Probably a lot more original and unique but I get your point. "Borrowing" from other IP's serves to lower the quality of the games in general.
It seems like originality suits this game universe better, Vvardenfell had uniqueness oozing out of every orifice it had. Oblivion was a very familiar fantasy setting in every sense of it. Skyrim does have an amazing world but its not as unique as Vvardenfell.

Wouldnt be the first time elements of the Elder Scrolls series have taken "inspiration" from a popular movie franchise. Ever wonder what Oblivion would look like had Peter Jackson never made the Lord of the Rings into a movie trillogy?
The same considering that TES is one of the most unique (But still 'realistic') fantasy realms that exists. The only thing that they share with LOTR is Orc's are similiar. Both have Elves, although again TES elves are very unique. And.... Uhhhhm. That's all that pops into mind. TES has it's only very unique races, places, ideals, systems, gods, traits, cultures, and lore without going all wonky and Japanese on us. :P

These are some of the reasons I live Elder Scrolls games they are so unique in their world and their universe. It's a refreshing change from what shoved down our throats in pretty much every fantasy thing out there all the way from movies to books to games and so on. I do like the way over the top Japanese fantasy too tho.:)

The image of Dovahkiin with the glowing eyes also lend credence to the idea of the DLC being focused with vampires. All that vampire stuff in the DLC01 animation folder is pretty much confirmed, though it'll be interesting how Bethesda handles the lore counterpart. And now that there's a separate Elder Scrolls animation file... perhaps it's related to going back to the time when the Snow Elves were alive and fighting with the nords? Just sayin'.

Too bad vampires are getting kind of a bad rap these days... thanks to a certain franchise :P

I would say a few franchises are to blame for "defanging" vampires as we know them. They're either mutated superheroes or effeminate emo weirdos.

Anybody is worried that the player will be forced to become a vampire like it's forced into werebeast form in the companion quest line? (minor spoiler but, at this point, after 6+ months it shouldn't come as a suprise)

I agree I do not want to be forced into any role of any kind to enjoy the game, it should be an additional thing, something the expansion offers if you wish to play it, I do not like you are forced into a role with the companions, that was upsetting because I was hoping it was something that could happen in the wilderness like vampirism.

Regarding vampire-lords, keep this in mind: Most of the books and legends concerning vampires in Tamriel are based on folklore and half-truths. As a result, there are many things not mentioned in-game about vampires that may very well be true. Case in point: in oblivion most npcs think vampires can NEVER go out in the daylight. In the in-game book, "The Locked Room" the author apperently believes vampires pass out in the daytime and only awaken when the sunsets. Perhaps vampire lords turning into monsters was just another aspect of vampirism that is unknown or misunderstood by the people. Vampire lords are rare, and who would believe some old wives' tale about a flying bat monster? It's very easy to add this into current lore.
This.
Well, while there is no lore to back up the existance of winged vampire lords in current TES lore one could make the argument that there is no lore that specifically states that winged vampire lords dont exist rendering any objection to their implementation based on the lore void.
This.

You were not forced to become a werewolf in the Companions quest line. It was OPTIONAL.

Why would they force us? And how would it work if the player is already a werewolf.

I hope that we aren't forced to transform to enjoy the DLC content.

as far as vampire lords go mechanically, i think it's kind of dumb to assume the one in the game jam video is the one we'll be getting in the DLC. that was something somebody threw together in a week for fun and it was obviously unfinished. whatever's in the DLC will look and feel considerably more polished.

as far as lore:

adjusted this a bit for you but - this. there's exceptions, obviously, like multiple corroborating stories about a thing, but pretty much everything is [censored] grandiose speculation until we as players witness it with our own eyes, especially for something as mythical as vampires and werebeasts.

using "oh it's against lore" as an argument against something doesn't really work nearly as much as people want it to.

Actually, the fact that the Game Jam vampire warlord doesn't look like the Volkhiars from "Immortal Blood" makes me think that it is a strain of vampirism originating from another place than Skyrim, hence substantiating the idea that we'll get to explore new places.

Besides, I would like to say that I LOVE Bethesda for offering us mounted combat! :tes: I hope we'll be able to cast spells from our mount.

That is how you become one in this game its of the quest, so much for being a regular fighter that wants to advance in the guild.

Whats wrong with "Underworld"? I thought it's visual style was pretty awesome, Better then twilights...
Yes and also Kate Beckinsale is pretty, I want to eat her :hehe:

The thing I most want from the game Jam video to be included in DLC or as part of a patch is the vampire and werewolf perk trees because frankly they need to be spiced up a bit...... Racial perk trees would be pretty awesome as well thinking about it

That's right... IF. And even after that you are given an easy option to cure yourself.

Still doesn't change the fact that there can't be a werevampire or w/e you gonna call it. This also means they won't force us to do anything we wouldn't like.

