Did the Game Jam video tick you off?

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 10:47 am

There is no way this stuff could be done ina week , SSAO for example is something you either have or not in the engine , and is something probably removed to please consolle hardware ...

all this stuff is already in many other games , they ship their games with them "already" and do not provide them throught DLCs, make pay for this stuff woudl be lame , they should just release as "completition" to the uncpmpleted game they released on the "cool" 11 11 11 ....

Pete said they couldnt add snow footprints because thats considered "deformation" even though the video clearly showed it was just a texture. Thats what pisses me off.

deformation? lol ..... every game does have normal mapped texture particle sticked on z axis on the terrain after a character walks and since early 2000 ... after 12 years still can't be implemented ? sounds silly ...

Now if this content was developed after Skyrim's release in a week then what the hell was BGS doing for 3 full time years (2 more for semi shared brainstorming) and why hasn't ANY of these features that appear to work at least on PC where it can actually handle more so unoptimization or more so heavy load as seasons and rushing waters would do. But even things such as spears been proven to work with full fledged animations the one of two "arguments" people have brought up other then Balance which there is no such thing as in Skyrim now.

So yes any and all features that have been shown in the Jam that was planned or being worked up to released should be free content for consumers.
There is balance in Skyrim. It is what allows me to make it through a dungeon or across a landscape without getting bored and without getting frustrated.

As for what BGS might have been doing for three years, they were probably doing the kinds of things they say they do. They try out a bunch of different things, select a subset of those things for inclusion in the game (for the sake of balancing their development resources), and they test and they tweak.

No not angry, but hopeful.

Hopeful that they will see the positive reaction to the video release and then either add it into the game as either DLC or be added onto an expansion.

A lot of stuff sounds very exciting... like the spell combos for instance that sound like a creative system for magic. A couple of thing I think should have been in the game in the first place and so I hope it gets added in future patches. Mainly SSAO I have the broken SSAO from Nvidia driver and looks very bad with fog. Makes underwater look even worse. I hope they make underwater scene look good because so far it's terrible. Especially when I fall in the pools like in Whiterun for instance. I also love the graphical improvements to landscape. I think I'd pay to see it in the game just to encourage them to be innovative but it's not a big deal per se. I suppose they are going to make epic mounts instead of horse barding. Makes sense Blizzard offer new mounts for real dollars so Beth shouldnt hold back. Especially in they add dragon riding in the package. that would be great with the open cities mod.
I am not angry about the stuff because Skyrim is already a great game. Maybe my personal favourite. And this video and the spirit behind is a nice response to the enthousiasm of the mod community since the game came out.

Did it make me angry?

Nope.

Get over it.

In fact, if any of it makes it to the game I hope they charge for it. This way the people who like to whine have more to whine about.

No it did not. Why? Because I am not 4 years old. This reminds me of sitting in a room with children that are given gifts and crying..."I want THAT one". and "But..but...He got more than I did"

3 years is not a lot actually.
I think that they should've delayed release date of Skyrim for two more years (one at least).

I prefer waiting for a good game than having a mediocre game right now.

That's the one thing I would never use. I can nerd with the best of them, but that's too much for me. Gotta draw the line somewhere or you'll end up becoming fluent in Klingon and wearing your Jedi robes to the grocery store or something.

True 'dat

...But god it still looks fun (Shouting shouts, not wearing my Jedi Robes to the Grocery store... not that I have jedi robes :ermm: )

Game Jam Video: http://www.digitalspy.com/gaming/news/a364917/skyrim-game-jam-teases-dragon-mounts-kinect-shouts-video.html

Absolutely. They had ONE WEEK and they came up with all that? And then Todd is all like, "How much of this stuff sees the light of day? To be determined. Could it be in a future DLC? We don't know. Could various parts of it be released for free? We don't know."

What? Tease us with all this cool stuff and then say it may never see the light of day?

They had THREE years of development and 100 people could not get all the stuff into the game that teams came up with in ONE week? *is pissed!*

I know I do not understand game development, but honestly, that just seems really, really wrong.
they cant add everything alot of that was rough as rasins, its a product they made and desisions are made what goes in what doesnt, obviously from ppl reactions not all the refinment over diversity desissions where a good idea. it doesnt make me mad tho, ive already play 300 hours of the game thats alot more than most of the games i get for £30. It was nice to see i think.
hopefully it quites the ppl saying they were lazy or coulnt do x its not obvious the powers at be just choose what when to include stuff(shock horror)

Its a lot easier to show off a "new feature" when it only has to work for the duration of one demo and you don't care what it breaks outside that use case. To actually have those in game would require a fair bit of QA.

Say what you want, but Bethesda has the best DLC released of any game I know. The full expansions are something I will gladly pay for. I think the price is reasonable for their games and expansion, of course. I don't like it when a company takes advantage of DLC *coughCAPCOMcough-hackpfft*, but Bethesda has done theirs proper. Some other companies charge ridiculous prices for everything, including stuff that's already on disc. Hey other companies, why not release those costume packs which are only hue changes to your fans as a thank you for purchasing multi-million copies of your game? No? Oh, okay. Charge the people who will eat it up because they have no other choice. I don't plan to buy any other your future released titles because of it.

