Patch 1.2 Unofficial Thread

Post » Tue May 22, 2012 10:25 pm

Yes, of course it takes time and all that and I may be ignorant concerning the inner workings of the bug testing/QA department, but I still fail to realize how fixing what they did(supposedly) would cause Elemental Damage Resistance to get removed or bugged.

I just dont understand that.

Besides the fact that I can not store things in the trunk, I noticed that did not work fast moving ...

Same problem as the rest here....gui interface is gone. There is a GameoverlayUI.exe that runs while skyrim is running. Am I to assume this is part of the issue?

Don't tell me they used flash to build the gui interface for this game??
The game's using Scaleform so yes, the UI's made in Flash, the bane of the Web. Pretty sure the GameoverlayUI.exe is just the Steam overlay, though.

Just downloaded it. Now I'm scared.

same here :(

Is there a link to the old Skyrim.exe file so we can rollback to 1.1?

No, it auto-updates; mine updated an hour ago and I haven't started the game yet.
If Steam is running in the background, this will happen.

I fully understand that fixing a problem is difficult... but when they released a patch with known major bugs, that logic escapes me.

No need for rage, but this is different from asking for patience for a fix, because they knowingly released a patch that broke more than it fixed (at least I think functional magic resist mechanics is more important than dragon corpses laying around).

GameoverlayUI.exe is the Steam in-game overlay. That .exe process runs alongside every game you run through Steam that supports the overlay, not just Skyrim. So no, that .exe is most likely not your issue.

You can disable the Steam in-game overlay and see if that changes anything, just as a test, but I doubt it will fix your problem. In Steam, go to the Steam dropdown menu -> Settings -> In-Game tab -> untick the "Enable Steam Community In-Game" box.

Shyzar7 is correct. Vals crafting is causing the no menu issue.

On another note, why is my mouse no longer working in the game? I can not look up or down? I can look side to side...

I want to be honest, I've gained fps. An average of 3-4 fps. I confirm the Magic Resistance bug, but I've not noticed others. Also a little bug when you want to make a quick travel. For me it work, but when ask to confirm if you want to travel to a place, in the answer there is a mistake. It's writing S instead of Sì. Italian for Yes.

Ok, it's always rough when new patches come out and cause problems. It is however awesome when a month or so passes and the big patches come out and fix a multitude of things and people are once again happy. And that has always happened to the extent that most are happy with the game.

The impatience of members astounds me. I'm not sure anyone releases a perfect game and a game of this size always has many issues that come to light when millions of people are first getting it. I always like to jump over to the spoilers section where folks are playing and enjoying the game to give me a reality check. Fortunately for me, Skyrim has been my most stable Bethesda game to date. I had issues with MW, Daggerfall and Oblivion upon release and I've had little to none with this one. So far my only problem has been my character walking around with an arrow through her head or ice shards hanging off her back and head.

I always hope for issues to be quickly resolved but understand it takes much time. The devs have to collect data, recreate the problems and find solutions followed by testing and approvals from sony and microsoft to issue patches and sometimes the patch causes other problems. No different than many other companies and their games upon release.

I'm a cup half full person who has much patience and I am of the belief they will stand behind their game until they have sorted out issues and am patient enough to await that moment. Wish I could spread some of that demeanor to others but I can't so I'll just share my strawberry pop tart with you all.

I have to agree with Summer, I haven't downloaded and won't seeing all the issues, but those of you who have would better serve the community by leaving this flamefest, play the game and post useful bug reports.

/\ if they skip waiting for console cert.(to patch PC) they will take a bunch of flak from the console crowds.

the legit approach to take would be to split the patch teams up into platforms and have them debugg without politics in mind.

PC patches can be worked through 2-10x as fast as console, for the main reason of cert. regressions, which unbelievable don't even look at new issues caused by the added data, only what you are addressing.

bearing in mind console cert is more about litigious nature of our consumers and pandering to ESRB.

This is a huge, major problem. This isn't a minor problem like NPCs showing up to a wedding dead. This is game-breaking, unable to play the game bad. Some people can't even see the Continue/New Game buttons. This certification process is causing everyone to go into a panic, and they honestly have every right to be because we shouldn't' have to go through a cert process to fix something this broken. You can't make it anymore broken =P

I just want confirmation that we won't have to go through another very long certification process for the patch.

Considering how bad this patch was for many users after a fortnight of working on it, the next one will have to have a much longer QA process especially since this patch started breaking a bunch of other things in the game. I just hope they give a roll-back option for people that were more stable on the previous version.

I don't think anyone has wondered why people are angry. To the contrary, they are telling us that they will continue to monitor the forum and continue to work on peoples issues. Of course the anger is understood. But really, we either detail our problems in a meaningful way or we rant. Which one will likely be result in results?

They don't seem to understand that if they just communicated better with us, there'd be less rage. But either way, this is turning into an absolute disaster.

Just to chime in with my two cents worth.

So I start up Steam and click Skyrim, like a normal start to my day. It's first window pops up with play, options, data files, etc. Normal, I hit "Play" then blinks then reloads this same page. That is not right. Verify game cache. Okay, so there is an update. It installs....

And now the intro movie will play, the dragon stone will load, and smoke will billow out from the ether. The problem is, my menu options never appear. I always thought patches were supposed to be a good thing.

TL;DR Update literally made me unable to play the game because the menu options are gone at the start of the game.

I get the exact same thing, how can they miss something like that?

And I had set steam to not update anyway :brokencomputer: guess I will go back to using the original exe.

Did they even address the low FPS in this patch?

Trust me I don't wanna be on these boards [censored]ing like the rest of you. I wanna be in Skyrim enjoying the game that I spent $60 on the day after release!

JUST FIX THE F'ING LOW FPS AND I'LL GO AWAY HAPPY!

You will get the update when you run the game. You should turn Steam into Offline Mode if you can.

I agree 100% with this. Didn't Bethesda learn their lessons from G4WL?

Same with me..

Game seemingly starts fine as usual. That is, until after the Bethesda logo finishes.. I get to what should be the main menu, with the dragon logo and smoke, but there is no text. At all. It doesn't freeze or lock up, the smoke continues to animate, but there is no actual menu. There is nothing at all other than the logo and the smoke. There isn't even any sound after the Bethesda logo. Tried verifying the integrity of the game cache but the problem persists. Running a vanilla install, no mods, no tweaks, nothing added... I've had very little issues up to to this point other than the usual graphical glitches and a few bugs here and there. Now though, the game is quite literally unplayable for me.

The same for me!
