Patch 1.2 Unofficial Thread

Eh..? My game downloaded the patch without me even starting Steam? What the heck?
Sounds unlikely... I mean impossible.

Same with me..

Game seemingly starts fine as usual. That is, until after the Bethesda logo finishes.. I get to what should be the main menu, with the dragon logo and smoke, but there is no text. At all. It doesn't freeze or lock up, the smoke continues to animate, but there is no actual menu. There is nothing at all other than the logo and the smoke. There isn't even any sound after the Bethesda logo. Tried verifying the integrity of the game cache but the problem persists. Running a vanilla install, no mods, no tweaks, nothing added... I've had very little issues up to to this point other than the usual graphical glitches and a few bugs here and there. Now though, the game is quite literally unplayable for me.

Yep... this is the one problem I've had though you stated it better than I did.

Has it been truly confirmed by a lot of other people concerning the Damage/Elemental Resistance bug? I havent loaded up my game since I heard about it on the forums.

Quite true... It's not bugged, it's broken... Put my "dragon hunting" gear on (ring with 52% resistances to fire and cold and boots with 52% shock and cold resits) on my Dunmer and the first flame breath turned me into a charcoal briquette.

Interesting. Didn't realize the patch was released this morning. Try to launch Skyrim and it wouldn't start. Shortcut to the .exe on my desktop said TESV.exe was missing. Checked the program files and my data folder was gone. /sigh - reinstalling from the disk...

Armor DR is broken for me,as well as moonwalking dragons, and elemental resistances, not sure if this is unique.

No mods, comp vanilla retail copy through gamesas, PC.

UGHHHHHHHHHH

roll it back fellas, temperance and humility is knowing when your wrong.

Also just my two cents but I'd like to see you guys working on broken progression like "the thane of riften" and "blood on the ice" instead of breaking more features.

This game without armor DR might as well be EA sports FIFA 2012 with no football.

Armor DR is broken too?

Oh FFS...

I had have Steam.exe running in the background, but I don't have anything open. All Steam windows closed. I suddenly got a pop-up saying the download is finished. Why the heck did this happen? I thought it would happen just when you had the window opened and had activated the patch download.

Steam hotfixes should be fairly fast to submit and get live, if Bethesda has one in the works. PS3 and Xbox on the otherhand... I feel sorry for you guys.

No, it auto-updates; mine updated an hour ago and I haven't started the game yet.

Yeah dude... the Steam interface doesn't have to be open for it to update games.

I dunno about hotfixes. To be honest, the way Bethesda handles this certification process we're looking at 2 weeks for the next patch.

One of the selling points of Steamworks is that you can push things whenever you want, there is no cert process. http://steampowered.com/steamworks/

So, yeah; hopefully they will push some hotfixes today for PC.

for me it certainly is and now I'm contemplating putting my hand into a pencil sharpener.

I know its a bad idea, but I just can't help myself.

Kind of like releasing a known broken patch, that obviously someone bribed through console certification and didn't look at since before thanksgiving holiday.

Link to the release notes in the OP is broken - Edit: Cool, you spotted it :)

PS did anyone catch my previous post on page two ?

@ CCNA /\/\ it might be worth a mention

I think someone tried to update the link to the Bethblog Article on the patch, I will look into that. In the meantime, I put the link to the sticky release notes at the top top of the forum

I seriously hope not. This certification process is killing PC users and users of Steam in general.
Agreed. Bethesda needs to hurry up and released the CK so we can get some Unofficial Patches that actually work and get updated on a regular basis.

Also, I heard this patch breaks ENBseries. Is this true? It was the only way I could fix the 2-7 second stutter of doom in exterior cells.

Well while they're working on an emergency patch to fix the patch (sounds too much like Electronic Arts, was Bethesda bought out by them and we weren't told?)...
Maybe they can take a look at the mid-to-high level enemy archers and realize that they're all broken and do 1000+ damage with cheap bows and arrows.
And it would be nice if spell tomes had (known) next to them so you don't waste your money buying the same tome.