I would love to see a variety of customizable armor in the game. Like add unique features like glass spikes to glass armor (bring back pants!!) or maybe cooler enchantment effects for really powerful weapons like a sword thats literally on-fire (flaming maces sound REALLLY cool!!!). Also I would love to see dragonbone weapons in-game. Bringing back famous daedric weapons like Scourge or the daedric crescent would be really cool to see!! I would also like to see the return of the acrobatics skill. It would be cool to be able to have more mobility options on my character rather than just a sneak roll. Maybe something like like Jumping attacks or jumping off somewhere and land on the person below you (sneak attack kill). Having a more variety of clothing is a must. I didn't like sticking with the arch-mages robes all the time. I pictured him always wearing something more gothic and dark like a arch-necromancers robes.

Introduce darker aspects of magic would also be insanely cool! Bring in Shadow magic like black fireballs or blue flame spells or maybe summon black wraiths and the shadows themselves!! (add a unique flavor of ideas rather than the way things look on earth today). Add some combative conjuration spells like summon giant rocks and watch them slam against your enemy or make magical grass grow for a unique health regeneration or summon giant TREE CREATURES OMG that sounds so cool!!. Cool vampiric sneak attacks like vampiric feeding sneak attacks (bite the neck, drain him dry, and toss him 20 feet away would be cool!). Make dagger dual-wield power attacks faster would be cool because I insanely love daggers (as im sure many other people do also).

Bring in unique editing options like body-tattoos and unique hair styles you wouldnt use when you start out. Also add unique armor options like have the option for your character to wear his helmet while not literally showing he's wearing it. But most of all what I would love to see is a Co-op mode for Skyrim. I still would love to play with my best friend who also plays Skyrim. We would be hooked to the game for DAYS!!! Also bringing in guilds to where you can join the evil side or good side would also be great!!

Also I took the liberty of reposting my ideas for new weapons for your convenient use!! :)

- Claw weapons (like wolverine-style weapons)
- Spears
- pikes
- polearms
- throwing knives and darts (would be great for slow-motion kill cam)
- throwing spears
- slings (maybe explosive bullets?
- two-bladed swords, axes, and maces ( you hold the hilt of the weapon in the middle and you have a blade, axe or mace on both ends of the hilt)
- flails (spiked maces except the end of it is guarded by a chain so as to swing in an arc formation)
- triple-ball flails
- spiked chains and whips - grenades (to add to alchemy, like poison bombs and smoke grenades for disorienting)
- One-handed crossbows (also called hand crossbows but good for dual-wielding)
- light crossbow (for fast shooting)
- heavy crossbow ( for slow shooting but high dmg)
- Spiked armor and shields (for tackling with sprint)
- hidden glove-blades (like assassins creed style but for sneak attack kills)
- Short swords
- blow darts
- dual-wield two-handed weapons (slow attack and high stam cost but very high dmg)
- flintlock pistols and guns
- scimitar
- rapier
- throwing axes
- scythes
- set your own traps (aside from runes)

Love, BETHESDA!! :)

Also one thing I would like to quote about the lore on the vampires. Im really sure that this is the first time Winged vampires will be seen in all of recorded history. Yes its true even ancient vampires havent had the ability to use wings but come on this has to be something that was hidden deep below the earth since the beginning of time and no one knew about it. The world of Tamriel is always going to be filled with secrets that have been buried and have remained secret for AGES. Maybe when vampires die they grow wings if they "somehow" get resurrected. Thats just my opinion but really we have the opportunity to be the "first" of something in all recorded lore and history and I for one intend to take full advantage of that. HAIL TO THE VAMPIRE LORDS!!!

Vythur sounds like a mix between Nordic and Dunmer names. I'm gunna hazard a guess here, and say Falmer.

Possible, but the Falmer language is based on the Ayleid language, and if the text found in Calcelmo's Tower is anything to go by, consonant clusters as in Vyrthur are unusual for the language, which looks like this:
"ye sa sou meldi calne tarn va molagnensaliye trumbi nou bala
ilpen av sou meldi nagaiale as guntumnia spantelepelaelia arani morae"

Vyrthur sounds very Nordic to me. Folgunthur which is one of the nordic ruins, uses the same 'thur' ending.

What makes me think of the Falmer is actually the 'child crying'. It's mentioned on the concept art with the chaurus mount, that they immitate children crying - to lure people into traps apparently. So maybe we get lured into a trap by the Falmer?

Snip
I like the ideas behind the weapons minus guns and grenades, the shadow magic you mention could be expanded upon in necromancy but a black wraith is essentially a wraith. The shadow fire would just be fire with a different skin but shadow damage might not be so bad.

Are you talking about Blacklight or Blackreach? Blacklight is a city on mainland Morrowind that has not been included in any TES game besides arena, and Blackreach is a massive underground dwemer city in Skyrim.

