Skyrim Dead is Dead Thread IV

Flavius has drank the blood of Aela. He turned into a werewolf and attacke a whiterun guard. He later woke up outside with Aela, who helped him understand his new powers as a lycanthrope. The two then went after the silver hand, who had killed skjor. Fortunately, Flavius remember some old forgotten powers he absorbed from the soul of a dragon, and was able to channel all his feral energy into a spell that succeeded in resucitating Skjor. Later, Flavius followed up on Sybile's tip about vampires in a cave near Dragon Bridge. While battling these vampires, Flavius felt a change in himself. His prior time as a vampire, the new wolf's blood coursing through his veins, and his dragons blood, all seemed to merge, and accept the vampirism disease once again. Three days later, Flavius Aetius began his life as an even more unique individual: the dragonborn, werewolf and vampire, and all the strengths and weaknesses this rare form entailed.

Tirdas, 18th of Last Seed, 4E 201

Today I reached Whiterun. It's quite a big city, protected by stone walls, and has got an ancient feeling that instantly catched me. After telling the guards that I carry important informations from Helgen, I rushed to Dragonsreach, the city castle. It was a truly mighty sight. After convincing the Jarl's houscarl that I carried no threat, I was introduced to the Jarl, Balgruuf the Greater. He seems a nice guy, an unusual thing for such a powerful person. He thanked me for carrying those information, and agreed to send troops to defend Riverwood. He then asked me if I could do a quest for him and his court wizard, a fellow named Farengar Secret-Fire. It consists in retrieving a certain Dragonstone from... Bleak Falls Barrow. Again. It gave me the shivers to hear that name again. It seems like the stars which draw my path are leading me there. But I really don't want to venture into those ruins! Yet, there was no way I could refuse a mission from the Jarl, so I just put it aside in my mind and took my leave. Well, not before buying some spell books from Farengar. I am sure that magic will be a huge help in the days to come.
So, I spent the day exploring the city, taking a look here and there... This seems a very nice place to live. I think I'll settle down here! There are some Battle-Born folks who I do not like very much (imperial scum, if I am to say it all!), but there are also the Gray-Mane, who seem to be nice guys. I helped out one of them by retrieving information about his brother, which is being held captive by [censored]in' Thalmors, it seems. He asked me to join him in freeing this guy, but the place's on the other side of Skyrim, and I do not feel ready for such a journey. Maybe later. Now, the most striking feature of this city is Jorrvaskr and its Skyforge. Jorrvaskr is the hall of the Companions, the heirs of the Five Hundreds led by the legendary Ysgramor. They are fierce, but honorable warriors. They earn their livings by performing dangerous missions for those who ask. "Heck, that would be an awesome way of living!", I thought. "I would be able to put my talents to good use, and live an adventurous and nice life! Let's see if I can join". So I entered Jorrvaskr, and asked if they were to let me in. At first they seemed quite negative, but then they took me in front of their Harbinger (which seems not to be the leader in the usual sense, he just... advices everyone), and he looked me in the eyes, and it was like he was peering into my soul. Peculiar man indeed, this Kodlak Whitemane. He seems to be so much... Wise and kind. It's quite strange if you think he's a mighty warrior, for sure. But I definitely like him. So, he decided to give me a chance, and let Vilkas (one of the members of the Circle, the elite group of these guys) put me on trial. It seems I passed, and so I was accepted among the Companions. They gave me a place to sleep (too bad I already booked a room at the inn!) and said I could start working for them. But before I can call them my family, I am to prove my honour. When the time comes, they'll let me know. For the time being, Farkas (Vilkas' brother) introduced me to people around and showed me my bed. I was striken by Aela the Huntress, who I spotted taking down a mighty giant right before entering the city. She has to be a great warrior indeed. But that wasn't the only thing that I noticed. She is quite... intriguing. I'd like to get to know her better, but as for now she's almost ignoring me. In her eyes I am probably just one of the many newcomers.
I spent the rest of the afternoon taking a closer look at shops in the city, and I met Adrianne Avenicci, who owns a a forge called the Warmaiden's, named after her it seems. She claims to be the second best smith of Whiterun, the first being Eorlund Gray-Mane of course. He is the legendary smith who forges the weapons of the Companions using the Skyforge, the thousands-year old structure which rises next to Jorrvaskr. Its dicovery let to the construction of Whiterun itself! Maybe one day I will be allowed to have a weapon made of that legendary steel: they seem to be the best weapons I have ever seen in my life! Anyway, Adrienne was really kind to me, and let me use her forge to practice my blacksmithing skills.
While I was browsing around the shop, I met this woman Carlotta Valentia who apparently needed some help in dealing with a bard who was harassing her, trying to seduce her. So I confronted him in the Bannered Mare where he works. He seemed to be very stubborn about the subject, and was so full of himself that I could not resist teaching him a lesson. Ha, and he calls himself a nord! Bet he will not be able to play anything with his mouth for a while! He so agreed not to bother Carlotta anymore.
Satisfied for the achievements of the day, I am going to order some deer ribs and some meads, then I'll go to bed.