Well, on a lighter note. Apparently the X and Y rations being tied to FPS have been removed with the patch. I forced V-Sync off and havent noticed a difference. Moves like it should.

Yay. I guess.

C'mon guys, quit flaming and report your experiences with game-breakers like the resistence, dragon AI, and main menu bugs.

Edit: here's a great example post for the devs:
Patch 1.2 changes, in a quick test that i did:

Resistances have been nullified -> Summoned a fire atronatch -> killed with flames, Storm atronach killed with Thunderbolt.
Menu -> trade menu is a lot sharper and better. So far, i had not noticed (and i have been trying) to get out of the menu by misscliking. Conversation menu is bugged as soon as you exit the trade menu, and you will NOT be able to scroll through or highlight any other options, so you have to do it manually by buttons (basically stays the same as before, but at least the trade menu works fine).
Dragons -> Urk, i had no issues with dragons before. Dragons flying backwards? No, i take that over what i saw in my game. One dragon behaved fine, another was.... wow. It was spasming as it was flying, constantly flapping it's wings and making these minor turns, like a humming bird. Then, it started running away from me (okay i know i'm awesome but...), flying backwards. I ran about 3 minutes trying to catch it and it finally stopped. So i shouted (Dragonrend) to bring it down. It...it popped like a baloon, and flew across the screen, landing somewhere at a fort over yonder about 5 minutes of walk (couldn't see it on the screen anymore).

Performance-wise it wasn't beneficial or detrimental for me, no difference there. The esc key i will never use anyway, so that was a slightly pointless fix, i would agree.

Other than this, in my short play session, i have not noticed anything else that was majorly wrong. I did not get the time to check if projectiles go away, but i hope someone else can confirm that (it was just annoying). In any case, i don't know what went wrong with the patch Beth, but if this revert is true, please put it back to 1.1 . I didn't have that many gamebreaking bugs to begin with.

I only played for 5 minutes after the patch. Indoors in the mages quarters.

I went to level up. The 'level up screen' was bright pink this time (note, not purple). This never happened before.

I pressed F12 to take a screenshot, and bam, crash to desktop. My screenshot didn't get saved :(

...

Now... let's try again...

Just to chime in with my two cents worth.

So I start up Steam and click Skyrim, like a normal start to my day. It's first window pops up with play, options, data files, etc. Normal, I hit "Play" then blinks then reloads this same page. That is not right. Verify game cache. Okay, so there is an update. It installs....

And now the intro movie will play, the dragon stone will load, and smoke will billow out from the ether. The problem is, my menu options never appear. I always thought patches were supposed to be a good thing.

TL;DR Update literally made me unable to play the game because the menu options are gone at the start of the game.

Same problem as the rest here....gui interface is gone. There is a GameoverlayUI.exe that runs while skyrim is running. Am I to assume this is part of the issue?

Don't tell me they used flash to build the gui interface for this game??

I just want confirmation that we won't have to go through another very long certification process for the patch.

I was having the same issue as many other people in that my main menu wasn't loading. What fixed it for me was disabling the one mod I had (Val's crafting meltdown). It seems I can play the game fine and DR doesn't seem to be broken for me.
However, my performance has gotten noticeably worse since I updated.

Yeah, just in case it isn't clear enough by now, remove automatic updates for this game. The in-game menus are completely unuseable for me even though the patch claims to have fixed problems with key remapping (Esc key makes me walk forward, doesn't open the main menu, and the "A" button on my controller doesn't work in menu, although all the other buttons work fine). Does anyone know a way to get the unpatched version when using Steam? I figure not, but thought I'd ask.

By the way, I knew something like this would have to happen since I didn't have any technical issues on day 1 besides occasional crashes and textures not loading for shaders. But, the game was definitely playable, and now it isn't and I'm sad.