Okay, new info about Dawnguard. I've found a lot of new animation entries from DLC in patch 1.6. Key features:
  • Animations of crossbows now moved to folder DLC01.
  • Mounted combat with crossbows.
  • At least one type of crossbows will be unique with unique animation - Dwarven.
  • Child Crying.
  • New dialogue gestures:
    Defensive Hand;
    Hand on Chin;
    Welcome Hand.
  • Coffin Puzzle.
  • Reading of the Elder Scroll.
  • Animation from the trailer of Dawnguard.
  • Scraping tree bark.
  • Transformation in a Vampire Lord!
  • Vampire Lord's kill moves.
  • "Serana holds Vyrthur". Of course Serana and Vyrthur are in-game NPC's (or something like that), but I have not found any mentions of these names in TES Lore.
  • Snow Elf Prince ascension burning.
  • Pour water in a way shrine.
  • Scooping water in a way shrine.
If you know Russian language, you can read Russian translation of the list above on my site - http://www.elderscrolls.net/news/index.php/weblog/dawnguard-16/

Also, here is the full list of the DLC entries:

Maybe Serana is a NPC while Vyrthur is a place or a stronghold?

The closest to Serana I could find in lore is a Dunmer last name, "Serano".

I recall here my favourite hypothesis about Dawnguard (though it's probably not the most likely), in a list I made http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1374669-dawnguard-and-future-dlc-discussion-thread-29/page__view__findpost__p__20789735.

1. Molag Bal, Azura, the Twin Lamps.

Several threads ago, http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1371845-dawnguard-and-future-dlc-discussion-thread-26/page__view__findpost__p__20743880 that the connection between Falmers and vampires could be Molag Bal. Molag Bal created the first vampire, Lamae Beolfag, the Blood-Matron. Moreover, Molag Bal is the Prince of Domination and Enslavement of the Mortals. Therefore, he might be involved in the narcotic enslavement of the Falmers by the Dwemers and its perpetuation even after the disappearance of the Deep Ones.

Azura's followers have already fought against vampires in the past, the specific example of Dratik appeared in Oblivion. Moreover, Azura is the Prince of Dusk and Dawn. Thus, Dawnguard could be the name of a faction of her worshippers, who struggles against Molag Bal. Let's expand a little railtracer's ideas...

Alas, Moonshadow is said to be so beautiful that it turns the ones who visit it blind or mad. Well. Maybe the Dovahkiin's glowing eyes are in fact an outer sign of the change which happened after his coming to Moonshadow? Maybe other people visited it in the past, and came back with such eyes, and were then wrongly considered blind? Or maybe those eyes are a blessing from Azura, allowing its wielder to walk into Moonshadow without harm?

The natural opponents of the Prince of Enslavement seem to be the Twin Lamps encountered in Morrowind. Now, would it be possible that its name originate in such a blessing of Azura, that the founder of this order had two glowing eyes, and was seen by his or her followers as the wielder of "Twin Lamps"? Could the Twin Lamps of Morrowind be actually a subfaction of a larger Dawnguard?

So a new hero, blessed by the "Twin Lamps", could have to free the Falmer from their perpetuated enslavement, restore them, and then fight against the worshippers of Bal's creature, Lamae Beolfag.

(Besides, if Lamae is featured in a DLC, or her followers, I hope we'll also meet the Shrieking Winds.)

2. An insular DLC.

Since the Snow Prince sepulchar was located in Solstheim, and since the East Empire Company is featured in Skyrim, one could consider that we'll have to go back there.

Besides, the flying vampires featured in the DLC don't look like the Volkhiars described in the lore, who passwall through the ice of frozen haunted lakes. They could arise from another strain of porphyric hemophilia. So where would another clan of Vampire, possibly worshipping Lamae Beolfag, be located? Maybe on the island of Olenveld, which was Talos' personal graveyard. (Also, if Olenveld is featured, I hope we'll find Stalhrim in this necropolis)

Finally, some Falmers could have fled to Roscrea instead of seeking shelter by the Dwemers, and they could be lead by their new Prince and claim their lands back, making Roscrea a possible location for the DLC? Moreover, the existence of Roscrea is acknowledged, but nothing is known about it, so the Devs would be entirely free to build it the way they want.

If the three islands are featured, one could also hope to visit the Castles of Glass and Coral of the Dreughs, in the Sea of Ghosts, which would please the many ones who want to visit places drastically different from Skyrim.

This hypothesis originates in the assumption that Molag Bal, as a key link between Falmers and vampires, would underlie the DLC.

And guess what... The only known representative of the Serano family, Felisti Serano, was a Molag Bal worshipper who lived in Ashalmawia.

And guess what's more... One of the very few quests in Morrowind involving the Twin Lamps brought you to... http://uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Ashalmawia !

(Ok, I must concede that this is a very far-fetched connection... Merely speculation, but I love to speculate )

Are you talking about Blacklight or Blackreach? Blacklight is a city on mainland Morrowind that has not been included in any TES game besides arena, and Blackreach is a massive underground dwemer city in Skyrim.
mainland morrowind, border town to skyrim actually, in the scheme of things.
and its name alone sounds great for a vampire dlc. along with the post above me he quotes "molag bal, azura, twin lamps" lends credence to the idea. though the twinlamps themselves seem a bit far-fetched. but could have evolved into an organization not unlike the vigilants of stendar.

just speculation, but i really want to go back to morrowind, even if its not vvardenfell it should have some of that cultural spice i have been craving :)
