Introducing Kinect Support for 360 #2

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 9:43 pm

i think it was the previous kinect thread where the poster listed the actual stats of kinect sales. it's insanely high.

That was me. I got it from wikipedia when I was trying to learn more about the kinect.

Here:

18 million units of the Kinect sensor had been shipped by January 2012.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinect#cite_note-18-million-0 Having sold 8 million units in its first 60 days on the market, Kinect has claimed the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guinness_World_Record of being the "fastest selling consumer electronics device".http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinect#cite_note-10-million-1http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinect#cite_note-Gamasutra-record-18http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinect#cite_note-CVG-record-19http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinect#cite_note-Guinness-record-20 According to Wedbush anolyst Michael Pachter, Kinect bundles accounted for about half of all Xbox 360 console sales in December 2010 and for more than two-thirds in February 2011.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinect#cite_note-138http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinect#cite_note-139 More than 750,000 Kinect units were sold during the week of Black Friday 2011.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinect#cite_note-140http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinect#cite_note-141

If I saw someone in a room playing Skyrim with Kinect, I'd just randomly shout FUS RO DAH while they're walking through town.
I'd probably shout STRUN BAH QO (Storm Call) so they inadvertently kill a bunch of people in town and get on the guard's bad side. :D

Now that my initial anger and disppointment have passed, I feel like this isn't so bad. I'm happy that Bethesda is supporting Skyrim. I'm not interested in anything with Kinect, but like someone above posted, this is the second free thing they've given us from the Game Jam. I'm really looking forward to the DLC and I'm happy to hear that they are making progress toward finishing it. Can't come soon enough for me

I'd just do a strategic quick load, after he defeated a tough boss or found some great loot. Or quick save when he has a sliver of health and is about to die.

Ooh I just got an interesting Idea.

You guys are wondering why they did Kinect as a separate free download from the DLC (instead of the other gamejam stuff)?

maybe all the good stuff from gamejam is being saved for the DLC!

Lol, I completely agree with you there. But when you start getting into how to make the world right by changing how business works then the only way to change it is to make the entire world work in an Ideal way. which is not possible.

Anyways I for one absolutely hate talking politics / ethics in a real world setting because everyone just ends up ticked at each other so back to topic.

"New locations to explore"
I for one hope this involves summerset Isle.

Our standpoints regarding the world economy are pretty much the same, didn't expect that to be honest. ^^

Also I don't think they will include Summerset Isle, I think it's more in the line of new dungeons or using one of the passages to the other provinces that are already there (the one to Morrowind and the one to Hammerfell, I think).

i think it was the previous kinect thread where the poster listed the actual stats of kinect sales. it's insanely high. all the freakin non-gamers and wii lovers and grandparents, etc. must buy that stuff up.

the evolution of video games has become full-tilt mainstream now. the casuals must be taken into account.

Well, in my opinion every console gamer is somewhat of a casual. Competitive gaming is a thing for the PC, there are reasons why shooters don't utilize crossplatform Multiplayer. ;)

Some games I like better on console(Demons souls), others I like on PC, though more for PC.

edit:^^^^^^ Forget what I said there, Dark souls is coming to pc :ahhh:

Perfect example of what you said? Call of duty player think they are awsome. They would get torn to shreds by counter strike players.

We want bugfixes and DLC, and instead Bethesda gives us Kinect support? I don't own Kinect, and I never will own Kinect, and I know many gamers who feel the same way.

The games aren't even remotely comparable. And what you said is like saying NBA players would get torn to shreds by NFL players. Put a veteran Counter Strike player in a regular Call of Duty match against a vet Call of Duty player, and the Counter Strike player will get smoked. Switch it around, and the CoD player will get put to shame. The games reward two different types of playstyles.

Fine by me, but given the recent economic trends, the people you are catering to are making way less money these days and are more inclined to pirate stuff and hack crap than someone like me.
That is 100% spot on. They are catering to the scummy casuals that don't care anything for a game developer and know nothing about brand loyalty. Bethesda might want to watch out with this kind of business model. Sure they may make a little less money catering to loyal Bethesda fans like us, but we'd keep buying their games even through the worst economic times.

Like you said, the people that Bethesda now cater to are the ones that will pirate games "to try them out first" and never actually pay for them.

As if I'm going to buy a Kinect just for opening menus easier.