Middas, 19th of Last Seed, 4E 201

Today I did my first work for the Companions. There was this guy in Riverwood, Faendal, who was annoying a client, and so they asked me to intimidate him into stopping it. By the way, that was the same guy who asked me to give a fake letter to Camilla Valerius, the sister of the local trader. He was trying to mislead Camilla into refusing the attentions of Sven, the bard at the inn. Now, I don't usually do this sort of things, but seriously... How good can a man be if he is not able to face his rival in love openly, and has to resort to these tricks? The fact that he was annoying someone further convinced me he is no good. So I set of to Riverwood, went to Sven, and told him what Faendal was trying to do. He asked me to deliver another fake letter to Camilla, this one signed by Faendal of course. I didn't really like this way either, but since Faendal was the one who started it, I ended up giving this last letter to Camilla. The result was that Camilla doesn't want to see Faendal ever again. He earned that. Sven was so happy about the news that he offered to join me in my travels. I kindly refused for now: he doesn't seem like he could be any good in a fight, and I don't want him to get killed for nothing. Now, I still had a job to complete, so I went to meet Faendal by the sawmill. Having heard what I did, he wasn' so happy to see me... Guess he will be even less next time, since I beat the crap out of him. As I expected, he agreed to stop it after this "treatment". Now, two brawls in two days, and I didn't get arrested... I start to like this place! On a side note, everytime I pass by Riverwood I get the shivers just at the sight of the ruins up there. It's a strange feeling. I'm definitely afraid of them, but there's something in them that attracts me. Kind of so. I feel like it's my destiny to climb up there. Well... Maybe another time, uh?
On my way back to Jorrvaskr, I met this redguard named Amren, who was looking for the sword of his father, which got lost. He said it was in a cave occupied by bandits, but as he assured me they were not too many, I agreed to look for it. So, after reporting to Farkas of my success with Faendal, I set of to this Redoran's retreat. It was the first time I wandered through the Skyrim tundra, so I was really careful not to fall into any ambush or get my neck bitten by some nasty animal. Inside the cave, I found some bandits, which I dispatched easily. But when the bandit chief got it on me, I had a hard time. I got beaten down a bit, but then my pride allowed me to rise on my feet again, and I charged yelling out my war cry. He got so afraid that he ran off from me! I chased him and stuck my blade in his back. "That's why you're just a slimy bandit, coward!". I looted the place, and I found the missing sword. Back in the city, Amren thanked me and showed me some tricks with the sword and the shield, which he learned from his father. Redguards are amazing warriors indeed, these techniques are going to help me a lot!
So, after selling the loot and buying some more spell tomes from Farengar, I had dinner at the inn and then went to my bed in Jorrvaskr, in order to rest.
Tomorrow is going to be a great day, but a dangerous one as well: Skjor has assigned me a mission with which I can prove my honour to the Companions, and fully become a member of them: I am to recover some fragments of Wuuthrad, the legendary axe wielded by Ysgramor himself, thousands of years ago. Farkas is going to be my shield-sibling during this assignment. He will watch over my back, ensure I do not get killed, and witness my work so that I can prove my honour. I'm going to sleep now, I am sure I will need all of my strenght tomorrow.

