Patch 1.2 Unofficial Thread

Post » Tue May 22, 2012 2:44 pm

Thank you! I couldn't tell which mod was causing this, just that the game only worked when I deactivated them! :celebration:
On another note, when did they decide to use Comic sans as a font? Before the patch it was a normal looking font and now its Comic sans? Is it the patch or my computer?

Whee! Confirmed, removing this mod gets the menu back!

I had set Steam onto offline mode earlier today when I started reading the problems with 1.2

Ive just launched the game with no problems at all, through the 4GB launcher. Steam was still in offline mode and the ingame menus show 1.1.21.0

Guess Im safe

Mods make it a sticky. Tell people to remove their mods, and then turn them on one by one. Some mods were made without using CK and they may cause crashes and bugs, especially the crafting mod mentioned. On another note, I haven't experienced any left-clicking or any sort of click issues at all. With mouse & keyboard the game worked fine for me.

I was having the same issue as many other people in that my main menu wasn't loading. What fixed it for me was disabling the one mod I had (Val's crafting meltdown). It seems I can play the game fine and DR doesn't seem to be broken for me.
However, my performance has gotten noticeably worse since I updated.

Shyzar7 is correct. Vals crafting is causing the no menu issue.

On another note, why is my mouse no longer working in the game? I can not look up or down? I can look side to side...

I'm glad you guys got yours sorted out. :foodndrink:

But as I said in my post, I have no mods installed. However, while messing around with it, I did find one thing that worked for me. I deleted SkyrimPrefs.ini to let the game create a new one again (after already trying it once, even after verifying the cache integrity). For whatever reason it worked the second time.

Started playing and I don't see any more issues yet, but time will tell.

Edit: Spoke too soon, just got my first CTD in at least 3 or 4 days worth of playing. Happened while selling stuff at The Drunken Huntsmen.

Patched. Tried to start the game. Game started, no main menu options available. Just the dragon relic and smoke moving around. CTRL+ALT+DELETE to quit. Tried deleting ini files and then start. Same thing. Deleted both ini files and enbdev tweaks. Same thing. I can't even play now. Great patch, really... now I can finally get some sleep.

EDIT: Aha, disabling custom mods helped me get my main menu back. Too bad about the mods though, I loved being able to smelt my loot.

So anyone know why this happened, I don't think it downloaded a patch like that.
If you are using a modded exe, Steam will not recognize it and consider it a cracked exe, example would be the original TESV.exe having LAA set, the files checksum would be wrong, therefore Steam will not recognize it as legit.

me 2 :S

Well, I finished Vaermina's quest with it installed, and I didn't hit any issues.

It's kind of hard to play expecting something to go wrong any minute though.

- can't use fast travel or set map-markers
-can't put stuff into chests or boxes, neither can press "r" to loot everything from a dead enemy
-can't use my hotkey-menu (pressing Q works, but i'm not able to equip anything. need to go to the menu with "Tab" to equipp something..)

These bugs happen to me since 1.2, cannot confirm the other bugs like the resistance thing or dragon-spasmics, yet

I regret updating now. I didn't notice the resistance glitch or the ignore Armor DR, mainly because I didn't play enough to even experience those glitches.

The major gamebreaking glitch for me is one involving playing the game with an Xbox controller. I cannot select things in menus or dialog chatboxes.

When I press the A button nothing happens. The A button works out of menus and chatboxes though. The Y button, oddly enough, works for selecting things in the dialog chatbox, however it doesn't work in the menus.

Please fix this issue because I won't play Skyrim and operate its ill-conceived menus without an Xbox controller.

Some of my custom named weapons have reverted to their vanilla status.

it took me awhile to get across skyrim and test them all out, as my armor DR is broken, as I have been saying in this thread and others.

so I do hope enchanting has been fixed but the fix broke the previous ones that "worked"

Is uninstalling, putting save game on a flash drive, optimistic about the future... hopefully not too long to wait.
EDIT: my xbox360 controller has stopped working in chatboxes and in certain contexts

has anyone been successful with the roll back? I figure if it doesn't work, this game is coming off the hard drive anyways.

Shameful.

Uh yeah, why wouldn't I be angry about paying $60 for a game that's broken?

If Bethesda wants to have an open beta test where I don't have to pay money, fine. Break all the things you want. But when I spend good money on a product, I expect a working product at the time of purchase. Not 6 months later.

I agree with you. But it seems people have been programmed to "take it up the rear". Somehow bad quality and getting screwed over are considered good things, now. If I buy something, and it doesn't work, I want my money back. Or I demand that it be fixed in a timely fashion. A few months later is not a timely fashion.

The saddest thing of all is that you can pretty much guarantee that every game that comes out will need to be fixed. 100% guarantee. I don't know how this is acceptable to anyone. The only logical explanation is that kids are programmed in public schools to be slaves. No one can think for themselves anymore, or figure out when they're being used or cheated.

