seen a hundred times before, why so uncreative Betheseda, don't want to create a unique world?

Name me 100 sources, and I'll willingly convert my point of view to yours.

My only source for the Vamp Lord (Exactly the same) is the 2nd Underworld movie where the OG Vamp turns into it whenever he pleases

What are you talking about? Where have you seen this vampire lord a hundred times already? I don't think I have seen any other game that has them.

There was also something similar in that [censored] Van Helsing movie. Kids just like the mutated bat creature look nowadays I reckon...

Dracula had the same look in the movie that came out in the 1990's, the one where Gary Oldman played Dracula. http://tiffanyvalentine.files.wordpress.com/2011/11/bram-stokers-dracula-9.jpg. Google Dracula bat form, and you will see.

Okay, new info about Dawnguard. I've found a lot of new animation entries from DLC in patch 1.6. Key features:
  • Animations of crossbows now moved to folder DLC01.
  • Mounted combat with crossbows.
  • At least one type of crossbows will be unique with unique animation - Dwarven.
  • Child Crying.
  • New dialogue gestures:
    Defensive Hand;
    Hand on Chin;
    Welcome Hand.
  • Coffin Puzzle.
  • Reading of the Elder Scroll.
  • Animation from the trailer of Dawnguard.
  • Scraping tree bark.
  • Transformation in a Vampire Lord!
  • Vampire Lord's kill moves.
  • "Serana holds Vyrthur". Of course Serana and Vyrthur are in-game NPC's (or something like that), but I have not found any mentions of these names in TES Lore.
  • Snow Elf Prince ascension burning.
  • Pour water in a way shrine.
  • Scooping water in a way shrine.
If you know Russian language, you can read Russian translation of the list above on my site - http://www.elderscrolls.net/news/index.php/weblog/dawnguard-16/

Yeah, hated that movie too. Book was good though.
Really? I liked the movie because Gary Oldman does an amazing Dracula. But the book was great, a lot better than the movie, but I saw the movie and then had to read the book in class and that made reading it fun because I could picture the characters from the movie while I read the book.
Also does anyone remember Doctor Morbius from Spider-Man?
Yes I do, he had that same bat looking face, but he didn't have wings if I remember correctly.

In the cartoon Blade is hunting him and a device Morbius creates turns him into the full-bat thing

Oh yeah, I forgot about that! I have that episode somewhere. He looked more like the Man-Bat though from the old Batman cartoon.

Then he still needs to crap out 99 more sources. Otherwise his argument about Bethesda being "uncreative" is invalid.

What for a strange argumentation. A hundred times is a common saying, of coures i have not seen it a hundred times. I haven't even seen Orcs a hundred time in other games or films. But that doesn't make them something new. And so with this Vampire lord. I actually see it in other universes, an it is simply relative common.
And the point is, in TES there are others vampire mentioned in the lore, like the Vohikar who are something special, why not making some awesome nordic Frost Vampires? Why taking a relativ common thing that is never mentioned in TES but is already see exact in this way for example in Van Helsing.

I don't flaming, I simply don't understand this descision by Betheseda, I call this vampire lord uncreative - simply my opinion.

Other thing, a dwemer crossbow - really want that.

I have one advice. Stop playing RPG's... or just stop roleplaying.

Main Quest and Civil War Quest are linked together and serve as the main storyline, which EVERY GAME HAS. What a surprise...
Companions. Don't join them. Really, it's that easy and if you do, you can either refuse to become a werewolf or cure youself later, it's easy and simple.
You don't get it. We had to be dragonborn in the main quest. There is no way around it. So people so stop complaining IF we are forced to play as vampires. Get my point now?

Don't like the yampire lord thing, simply because it's incredible uncreative.... I have the feeling that Betheseda without Michael Kirkbridge only can do generic fantasy and nothing special.

Why not Vohikars, why not do an other interpretation of a vampire, something more related do nordic mythology and of course they should crush with their hands through the ice...

Isn't Michael Kirkbridge the guy who always writes about cosmos and genetics and goes to the tiniest detail in Elder Scrolls? Did he even write anything vampire related before? I know the lore guys in the lore section see him as a god or something.

Ok so... the Vampire lord you're hating because it's been seen on one or two things, but hasn't really been done very much. One or two other sources, and you say it's "common".

But you're excited about the Crossbow? As if that's never been done before...

I don't think it looks like Dracula from Van Helsing because his wings in that were huge, he was huge in that form. The Vampire Lord looks like Marcus from Underworld: Evolution. I wouldn't mind if they made the Vampire Lord the Volkihar from the book Immortal Blood.

Keep in mind that all we have is few second video of this vampire lord. All we know is what it looks like. It could very well have additional features like the ones you're describing. We already discussed how it coild fit into lore, I don't think we should judge it simply based off what it looks like. It will likely come as a power at the end of a perk tree or the last of a set of powers. The other perks or powers will likely contain abilities like you're mentioning or other nordic vampire abilities.

Eh, the optimist in me wants to agree especially considering we don't know if they'll in fact use that snippet from the Game Jam video as the actual transformation but considering how many people seem to want it... Well, popular opinion beats out what makes sense lore-wise nine times out of ten. Should probably just be thankful vampires don't sparkle... yet.

Meh, same difference. I just think they need to remove the wings from the Vampire Lord, and make them the real Volkihar vampires, but that is just my honest opinion. If they make the Vampire Lord another power that breaks lore because last time I checked the Cyrodiilic vampires couldn't do that.

Should this Vampire Lord prove worthy of the 'honour', then I'm sure there will be a mod or two to fix the lack of sparkles...