Ok so, I had a close call with the bandit leader, and had to resort to my racial power in order to defeat him. Other than that, everything is running pretty smooth. But the first Companion quest is going to be brutal, I know. There is a spot in which you have to fight several Silver Hands together, and I had to reload I-don't know-how-many-times during my other playthrough. I'm level 6 now and I know this quest might be the last one for Tyrig. Going to do that now, but it scares me as hell. Yet, RP-wise my character would do that now, so that's what he's going to do. Say good luck to the brave Tyrig! :biggrin:

Oh, come, don't think like that. Maybe on the lower level those guys won't be so tough. But I do know they are tough on higher level 20+. I was really getting my ass kicked on my shield-sword character at ~20.

Here lies Aerondil... Male, High Elf... Master Wizard...Novice Jumper.

As soon as he left the cave of Helgen's keep, he headed for the ancient standing stones. While jumping off the rocks to get down below, the fall was higher than he thought and he died.

Aerondil, Level 1, A life lived of legend. :confused:

So I've never actually roleplayed in an ES game OR done a DiD run... therefore, this is my first. I'll be going on Expert difficulty, and I will be playing a Khajiit Mage called Ja'Ixir... or Ra'Ixir, not sure which yet. I will be focusing on Destruction, Resoration and Alchemy. I will be joining the Mages College fairly soon, and apart from that I'll spend lots of my time killing Bandits. I will also follow two main rules: Dead is Dead, obviously.. and no fast travelling or using a carriage.

This is one of the best threads in the forum. The appeal and demeanor it had in FONV and Oblivion carries over into Skyrim. It shows that bliss can exist in a hostile forum.

jdeleski is doing a wonderful job with the mantle. Again, thanks to jdeleski for taking the helm and continuing a good thing in a pool of bad. I hope you will be able to extend the honor in DID V and beyond.

@ lorelai ; Good luck with what ever you come up with. I will be moving to the PC in a few weeks ( hopefully ). Using the cc to set the character up would be prime.

S'Kivir B'Eyt drove the Empire from Skyrim after a lengthy campaign, then turned his attention to dealing with the threat of Alduin. Somewhat to his surprise, he discovered he would have to suborn one of Alduin's 'lieutenants' in order to find him, which presented something of a problem as he had no idea how he was going to capture a Dragon without killing it in the process. Then it hit him: if you want to catch a dragon, who better to ask how than another dragon? Following this insight, he went to ask Paarthurnax if he knew of a way to accomplish this.

As it turned out, he did: Dragonsreach, the Whiterun palace, had what he needed, namely a huge wooden collar designed expressly for the purpose of restraining a dragon. This information was very useful to S'Kivir B'Eyt, as the new Jarl of Whiterun owed him a few favors and would be fairly easly to convince to go along with the idea. He headed off to the palace, and after a short conversation with the Jarl got ready to spring the trap; sure enough, the dragon showed up looking for a fight, and after a brief skirmish was lured into position and the collar dropped onto him.

Upon questioning, the dragon, Odahviing, offered to reveal the needed information in exchange for his release; this gave S'Kivir B'Eyt pause, for he knew well the destruction an unbound dragon could wreak upon the palace, however after managing to wring a concession of temporary allegiance from Odahviing he agreed to release him in exchange for the information. Odahviing then revealed that Alduin had gone to Sovngarde, to feast upon the souls of the dead in order to regain his strength after the battle at the Throat of the World. To get there, he said, required going to Skuldafn, Alduin's Dragon Temple and connection with the land of the living. he also offered to take S'Kivir B'Eyt there after being freed, as he no longer wished to serve Alduin. S'Kivir B'Eyt then freed Odahviing from the collar, in accordance with his end of the bargain, and the two flew off to Skuldafn.

