Mass Effect Thread #70

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 2:30 am

To be fair I've not commented in the last few ME threads because they've rapidly become 'ME Multiplayer' threads. And I don't play multiplayer...
I'd talk all day about single player but alas I'm not the guy who starts conversations.
How hard is it to program cut-scenes that show me with the load-out that I have. I mean, the armor is correct and half the time the gun I use is strapped to my back (I only take the Geth pulse rife ) yet I am ever either holding the basic N7 assault rifle, a pistol, or if I'm lucky, my assault rife like its a pistol. WTF Bioware. How hard is it really!
That's been since ME1. There I accepted it since I thought it was just an oversight. In ME2 it became a tad annoying since it became clear they were doing it intentionally. In ME3 it was just stupid.

You only played ME3, right?

I think the player's anger is largely proportional to how much time they've put into the series. If you only played ME3, I could understand being satisfied with the ending.

I've played A LOT of Mass Effect. I can't even fathom how much play time I had on the first one. Well over 300 hours with more than 10 different shepards. If anything pissed me off it was the renegade feeling of Mass Effect 2. Players who fully play the first mass effect and all of the side quests (done with text) will grow to hate Cerberus and the thought of even siding with them in second one frustrated the hell out of me. The whole environment just felt wrong too. You spent most of your time in buildings under construction, ware houses, night clubs and poverty struck slums. The whole game was a shade of red.

Anyways, I thought the ending of Mass Effect 3 was fine. Frankly, I wished more people would have died as it would have made for a much more emotional experience as you've grown to see these characters develop and what not. But i'm perfectly content with how it ends.

My only complaint would be the fact that it felt like the game ended 4 times -- the last sequences being the most detached.

I'm a renegade player (usually 5:1 ratio renegade:paragon) and I did not like ME2 renegadism because it forced you to be a total ass to everyone to get points (or rather avoid paragon points). Having to mock and tough my squad mates just so the stupid karma system would allow me Renegade choices was stupid. I never like playing as an ass, to me being a Renegade is about getting the job done no matter the cost - but how you get there is not the question. I always try to be polite to people because it's just how a soldier should behave. Being a Paragon - well - to me that's mostly saving kittens from trees and doing good for your own sake and risking galactic stability so you get your name in history.

P.S. I agree that ME3 should have used some more death. I already intentionally off a lot of ME2 squad mates but losing one or two in the final assault would have served good drama effect - if the ending did not steal all the attention with all the svck.
I wouldn't mind sending most of my squaddies to their deaths. So long as Liara and Garrus are alive I'm good. Kaidan can survive as well since he has actually grown a pair since ME1 and is no longer that whiny disgrace-of-an-officer.

I don't think they ever changed the ending they just want to wait a few months to bring out the real endings so they can make more money by:

Getting alot of attention on it, so people who wondered why the game ending was so bad will buy the game.

Possibly making us pay for the true ending.

-Indoctrinated Theory-

So no they didn't react to the fans because they have had the real ending all along, they have just been biding their time.

It's a move in the right direction, but it's just elaborating on what is already a crap ending. The multiplayer was free also, classic damage control,if it was not for the bad ending fiasco there is no way this would have been free.It would be interesting to know how many people blasted them for the ending then thanked them for the free DLC :yuck:

Wrong, wrong, and wrong again.
- First of all there was no changes to the ending planned. When the fans started complaining BW had to scrap its actual DLC projects for now and focus on the Extended Cut...
- ...which is free...
- ...and does not change the ending, only adds cutscenes and perhaps edits the current ones. It's still the same nonsense as before but with less plot holes and cliffhanger.

The indoctrination is just fan fantasy built on denial and cherry picking, there is absolutely no reason to assume it has any credibility.

Yeah sadly I have to agree. I do with the indoctrination theory would come to something but suspect it's going to be a lot more boring than that. ;) I know I said it before but I think they might have legal issues on their hands too unless they could prove they'd always intended to use that.

Thinking about the ending right...
Spoiler
What happens if you take EDI on the final mission and then choose to destroy synthetics?
Does she still appear out of the Normandy with Joker and the other companion?

The multiplayer would have been free anyway.

Know why? Those "item unlock" booster packs.
1) if you had to pay for the DLC, people would moan really hard about then being stuck with an RNG telling them when they got to use the new classes/weapons.
2) they already have an MP revenue stream in that impatient people with too much disposable cash can spend $$$ to buy those booster packs.

Jokers eyes are freaking me out.

Free = damage control. The extended ending was not planned, in it's place would have been a paid MP DLC or some such.

I see plenty of evidence the only evidence against it was cherry picking.

Will just have to wait and see if it is free.

Wishful thinking, you really think that last multiplayer DLC would have been free if the ending was fine???I think you are forgetting this is EA we are talking about. As for the multiplayer I wouldn't go near it myself, the Mass Effect series was never about mindless multiplayer it's a shame they lost sight of what really mattered.

Ha,wave after wave of AI with the intelligence of a goldfish, lack of PVP(could be hard to balance but could be done). Please any run of a mill MMO has better multiplayer so does any FPS for that matter or RTS.

You'll be in for a treat with the 1st Two, I won't say more on the 3rd, you'll have to play it for yourself.
