Did the Game Jam video tick you off?

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 11:25 pm

I don't think people here knows how this whole thing works.

No it's not "not enough features? PUSH BACK THE RELEASE DATE", as you've heard these are made in a week.

Also these things seem to be like prototypes that still need things to iron out and need to be considered with the rest of the game. In the same DICE video, Todd said they've been thinking on adding satchels for horses so they can carry your stuff and it would be easy to implement too, but he said they took it out because that would make them way too important and keeping them alive is already annoying as it is.

Oh and creating post-release content is much easier, why else do you think every developer out there loves the idea of DLCs?

They had THREE years of development and 100 people could not get all the stuff into the game that teams came up with in ONE week? *is pissed!*

I know I do not understand game development, but honestly, that just seems really, really wrong.
Agreed. If modders can churn out working awsome stuff in a matter of days, then whats holding Bethesda back? *apart from moar money*

They really have no excuse when the new consoles come out...

like i said on page one, listen to what todd himself says, he says "you can do anything in a game, you just can't do everything". the line has to be drawn somewhere people. sorry if what you wanted was after that line, but that's how the cookie crumbles..things get cut, things get left out, simply because they filled the game with other features. you cannot add everything in a game, that's impossible.

They had one FREE week after years of "hard work" on Skyrim..it's different.

Dlc's are for money and we all knows that... Bethesda doing what others developers doing, nothing more..and often in a better way (Shivering Isles for instance)

Consider that maybe some of this stuff that you've seen in the "Game jam" can "broke" others things "more important" in the game ..and an executive producer have to consider that before releasing, you know..the "lesser of two evils"...it's too easy to evaluate without knowledge sometimes.

No I didn't get mad, I just REALLY want them to add halberds in since they have teased us that there can be spears. Also the mounted combat would be awesome hopefully they would take a few things from Mount and Blade.

It didn't 'tick me off' but I do wonder how they made so many awesome features that could have been in the game in ONE WEEK when they were developing it for three years and came out with a great product lacking some of this kind of creativity. Everything they showed better be DLC. Hell, I'd even pay for it, the svcker I am.

Spears looked awesome, mounted combat looks fun, but not as fun as mounting a dragon (which I was opposed to prior to release).

all that video did was raise the bar of expectations I had for any future DLC, if they can come up with that in a week, they sure as hell can implement some of those ideas into some amazing DLC, or even FREE DLC (no one does that anymore though :( seems like games are built, then cut into pieces so they can charge you 4 or 5 times over for it)

It sure didn't tick me off. I thought it was great fun and a good laugh. We'll see if any of it makes it into some DLC. Some of it could be fun additions. :tes:

No, it didn't "tick me off" at all. What about all the stuff that wasn't in the video? Yeah, cool fancy moves with stickfighting with full body rotations and all the usual stuff you'd expect from a 3rd person game. Where was the 1st person stuff? I was bloody impressed with just about anything I saw, even if some of it I don't want in the game. At the same time I try to be realistic wrt game design and I AM capable of seeing some challenges that would be hard to overcome, if feasibly possible at all.

There is much more to game design than putting content in, and I'm betting any modder on this forum can testify to that. I can't believe why anyone would seriously be "ticked off" by it? :(

so true. no matter what, people will whine over what's not in, no matter WHAT is in the game..

Its not that , its just that they included things that people also wanted in oblivion lol

waisted time needed for bugfixing...

totally agree!! Alot of the bugs are major bugs that should have been picked up on during test phase, at my place of work we DO NOT get a pat on the head for a half ass job.Now don't get me wrong I have 500+ hours invested in the game,it is a gorjuss game hands down and I find my-self lost for hours on end just playing but broke is broke and it should have been addressed. The 500+ hours I have invested was full of bugs and wait times for patches(thank you micro.) And had I had my time back I would have waited for all if not most of the problems to be fixed befor buying the game but I was mislead with all the show and promis of a game experiance that I would not forget. And yes I have now gotten my $70 worth and more out of the game but was it an experiance that I wont forget? I say yes in regards to being frustrated with bugs/patch fix, more bugs/patch fix, more bugs/patch fix. It seems that the more they try to fix the game the more problems seem to arise, soooo what was the point of releaseing a broken game? I would have forgiven Beth. for saying yes we said 11.11.11 but there are to many glitchs to meet that dead line, instead they release a broken game (and I know they new it was glitchy) patch the buggers out of it and create more head ach for them and the gamer. And now to top it all of they release a vid. of what would happen if given free rain wich in my eyes is rubbing salt in an already fresh wound and that pisses me off to no end.

Am i mad? not really. I think we should wait and see what they do with the content shown on the video (and not shown). I am almost positive they knew what they were in for once they released that video. So lets just wait and see.

I must admit I was like ''why isn't this in the game? And why can't we get that?'', but on the other hand, these are all still prototypes of what might actually be released. Still, there is a lot of potential in that vid, and I hope they will at least put some of these things in a future DLC pack.

Bethesda, please give the person that came up with the giant mudcrab a raise.

Do keep in mind that none of these features would have been bug-tested or QA tested.

Sure you might get seasonal foliage, but maybe it causes crashes if you let it run for more than 1 hour.

And as far as whiny goes, it's easy for one who can fix the problem them-selves to call to one who cannot a whinner. I play on 360, my bro. plays on PC and we have been almost mirrored in the bug department which he can take 2sec. with command keys to fix while I wait a month for a patch.(thanks again micro.). I love the Elder scroll series!! I've been playen since morrowind but because of the issues I've had so far I will no longer run out to buy the next in the series, instead I will wait and see if history repeats itself (whic it tends to do.)

I would have waited another week or so for foliage, better water, a giant mudcrab, spears, goblins, making my own house, and OHMYGOD GOBLINES TWICE.

Seriously, Beth. Actually, I would have rather had them make a better PS3 port >_<

Made me laugh more than it made me angry. And not just with the arrow in the knee puns.

There is so much more that could be done with Skyrim; it could've been so bloody EPIC that nobody would even recall the shame that was Oblivion. Ever. It would put gamesas back on top of the heap when it comes to RPGs. And not by paid reviewers, but by public opinion.

But of course, if the game didn't drop on 11/11/11, everyone would take an arrow in the knee.

Absolutely. They had ONE WEEK and they came up with all that? And then Todd is all like, "How much of this stuff sees the light of day? To be determined. Could it be in a future DLC? We don't know. Could various parts of it be released for free? We don't know."

What? Tease us with all this cool stuff and then say it may never see the light of day?

To be fair, some of those dev mods looked like they needed some more work and polish.

I was listening to Weekend Confirmed this morning and I believe it was Jeff who mentioned that much of what was shown could be done by modders.

What irritates me is things like darker dungeons wasn't included but something completely worthless like marriage made the cut.
