Horizontal vs vertical mouse sensitivity

Post » Mon May 21, 2012 3:07 am

Because of this bug I'm just fooling around in the area around Riverwood, getting to know the game. I do NOT want to start my real first playthrough with this crippling bug still in the game.

This needs to stay near the top until we get an acknowledgement from Bethesda.

Have the same issue. It's ruining the game. Makes me nauseous and gives me a headache.

I know that they won't reply on a Sunday(or perhaps at all), but this needs to stay bumped.

I am guessing that since V-Sync is on by default and there is no way to turn it off without editing INI files or forcing it off the developers either never noticed it or tried to mask the problem by forcing V-Sync on. Since the consoles are fixed hardware, the developers can choose settings that give a consistent 40-60 fps without too much trouble. Because of this it is very possible that this issue is actually present in all versions of the game, but it is only on the PC that it is apparent.

Either way I don't see how the hell Bethesda let this one slide past. How didn't they catch this is beta (or maybe they did and ignored it)?

It doesn't matter how beautiful your engine looks if you [censored] up something as simple as input handling.

I've already said somewhere else this reminds me of those old games from the nineties that you can't play anymore nowadays, because they run too fast on modern CPU's.

Basic programming really. NEVER, EVER rely on clockspeed / framerate of a computer to time events in a game. Beth seems to have forgotten about that with the vertical mouse-speed.

Could someone with a slow X axis test to see if the problem still exists at lower resolutions? I've experienced calibration problems in the past that were effected by resolution.

Bump.

Someone might be able to get the game playable by trying lower resolutions.

Lowering the resolution would only make it worse, since you'd be getting a hefty increase in overall FPS.

The mouse works fine when the FPS is high, it's only when the framerate drops does it become a problem. I don't know if having too much fps could cause problems, but that's what's vsync is for.

Turning off AA fixed it for me... no clue why, I'm at 1920x1200, nothing else worked. The FXAA doesn't have a negative impact, just the AA setting, things look better with it off anyway, much less blurry...

This is definitely one of the most bizarre bugs (or random features) I've encountered during my years as a gamer, and it's taking away all joy of playing this game.
I've tried several of the aforementioned tweaks, but none of them fix the Y-sensitivity changing with FPS.

On another note high FPS also makes collision detection go crazy. When indoors I get about 200-300 FPS, and loose objects start banging against whatever they're lying on or shoots through the air at incredible speed whenever I get near.
I actually walked up to a horse cart outdoors and the damn thing lifted into the air and almost killed me when I touched it...

FIX. THIS. NOW!

I assume you disabled vsync to fix your mouse?

I had this problem but I resolved all my mouse issues by turning off vsync and installing a frame limiter where I cap it at 60.

Some people don't want to play without VSync. I hate screen tearing with a passion, and what's more, the mouse sensitivity would skyrocket indoors. Hardly a solution.

I am recommending that vsyc be enabled, not disabled. I was asking him his reason for disabling it.

I disabled AA and the mouse works MUCH better...though there are still occasions where it goes back to slow-movement.

its becoz after u turned AA off, u get a fps boost, the occasions where u get low sensitivity is becoz u still get low fps at those places... turning off AA is NOT a fix...

If some people are finding the game unplayable just lower your resolution/quality settings so that your framerate never drops too low. I know the visuals are not ideal but at least the game is playable until a patch is released.

The vertical works fine when FPS is high, but the horizontal goes berserk at a high FPS.

EDIT: Also there are other problems associated with high FPS, including some pretty ridiculous physics engine issues.