They arrived at Skuldafn, only to discover the place was overrun with Alduin's Draugr servants as well as watched over by four of his Dragon allies. Odahviing then mentioned that he could go no further, as he could not yet take direct action against Alduin's followers, so S'Kivir B'Eyt set off towards the temple by himself. The Draugr were fairly easily dispatched, although Alduin's Dragon allies occasionally interfered and had to be put down. The first two were killed during separate attacks along the temple's perimeter, while the second two attacked simultaneously after S'Kivir B'Eyt emerged from the temple itself onto the upper terrace. The latter fight was rough, what with one using breath attacks from behind while he was dealing with the stronger of the two; fortunately the first one never closed to bite range, which gave him enough time to recover and finish it off. Ascending the steps to the top of the temple, he saw Alduin's last ally, a Dragon Priest, reaching for the staff planted in a hole in the temple's roof. Knowing from experience what those Priests could do with those staffs, he quickly nocked an arrow and fired, drilling the Priest through the middle of the back. He then went forwad and discovered that the staff was keeping open a portal to Sovngarde, which answered how Alduin had managed to keep disappearing and reappearing. Steeling himself for the final battle, he jumped into the portal, determined to defeat the World-Eater once and for all.

Upon arriving in Sovngarde, S'Kivr B'Eyt discovered that the whole place was covered with a dense, fog-like mist; blasting it aside with the Clear Skies shout he had used to reach Paarthurnax, he strode forward only to discover it was coalescing as rapidly as it had dispersed. After a couple more shouts a figure clad in Stormcloak armor came running up, telling him that the mist was Alduin's doing and that going further was too dangerous. He continued onward anyway, blasting away the mist as he went and encountering the spirits of a few of the people he'd been forced to kill during the civil war, who didn't seem to mind that he'd sent them there. Eventually, he came upon a bridge made of Dragon bones and it's guardian, Tsun, who tested all who sought entrance to the Hall of Heroes. After expressing surprise at seeing one of the living in Sovngarde, Tsun then asked S'Kivir B'Eyt why he was there, to which the latter answered that he was there to destroy Alduin and wished to enter the Hall to seek potential allies. Tsun, of course, said only the worthy may enter, and that he determined who was worthy by trial through combat. He then drew a huge sword and attacked, throwing S'Kivir B'Eyt off balance, but the latter managed to get some space, drew, and fired, with the resultant strike apparently being sufficient proof as Tsun sheathed his sword and stepped aside, while mentioning there were three in the Hall eager to take the fight to Alduin.

S"Kivir B'Eyt then entered the hall, where he was greeted by Ysgramor himself, who directed him to the three he sought. After explaining to them why he was there, they held a short conversation among themselves and then agreed to join him in banishing Alduin from Sovngarde. The four then left that hall and crossed the bridge, only to run into more mist that had replaced that which S'Kivir B'Eyt had cleared on his way in. Clearly, one person could not clear it, but perhaps all four together could. So they shouted, and the mist rolled back, but then Alduin shouted and the mist returned. Twice more this exchange went on, then on the fourth exchange Alduin came flying out of the mist looking for a fight, determined to punish those who dared oppose him. Unfortunately for him, he was outnumbered and overpowered, so the fight, though fierce, was brief, and ended with Alduin dissolving before the eyes of the four victors, while bellowing threats in Dragon-tongue.

Tsun then approached, and, after congratulating the four for vanquishing Alduin, addressed S'Kivir B'Eyt directly, saying that he would be welcome in Sovngarde when he returned, but that it was time for him to go back to the land of the living, where he belonged and where Tsun could send him. Being more than ready to go back, he asked Tsun to send him thus, whereupon he appeared on the Throat of the World and saw an amazing sight: six dragons were sitting on the rock face, awaiting his return. When he approached them, each one addressed him in the Dragon tongue and then lifted off into the sky, until only Paarthurnax was left. Paarthurnax then spoke to him in turn, congratulating him on his victory yet expressing regret that said victory had cost Paarthurnax his brother. Paarthurnax then said that he would try to teach the other Dragons his Way of the Voice, and hopefully teach them peace in the process. He then flew off, and after a short while Odahviing landed and spoke to S'Kivir B'Eyt in turn, saying that he was not interested in Paarthurnax's 'tyranny of the Voice', but that he would seve S'Kivir B'Eyt as the latter had proven the power of his Thu'um, and he would come when called if at all possible. He then flew off as well, leaving S'Kivir B'Eyt alone atop the Throat of the World, pondering his course of action.