When the dlc The Burning Plateaus releases for Skyrim, I will buy it the moment it releases on the market. While the GameJam stuff is cool and was meant to show fans they are capable of such things and had tons of ideas, I think those little things should be free. 1) Many agree some of those should already be in the game. 2) Fan appreciation.

Although, if it were everything in in Game Jam video, that'd be worth a small price for sure. Some? Free, please.

I know it looked great in the video, but you also didn't see any potential bugs those changes would have caused.

So, 100 guys did all that in a week and perhaps even more because i doubt they showed everything. 100 guys working 8 hours a day, 5 days a week = 4000 hours

The only part that ticked me off:

Bethesda: Look at all of this awesome stuff people have been clamouring for! Spears! New skills! Flails! Mounted Combat! Seasons!
Me: WOW! I really like the look of all this stuff! Please do release!
Bethesda: Hmm, maybe some of it...
Me: :stare:

This pretty much sums up my opinion. Bethesda shouldn't tease us with that stuff and then say that it might never see the light of day.

If they show it, we'll want it. So release it in a dlc, for muffin's sake, Bethesda.

The moving dungeon platforms were excellent, and would fit the design ethic of the nordic dungeons (and think of the puzzles you could have built, finding the way to get that platform down to you......)
If they gave us seasons, it would be the first time since Daggerfall that we -had- them. And it would make the world feel more alive.
The current shader was excellent (and an excellent example of why many of us say screw textures, give us shaders).
The giant mudcrab was perfect....particularly if it was on the northern coast off Winterhold, as it appeared.
Footprints. Hm. I'd want to see if they were Player specific, or if everything left them. If the former, a nice gimmick. If the =latter=, then you suddenly have one hell of a game mechanic. You could actually -track- things; animals or monsters or people.
Current in the dungeon water.......ooooh, yes. An excellent way to drag one into that hidden chamber.
Spears.....I'd want to see how they performed in tight dungeon areas before saying they were proven, but it looks good so far.

Most of this was undoubtedly proof of concept work.....and maybe a little 'give us the room to shine, dammit!' as well. Studios are like any other organization; they can fossilize, or cannonize one concept or individual's vision, and forget many of the things that made them great in the quest for the Next Big Thing. How much of this would work on a console is open to question; there were some potentially memory heavy things going on there. But as a potential enhancements..... (who would -not- like to see the better dungeon lighting, ability to put out torches, and having guards relight the damned things, hmmmm?)

I prefer waiting for a good game than having a mediocre game right now.

Skyrim a "mediocre game" ? are you serious ?
then don't play it anymore..plain and simple.

In my opinion this game is a masterpiece, even with his bugs and problems (understandable due to the huge game world,"radiant ai" and 11 11 11 "deadline")
Some of you "whiners" really don't respect others people hard work and commitment.

Bethesda have done a great job and i' m sure that some of that stuff showed in this ironic "game jam" will see the light of day in a future Dlc soon (i'm referring to the "serious one"..no giant mudcrab and "screaming kinect" please..)
And i sincerely hope that mounted combat, spears, snow footprints and other "essential stuff" will be add for free with others contents in the future.

Obviously i 'm also pissed off with some of the bugs; but i' ve patiently waited 1.4 and now it seems all ok for me (blood on ice, companions guild, thieves guild ecc..) i really don' t understand some attitudes on those forums; i mean, instead of the same old "whining and complaint" post open more constructive topics that really can helps the developers to understand and fix some of the problems of the game that you've encountered - or simply report what you don' t like or what features you want to see implemented in the future in Skyrim.

If you've a bugged quest In the meantime doing somewhat else, start another character or play another game..simple.. and wait for a patch that finally resolve all your "problems" in the next months..

Or if you simply don't like Skyrim and consider it just "mediocre" (a game that you've probably played and enjoyed for hundred of hours) just don't play it anymore..but please stop whining and moaning about this and that like my 3 year old nephew in almost every 3d.

a huge "free" game world with tons of quests and a radiant ai is expected to have a lot of bugs ..at least from an advlt and mature perspective.

I've liked and enjoyed Skyrim and i think is one of the most memorable games ever -even with his flaws ; but even the greatest thing on this earth don't have imperfections, don't ask to a game to be "perfect" - or at least give the developers the time to improve it at his "maximum".

After all we talk about an entertainment product,a very good one if you ask me...if you don' like it just doing something else. But don't ask for a refund after 250-500 hrs of playing ( isn't that supposed to be called "entertaining" ?) or call it just "mediocre" on your individual basis.

As long as the game's playable I tend to prefer an on-time release and then post-release fixes. Supreme Commander 2 had some major post-release changes to it, particularly relating to how technology worked and pre-building structures. That was all free, and they had an (inexpensive) add-on DLC adding more units. It happens.
