Did the Game Jam video tick you off?

Never even played Morrowind.

Having things like Spellmaking, the achievement of actually working your way up through the Mage's Guild, etc, are what make Oblivion steak compared to Skyrim.

Oh, seriously? Really? Oblivion? Look, I thought Oblivion was great too, but five minutes of Skyrim convinced me Oblivion couldn't hold a candle. Better voice acting, better story, and yeah, better quests. I liked the Mage's Guild and Fighter's Guild quests well enough in Oblivion, but the Companions I find far more interesting. Spellmaking was neat enough, but you could make things overpowered too easily with it. I wouldn't object to it being added back to Skyrim, but still, it just doesn't strike me as the horrible, horrible loss that some seem to consider it.

Just the amazing art direction in Skyrim places it head and shoulders above Oblivion.

Nope.

Prior games were steak.

Skyrim is a Happy Meal.

Oblivion is the happy meal. Skyrim is a steak, only it was cooked rare.

Game Jam Video: http://www.digitalspy.com/gaming/news/a364917/skyrim-game-jam-teases-dragon-mounts-kinect-shouts-video.html

Absolutely. They had ONE WEEK and they came up with all that? And then Todd is all like, "How much of this stuff sees the light of day? To be determined. Could it be in a future DLC? We don't know. Could various parts of it be released for free? We don't know."

What? Tease us with all this cool stuff and then say it may never see the light of day?

They had THREE years of development and 100 people could not get all the stuff into the game that teams came up with in ONE week? *is pissed!*

I know I do not understand game development, but honestly, that just seems really, really wrong.

Has never been on a development team.

Art direction? Better voice acting?

Cosmetic things.

Better stories? Thieves' Guild of Oblivion trumps Skyrim without even trying. The Skyrim TG is so convoluted, full of terrible writing and plot holes that it's not even funny.

College of Winterhold is terrible when held up to the Mage's Guild, and the Dark Brotherhood of Skyrim is barely on par with that of Oblivion.

You can make things too overpowered with Spellmaking?

Welcome to the hallmark of Bethesda, a dev team who can't balance their mechanics well.

The fact people are not happy with Spellmaking or other features being removed is that they weren't replaced with anything as good as what was taken out.

Hell no it didn't piss me off. I thought it was freaking amazing. Anyone who's [censored]ing about it has absolutely no understanding about how product development works, let alone game development works (I don't know much about game development but I've worked in software development).

It also made me really want to work for Bethesda. Giving your development team a paid week to unwind by making whatever awesome [censored] they wanted? Now that's freaking awesome. :)

He ment he was expecting Skyrim to be the GourMEY ( lulz ) Steak prepared by Gordan Ramsey, and what he got instead was in comparison from a Gordan ramsey Steak to a Happy Meal with no fries and no toy.

Hey, I spelled gourmet correctly, you spelled it wrong.

And Benefactor, you contradict yourself. You consider Oblivion the pinnacle of gaming, or "steak", yet say "Welcome to the hallmark of Bethesda, a dev team who can't balance their mechanics well". Bethesda made both the "steak" game and your "Happy Meal" game.

Anyway, this video was meant to excite users on interesting possibilities and future additions in the game. It's Marketing 101 to keep consumers interested. I know I'm looking forward to what comes out in the DLC. However, I hope this video did infact contain at least a few of the new additions we'll be able to acquire via the DLC. People are getting mad just watching the video, imagine how angry they'll be if that stuff doesn't even come out.

It pissed me off. I don't care it would all be bugged, I don't care wether I have no idea what work goes in to a game, nor what I'm talking about. I want to be a vampire lord and I want to be one NOW! :stare:

Not really.

Many, many things in Oblivion, outside of bad game balancing, are better than Oblivion.

Nor did I say Oblivion was the pinnacle of gaming.

The "hallmark" phrase was an example how the quality has downgraded. You would think, that after five games (plus Fall Out), the dev team would have gotten better at balancing. You would think that, because you could break the entire game with Chameleon Armor, that for the next game they wouldn't repeat the same mistake. Yet here we are.

It annoys me that they spent time on marriage and not on one of those cool things in the video. Who even cares about marriage in a game? Especially when it's so crap.

They had one week AFTER they made the game, and each of them only focused on that thing for a week. In development obviously they had more to focus on...

Remember folks this was 1 week of pure coding...

To make it to the game then takes 5 weeks of bug testing

25 weeks of bug finding and fixing..

250 weeks of meetings.

5432 weeks of explaining to todd what the heck THAT is.

158464 weeks of explaining to ratings board that no tush roob gaoo is not in fact something dirty to shout as you do unspeakble acts to a chicken.

and finaly you have to come up with a cool name and trademark it when by now 5 zillion skyrim this and skyrim that are already out... half porm....

I do agree that they wasted valuable game space with ridiculous things when they could have exchanged something stupid with something really cool. Like marriage for example. However, a cool and neat idea it's so unnecessary and inessential. It could've been removed and replaced with something in that video. Although now that I think about it, what isn't cool or useful to me is amazing and favorable to other people. I guess it's alot of give and take.

'tis true. Unfortunately not everyone can be awesome like me and like the best things. :( I loved the look of that Werewolf skill tree too! I really wanted one for them and Vampires. That would add so many more options!

I'd say marriage is more worthwhile than a darker dungeon.

It has more potential for sure.

(Also, Marriage seems to be a really simple process: dialogues and script and that's it.)

Yeah. How dare the developers decide to spend time on a feature that plenty of people will enjoy and use if I don't like it??!?!?!?!?!?!? WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought it was really cool and funny, but after wished I hadn't seen it cause now I really want most of the things in it, but if you didn't watch the actual keynote Todd said an important part to a game is tone and Skyrim had a serious one. If half of that was even in the game the game would be too wacky and just bring the heavy tone down.