I agree! Thank you jdeleski for continuing this great thread!

Thank you for the wishes! I actually have to restart my vampire. I went through all the starting scene, cc tweaking and dungeon "tutorial" and I made an Imperial lady (I really wanted the Voice of the Emperor), cleared Embershard mine to make it as my first base, went through all the phases, just to see that my Imperial stage 4 vampire now looks like a Redguard! Aghhh! I really want a pale-looking vampire. So I did some digging, and apparently the Imperials and Bretons actually turn darker-skinned when they become vampires. And those were the 2 best races for me as a vampire.
Now I'll have to start with a Nord. The racial resistance is useless, I already have frost resist as a vamp, but I really want the pale skin.
Also, my eyes remained the same (or even darker) so for some reason I didn't get the glowing-red-evil vampire eyes. :sad: Maybe it's because of a mod...but the only mod that I'm using(that modifies the character) is the Xenius Character Enhancement...
I'm seriously thinking about cheating...make a Nord, go vampire, remove the Racial ability (Battle Cry) and add the Voice of the Emperor...I don't know what to do...maybe it's not fair...all I wanted was an Imperial Vampire with pale skin. Why can't I have that?

My first ever dead is dead character! Loving it so far... Just want to share my character and this little episode:

Mhaik-Mhaik
Born: ~15/Jan/2012
Died: Not today. But probably soon.

Mhaik-Mhaik (named after a character from 'The Wire') is a Redguard Warrior, favouring light armour and a mace. Having made it to Riverwood, he heaped out Faendal with a little deception. Then he felt so bad about deceiving Camilla that he agreed to help her lazy brother by retrieving the claw. A little nervous about what might lie in the barrow, Mhaik leaned on his new friend Faendal to provide backup.

The barrow was mostly a cakewalk: Mhaik's sneaky bow attacks made short work of Bandits and Draugr. But unfortunately during a chaotic fight with a couple of Draugr, Mhaik was momentarily confused by a blur of movement, and sunk an arrow into the foe's neck. Then he realised with horror that it was Faendal. He yelped something like "No! not like this!" and keeled over. There he lay, a nice steel arrow sticking out of his throat.

Sorry Faendal, but dead is dead!

That's strange...Both of my Imp vamps were / are pale. I made them as pale as possible in the creator. They stayed that way. The cheeks drew in a little and the eyes are yellow. I understand that the yellow eyes are standard for Skyrim.

No shame in altering your char to have the wanted effects. If I was on PC I would do the same.

Kick ass!!!

I don't know what's going on...if she's pale from the get-go, she'll turn darker, if I make her skin darker she'll turn just a little bit paler. I've seen others have this problem too...
Thank you for the encouragement! I'll make a Nord-Imperial combination. :biggrin:
Will post details. I think this is going to be a very exciting and quite different playthrough!

Didn't get very far on Kasil yesterday.

Kasil heard of a mine just south of Riverwood and decided that he would go and see if he could get some ore or maybe get a few days worth of work in for some more cash. However as he approached the mine, what he thought was a standard guard or worker, pulled his weapon and attacked Kasil. So with no choice left, he cut him down in a swift flurry of his blades. Then he entered the mine.

Things were no better in the mine as it was infested with bandits. Well this just wouldn't do, thought Kasil, can't be having bandits this close to the nice people of Riverwood. So, he proceeded to meet out his own brand of justice and had soon cleared out the mine. He collected the valuables he could find and mined some ore before returning to Riverwood.

