I have a dumb question. What precisely do people mean when they say that the Dwemer became the golden skin of the Numidium? Yes I've read the links provided, but I don't really understand it. Can someone post it in simpler terms?
“It was unfashionable among the Dwemer to view their spirits as synthetic constructs three, four, or forty creational gradients below the divine. During the Dawn Era they researched the death of the Earth Bones, what we call now the laws of nature, dissecting the process of the sacred willing itself into the profane. I believe their mechanists and tonal architects discovered systematic regression techniques to perform the reverse -- that is, to create the sacred from the deaths of the profane."-Baladas DemnevanniIt all begins with the difference between the worldview of the merish and the mannish races.
The mannish races see creation as a gift, as a means to become greater than what was possible before.
The merish races see creation as a trap, the Aedra as jailors and many long to return to the endless possibility of before.
The Dwemer studied the downward cycle of creation in an attempt to undo, reverse it.
Instead of becoming ever smaller and more fragmented, they attempted to uncreate themselves back into one being that would be infinitely greater.
Numidium was to house this being and it would be powered by the Heart of Lorkhan.
That is what is meant by 'golden skin', they were to be the golden mean of the Numidium, the bridge between the Mundane and the Divine, ultimately to return to the first brushstroke of Anu and Padomay and the infinite roads of possibility.