Hey Bethesda, how much did Microsoft bribe you to do this? If I remember correctly Todd said during the summer that MS already wanted it to have Kinect support. Must of been a pretty big bribe.

Well, In my opinion every PC gamer is somewhat of an elitist snob.

What do you call a gamer who plays xbox and PC equally?

This whole console war thing ticks me off. Play what you want to play. Pc gamers are not elitists because they can mod. In fact the guy you responded to didn't even say anything mildly offensive. Each way of playing has its advantages and disadvantages.

...I live in a world so full of hate...

I'm moving to skyrim so I can hang out with parthurnax.

I'm really tired of this motion control sensor crap. I don't have a Kinect to expensive and it's a stupid machine. You have to stand in a minimal range of a mime box just so the Kinect can pick up any movement. Fable 4 I'm not buying just for that fact. I don't want to have to sit on my couch waving my hands to handle horse reigns. I think the Kinect is a pile of industry hooo hah just the way the Wii was. And the fact that game companies are becoming more family friendly means I don't get the games I enjoy. Like someone else said here I was a child a played the N64 and played Quake, Doom, Nightmare Creatures, etc. And now we have parents who call out for kid friendly material, but I'm sorry it isn't just the industries fault it's the parents job to teach their child reality and fiction. I'm tired of being screwed over and once again I'm screwed over for a stupid expensive Kinect instead of getting actual DLC.

And to someone who said that we may get other Gamejam stuff free. Keep dreaming. Companies are never nice enough to give DLC content for free. Soul Calibur 5 taught me that lesson. The free thing was the Compatibility Pack, but guess what. The Compatibility Pack was just that so I could see the DLC other people bought with real money, while I sit here with no content at all. B.S. Comapnies do not give out beneficial DLC for free.

as if bethesda is going to NOT release gameplay features on the kinect that has the possibility of drawing in even more users and money.

Kinect is cool and all. However, I play games so I can avoid exercise....

I would like to see how this turns out. A couple of games have integrated this well, mostly in getting around the UI rather than the game. I have seen some that use the Voice function of Kinect. So, it will be interesting to see what comes of this.

My disapointment is twofold. Being on ps3, this "big news around the corner" means nothing to me. Plus, judging by beths wording, we are not even going to hear anything about the dlc for quite some time. AND WHERE ARE MY DRAGON WEAPONS!! Ok. I feel better now.

I don't own or ever intend to own a Kinect but I'm rather impressed by the functionality on display there. Wouldn't mind it being given just voice command recognition with a headset if it could be done also calling followers by name would be spiffy. Now about those spears in gamejam Bethesda.... :poke:

i don't wear gear to play a video game and never will.

i agree, that the voice commands are great functional commands.

and, since, i always want gaming advancement and creativity, i would hope that more and more of the games i/we like will have that superb functionality down the road. thus, making kinect a good buy for our genre of gamers.

think a little outside your box people.

Construction Kit benefits a PC player. I'm on the 360 without a Kinect. So....

I get crappy magic and arrow killcams that are no different from my character doing his normal

"Patches" that cause more bugs and glitches. They may fix the other issues, but create new issues and trouble.

They could pull a Valve, but they are not going to.

That my friend is a problem with Microsoft. Not Bethesda.

Bethesda wanted to give us console guys the creation kit, but Micro$oft fears any type of user created content.

Kinect isn't the end of the world however I feel the announcement is in poor taste with Skyrim still suffering from a majority of bugs, bugs that modders have mostly fixed.

Wow I've never seen so many people complain about something that's free. It's not like Bethesda said "Hey fans, F you, we're releasing Kinect support and then cutting all patch and DLC progress, hahahahah take that!"

It even says that this month they will have more news on upcoming add-ons and that the Kinect support is in a patch, which I'm willing to bet will hold more fixes.

:deal: Reading helps.

I've never been a fan of the motion type gameplay. With kinect, wii, ect. It's fun to play around for a bit with the kiddy/cartoon sports games, but I'd never consider using it as a primary method of gaming.

Kind of disappointed if this is the big news for April. I've never been a fan of the motion type gameplay. With kinect, wii, ect. It's fun to play around for a bit with the kiddy/cartoon sports games, but I'd never consider using it as a primary method of gaming.

see post above yours.

there is no motion control in the video.