After returning to Riverwood, Pahldus sold off the valuables and put in a half a day's worth of work at the lumber mill. He left though early enough to make it Whiterun before dark. He encountered a wolf not too long after leaving but quickly dispatched it. Then he came across an Imperial patrol with a Stormcloak prisoner in hand. Not wanting to be captured again he steered well clear. He then made his way to Whiterun without incident and went straight away to see the jarl. After that he headed to the inn for a night of rest before continuing his adventures.

Ok, I managed to start my character.

Name: Lilith
Born (as child of the night): 3E420 - aged 28 --- Died (for good): Still kicking
Race: Nord-Imperial Hybrid --Nord with the racial abilities of Imperial (because the game won't let me have a pale-skin Imperial Vampire)
Illusion, Sneak, Archery, a bit of One-Handed, throw in some Alchemy, no armor.

Stage 4 Vampire only.
Boy, oh boy, oh boy this is hard! But fun and really exciting at the same time!
I took over Embershard mine and quickly made myself a vampire. After reaching stage 4 I decided I must do some shopping. I really need that Calm spell.
Yeah, nice. Entered invisible mode into Riverwood, snuck inside Riverwood trader, Calmed (with VotE) Lucan and Camilla, and realized that the trip was useless. I forgot that Lucan does not have the Calm spell. Sold my stuff then decided to backtrack to my base.
Hoho! But because my sneak skill is crap, everybody saw me coming out and they all went berserk: Burn the vampire!! Kill it with fire!!! I barely escaped them, considering that I don't have regen in the sunlight so my stamina was down pretty fast.
Now I must figure out a way to get that calm spell...

Farengar in Whiterun sells it, although getting to him may prove a bit tricky. I'm pretty sure there's a copy of the spell book lying around in a dungeon, but I can't recall which one off the top of my head. Situations like yours are why I'm going to make sure I have such spells before becoming a vamp, as otherwise it's just too annoying.

Well, that and I'll be playing on Master, so it'll kinda be mandatory if I want to actually live long enough to sell anything after entering a town.

I feel like the college in winterhold may also sell it. I also think the guy in the Riverwood Trader has a calm spell book.

I know what you mean about getting the spell before. I just wanted to be a vampire from day 1. No Master for me yet on this type, though with 40 hp in daylight and no armor I might as well go Master because Expert could kill me just the same.
I feel like the college in winterhold may also sell it. I also think the guy in the Riverwood Trader has a calm spell book.
Yeah, I went for the College, Lucan doesn't have it. Curse you Lucan!

Thank you! :hugs: When will you be joining our ranks, hmmm? Do a naked Nord one, I have a feeling you'll enjoy that! :evil:

Yeah, getting into Whiterun is a no-no. I have no idea how I'll go in there. All the NPC's are in their stupid scripted locations 24/7, won't sleep, won't eat - they are hardcoe! :biggrin: It's quite impossible to get past the Spiderman-senses Battle-Born and Adrianne right at the front gate. I had to run away again.
So I went to the college, by carriage. Puts me in the middle of town in broad daylight! Hoho, fun. I managed to run away. Sneak up on Faralda, calm her, and guess what she want's me to cast? Flame Atronach. :facepalm:
Luckily I had an Elsweyr fondue. I cast the flame atronach and surprise-surprise! It starts attacking the people in the town. Faralda goes crazy and attack my atronach while I sit sneaky in a corner hoping nobody will spot me.
Thankfully everything turned out well and now I'm a member of the College and I have my lovely Calm spell.
All in all, I can't say this is not exciting in a fun way. I thought it will be more stressful but I'm actually having fun.