I forgot to put in Mod Testing in the OP, I have fixed that. However, especially as there is no Editor out yet, any mods can be suspect post patch.

Oh man, I can understand Rage and Skyrim...but why have you bought Brink? You deserve to suffer  Just kidding.
Anyway, for me the problem it's not the porting, because also PS3 and X360 have the same major bugs, but the real problem is that Bethesda seems not so "able" to programming games and make it runs good.
Splash Damage had a history of good games, so I figured Brink would be good too. It was the same deal with iD and RAGE. Each of their previous games was brilliant on PC. But Bethesda clearly destroyed them as publisher, just like EA destroyed so many other developers. RIP Splah Damage, iD, Bioware. Why I then assumed Bethesda could handle one of their own releases is beyond me.

Did you even try to remove mods before deleting game files?

As a side note, Gstaff posted in the comments section of the BethBlog on Monday that the PC version was being held over for a couple of extra days for testing and that was the reason why it wasn't being released at the same time as the PS3 update. After today I'm left wondering whether it would have been better to release it first and fix it later since problems like resistances disappearing and dragons flying backwards are not being noticed by the testers as potential regressions.

An update from Gstaff or someone else from Bethesda would be appreciated.

Summer, this is the PC Support forum, it's no place for rational thinking!

 My thoughts exactly. Its a total pain coming to this part of the forum looking for relevant information these days... and yet so many PC players accuse console gamers of immaturity. Oh, the irony. It would be nice to have pertinent details about the bugs instead of page after page of useless ranting...but that would be expecting far too much from these forums, in my experience. I'm sure Bethesda is stressed out to the MAX at this point...but so many people seem to comfort themselves with that the thought that they were deliberately and maliciously ripped-off by for some unknown and unfathomable reason... yes, its true, this wasn't a huge mistake, its clear that Bethesda is out to get us! Batten down the hatches!

Let's get back on topic now and just report what issues we are having with this patch in detail. Thanks.

LOW FPS!

That is the only issue I have. I get it whether I'm in 1st or 3rd person. The water, NPCs and trees all kind of stutter even if I'm standing still.

Everyone having issues with the latest patch is STRONGLY encouraged to completely erase the INI files and start from scratch. You'll eventually apply your tweaks later. Did so and haven't had any major issue in two hours. Still testing..

But really, we either detail our problems in a meaningful way or we rant. Which one will likely be result in results?

Someone posted yesterday that WE aren't very good at communicating with Bethesda; that bug reports should be brief and to the point. Just tell them what the problem is and let them sort it out. Don't write ten page manifestos moaning about the greedy company or long dissertations trying to figure out the cause of the bug. Just list it and let it fly. Let them handle it.

While I understand this and agree in part, I also don't think it's our responsibility to have to test their game. We paid the $60 or more for it. As a community, we'll have shelled out tens of millions of dollars before it's all said and done. That is Bethesda's compensation (and profit!) for all their hard work. But they expect us to be their testers too?

Maybe not. But IF not, then it shouldn't matter whether we detail our problems in a meaningful way or rant. And speaking of ranting, it's a good way to get the point across that we're mad. Simple, to-the-point, robotic bug reports aren't exactly the cyber-equivalent of an angry horde of customers banging down their doors. And I think at this point that's what they need. How did the first people to get the patch discover the game-breakers in a matter of minutes, if Bethesda truly tested it? This patch would've been broken whether the community ranted or not. We had nothing to do with it. It was a horrendous release and it is ALL ON BETHESDA.

They're clearly negligent here, and as the creators of the game, the onus is on them to fix it, not on x-million individual users (and paying customers) to properly and effectively communicate their bugs in a professional and meaningful way. To expect that would be folly.

Two issues at my end

(1) Main Menu does not have any options in it after loading.

(2) Thankfully experience had me back up the old .exe, which solved the main menu problem. However once in game, the keyboard does not respond to any keys when in-menu (i.e press "tab" during a conversation does not exit the conversation).

Update
Managed to fix the keyboard issue by resetting the keys using the Skyrim Advanced Keymapper

Quick traveling is broken. I'm opening the map, left click on location and map just closed. The second issue with the map is the quest journal. Open the map then open journal and click on the quest. The journal get closed.

Another reports:

If you find your post missing from this thread, it's more than likely deleted as off topic. We will delete rants with no bug report/issues reported as off topic in hopes to now keep this thread clean for devs to review.

I've been applying for beta tests and testing games for years... if Bethesda would allow people to test their games before release, they would be so much better. We wouldn't even be having this discussion right now.

My mouse issues were resolved by deleting my skyrim.ini. Funny how the changes worked just fine in one version, but are fubar in the next...go figure. Now to disable all the mods and play vanilla again....yay...
