I believe Bethesda has been very generous in post release support. They have attempted to fix a lot of stuff and released things for free, let's cut some slack?

Big expansion announcement incoming soon anyway, time to get all hyped up again.

i think it was the previous kinect thread where the poster listed the actual stats of kinect sales. it's insanely high. all the freakin non-gamers and wii lovers and grandparents, etc. must buy that stuff up.

the evolution of video games has become full-tilt mainstream now. the casuals must be taken into account.
i think this is a bit short sighted - more money in the gaming industry, and more 'responsible advlts' looking into it is probably a good thing. instead of a blip on the gaming news radar, a broken AAA release like 11-11-11 was would become actual news. companies might have to become more responsible.

... that makes me sad.

Today's kids wont experience quake or half life or morrowind or Fable (the original!) or Diablo or spyro... the list goes on.

Today's kids will grow up slapping their self in the face trying to pop a virtual balloon in front of them. Either that or watching cartoons that make you feel like your brain is leaking out your ears. Or (shudder) Jersey shore.

Edit, yea I know none of those are kid games (except spyro) but you all gotta admit, you played em'.
you act as if gaming is the only avenue for kids to explore fantasy. i have a ten year old, he is into UC series and GT, Dirt3 and ratchet and clank. He doesn't need mortal combat either though. He also plays baseball and reads actual BOOKS.

There are still lots of great games for kids. You can't say the Lego star wars games arent good.

Narp, voice support is perfectly feasible on every platform and that is all the Kinect support they are including will be.
I think the Kinect API takes a LOT less work to implement voice recognition than PC or PS3, where they would probably need some 3rd party library and glue that into the game. On Xbox the Kinect API provides a lot of stuff the other two just don't. It is a much larger effort to do VR on pc or PS3.

So what are PS3 users getting besides late DLC?

Nothing really to get excited about. Now you can really screw things up by trying to use your voice to do something and then have the Kinect not understand it.

Sorry, I'll stick to my controller.

Kinect is for kids and casual games, it should stay that way.

Not really a Kinect fan (wish you can use a mic, but I understand that it wold take a lot more work to do that), but if I ever do get it... this looks pretty nice.

You'll be able to use a headset microphone if it's going to use the same technology as ME3.

Then the Wright Brothers were able to get their plane off the ground and fly, if even for a moment. The naysayers sat on their porches, drinking their moonshine, mumbling, "Bah. Nothing will come of it!".

Seriously, if you don't see the Kinect as the dawn of a new gaming era, you're no better than a drunken curmudgeon wagging his head at any great inventor at any point in time. It may not be perfect, but it's definitely a first step to what gamers, like me, have always dreamed about... the holodeck.

You're right. ME3 apparently works fabulously (when using a headset) according to my friends.

You give me a Holodeck, I'll be excited. The Kinect isn't even CLOSE to anything like a Holodeck.

It's a gimmick, nothing more.

I'll leave it at that as I don't want to derail the topic and have to take the wrath of the moderators.

But but but... I wasn't sayin' kids need to play more video games than everything else.

In the scope of video games they miss out on the greatest, but yea I would encourage any kid that actually takes interest in a book. They are a lost medium.

I read books as much as I play video games. (Stephen King and Michael Crighton for the win! Sorry if I mispelled.) Whenever I suggest a good book to a friend and their like "lol you reed buuks?" it pisses me off.

If your kid is interested in reading I have a great deal of respect for you sir! Too many parents now days just throw their kid in front of a tv and let their brain melt.

In short: old games > waving hands like mad for no reason

but

good books > Old games > waving hands like mad

Kinect may be a gimmick as a whole, but you can't deny that the voice recognition alone will be life-changing to Skyrim Xboxers. Have you tried playing as a mage with 2 hotkeys? :P

PC voice commands have been around for years. I used to use them in various FPS games. The one I used only required you to have a mic. You had to pre-record your commands and insert the keys that were to be pressed when you said them. After that it worked remarkably well. I'm sure there's something similar available still. At the very least it would allow you to use all your hotkeys by voice. It's still not as well integrated as what they're showing in the Kinect video but it's better than nothing if you really want some voice commands. I just wish they would release this one soon. I just started a new mage and I can't wait to switch spells on the fly by voice. That is going to make playing a mage so much easier.

That isn't even remotely the same. We know the tech is there, we just don't want it in our games yet, let it become more developed. For example, going off your example, would you use the plane the Wright brothers used for anything important? No? Because it was only in flight for a few seconds. Just as this new motion control is brand new, we (or should I say, I.) want it to be more developed, more useful, and not a pain to use.

For the record, I actually really like this idea because encourages the use of shouts. Currently, I don't use shouts that often because it's a hassle to have to open a menu and select a new shout, but if I could just select them by saying them, I'd be much happier. Especially with the fortify restoration infinite shout exploit. It's be great fun to use Ice Form, Whirlwind Sprint, and Unrelenting Force in one continuous combo.

I'm just bothered by the fact it's a Kinect exclusive. Timed exclusives are one thing, but to make it so you can't use it at all because you bought the game because you had an understanding that while another platform might get content early, you'd still get it in the end is wrong.

I have 360, I have Kinect, we shall be using this new feature. Thank you, Bethesda!!

Hopefully, there will come a day when we can use the kinect to use physical evasive manuvers, use weapons, and if I does, that will be seventy eight thousand kinds of awesome.

It is not released yet.

Well, then, that explains why my pleas to my Kinect for quicksaves went unanswered for an hour straight.

But, still, a free, voice-activated console is wonderful customer support, especially from the people who made thre Horse Armor DLC.

Kinect is cool and all. However, I play games so I can avoid exercise....

I would like to see how this turns out. A couple of games have integrated this well, mostly in getting around the UI rather than the game. I have seen some that use the Voice function of Kinect. So, it will be interesting to see what comes of this.

I hear you I use the wii I bought for netflix and darkside chronicles cause I don't have to move :)

I'm looking forward to this. It will allow me to actually put my Kinect to use! I think that I will use more of the game's features because they will be easier to access.

Oh, and for the record, I'm not a 9 year old, so people can stop crying "kinect kiddies."