Ha! I love it! Sounds like you are having a time of it. You were able to use VOTE on the Riverwood merchant? I can get it to work on Camy but not dude. I had to hit him with VServ. Smart thing making up some EF. That is one of the best food items. Anyway, glad you're on to a good start. I can't wait to hear about Lilith's adventures.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hands-On-briast entered Embershard from the rear entrance. This was a first for me. Looting the fallen Guards in Winterhold, she now has two Steel daggers.
ME : Do you think you are ready to take on a cave full of bandits? That's are a lot of them vs only one Imperial.
HANDS-ON-BREST : I am NOT an Imperial!
ME : You sure look like an Imperial. ( side note : A Drew Berrymore Imperial :drool: ) What are you then?
HANDS-ON-BREST : I...am...Shadowscale.
ME : But that's not...Oh well, you just go with that.
And she did. HOB went into stealth mode, extinguishing the sconce torches as she advanced. She is no newbie to the art of the unseen. She struck from the shadows with the swiftness of an Adder. One by one the bandits fell. It was truly a poetic and lethal ballet.
ME : Damn, who showed you how to do that?
HANDS-ON-BREST : His name was once legendary. He raised me under the name of Scratches-In-The-Wind. For many years he was known as...Scar-Tail. ( I know the timeline doesn't fit, but what the hell... )
Now with a ton of loot, we made it back into Riverwood to steal some steel ingots. She was under the night sky, but those DAMN KIDS must have monster-dar or something because they pick her up from waaay out there. We ere able to scarf the steel and make it back to the mine. She improved her daggers a little and worked on her Illusion skills until mourning. We slipped into town and dumped her loot at the trader. Basically just making a quick deal and running for our lives.
Now we had just enough gold for the Inviso spell. We went back to the college and picked that up. A little more practice and she was able to cast it fairly efficient. Armed with Calm, Invisibility and a couple of weak daggers, we set out for the long haul to Markarth.
Hands-On-briast can stay invisible 24/7 now and stays close to travelers along the way. Riding on their shirt tails, they usually take care of any wolves, bears, spiders and such along the way. This leaves HOB fee to loot the remains.
4 years, 3 failed marriages and 6 kids later, we made it to Markarth. OK...now what?
update: Flavius Aetius is still kicking, though has had some extremely close calls. He ventured into Potema's sanctum and slew her by himself. Fetched the jagged crown for ulfric. retrieved the ebony blade from the dragonsreach basemant, and even slew Madanach and his forsworn while they were in prison. Werewolf form came in handy here. Had to run for my life though, as when I emerged and Thornar Silver-blood thanked me and returned my stuff, I had become a stage 4 vampire, and EVERYONE was hostile. 2 invisibility potions and the vampire stealth power later, I successfully made it into breezehome, and fed off of Lydia. Flavius returned to Markarth, recieved much praise from all its citizens, even those who formerly tried to kill me for being a vampire, and picked up a quest from the Jarl to kill forsworn.
Turdas, 20th of Last Seed, 4E 201
What a day it was! After much struggle, I am finally a full member of the Companions. Farkas and I woke up early, and took off to Dustman's Cairn. I am happy to be venturing in there with him, as he's a mighty nord warrior, and I am certain that, as long as he will stay with me, our enemies will not have an easy fight. So, we arrived at the cairn, but before going in I wanted to explore a strange place nearby, which looked a lot like an old graveyard. As we stepped in, we got attacked by a couple of skeletons, but they were almost too easy to dispatch. But as we approached a bigger tomb, something different came off from it. It was... A frightening vision. It was similar to a man, but like if he had been completely dried up. Its eyes were no human though, they had a pale, unearthly light. Wielding a big, ancient-looking war axe, he charged at us. While I was a little shocked, and could do nothing more than raising my shield to protect me, Farkas tore the thing to pieces with a couple of swings from his powerful greatsword. Almighty Talos, am I thankful for having him on my side! He later explained to me that the nasty thing was a Draugr. They are zombie-like creatures which inhabit all the ancient nordic ruins. It seems like the old Nords were very skilled at preserving the corpses of their dead ones, and as a result Draugr can be much more powerful than usual zombies. He said that's what I should expect when I enter an underground ruin in Skyrim.
So, we stepped into the ruins, and we noticed that something strange was going on: it looked like if someone had already been there. There were draugr remains all around, and there were clearly many footprints in the dust. A little worried by this, we advanced cautiously, fighting some weak draugr on our way. When we found our way blocked by a gate, Farkas asked me to find a lever to raise it. I did find the lever, but as soon as I pulled it, another gate came down, effectively trapping me into a little portion of the room. Farkas was searching for a way to free me, when someone stepped into the room. There were five of them, all armed with refined weapons. They started yelling out things like "Your hour has come, beast!". Man, was I afraid! I felt completely powerless: they were too many. They were going get Farkas for good, and then I'd have passed the rest of my days trapped in that stupid ruin! But as they attacked Farkas... Something weird happened. Very weird. Farkas dropped his weapong and started... Shifting... Into something. http://i1048.photobucket.com/albums/s364/Deerber/enb2012_1_24_21_20_48.jpg Taller, bigger than a human being, entirely covered with hair, with long claws and jaws strong enough to cut a man in half. I'd heard stories about this sort of beasts... Werewolves. Farkas is a werewolf! Just a couple of seconds later, the attackers were lying on the ground, torn to shreds. Then, Farkas disappeared. He returned a few minutes later, after having raised the gate, and back in his human form. He explained how the members of the Circle are "blessed" with this power of transforming themself into powerful werewolves, and that that is the reason why the Silver Hand, a group of were-hunters, are constantly battling the Companions. The attackers were members of the Silver Hand, and we were probably going to run into many more of them. Yet, we bravely went on in our exploration. We fought our way through the ruins, killing several Silver Hands and countless draugrs.
Finally, we stepped into the main crypt. Wow, I had never seen such a big number of coffins all in one, single room. The place was crowded with them. It was giving me goosebumps... I had a bad feeling about that. But the most striking feature of the room was the big, black, curved wall at the very end of it. It was engraved with strange symbols, and adorned with a sculpture of a dragon head on the top of it. We moved closer, and while we were inspecting it, something very strange happened. http://i1048.photobucket.com/albums/s364/Deerber/enb2012_1_21_20_22_20.jpg, and upon examining it, I... I swear I could read it! It was so weird... This had nothing to do with any of the many writings I've come to know in my life: dwemer, ayleds, daedric... It was completely different from all of these. Yet, I am ready to swear that the symbol which I examined means "fire". I don't know why I know this, I just know it. Period. When I told Farkas, he just shrugged and told me to grab the fragments of Wuuthrad. But when I did that, Oblivion came down on Mundus. All of the countless coffins in the room were broken, and all kinds of draugr raised from their rest. Farkas and I fought bravely against a massively outnumbering enemy, and in the end we managed to break every single undead in the room. Again, I am so happy Farkas was with me: I could have never done that without him. It was a brutal fight indeed, but we came out as the winners. So, we left the cairn and headed back to Whiterun.
Here, we were greeted by Vilkas, who told me to follow him in the backyard of Jorrvaskr. http://i1048.photobucket.com/albums/s364/Deerber/enb2012_1_22_23_30_51.jpg The Harbinger formally asked Farkas if I proved myself worthy of the honor, and if he would raise his shield to protect me. He said he would gladly do so, and therefore I became a full member of the Companions. From now on, they will be my new family. A family in which bounds are based on honor and respect, other than mere blood. http://i1048.photobucket.com/albums/s364/Deerber/enb2012_1_22_23_34_38.jpg I wonder if Aela could look at me in a different way now... http://i1048.photobucket.com/albums/s364/Deerber/enb2012_1_23_0_13_20.jpg, as when I approached her she even offered me to fulfill a contract for her. I am to find a lair named Darkshade and clear it from the beasts which are causing problems to the surrounding settlements. I'll see what I can do about it. As I was leaving Jorrvaskr, I couldn't help but taking a last glance at Aela's delightful b-side.
One of the most exciting thing about being a Companion is that I have access to Eorlund's legendary weapons! First thing I did was going to the Skyforge and grabbing a handy skysword! I also bought a full suit of wolf armor, which seems the most popular choice among the members of the Circle. http://i1048.photobucket.com/albums/s364/Deerber/enb2012_1_23_0_32_6.jpg
After selling the loot I acquired in the cairn, I went to Dragonsreach in search for Farengar and his spell-books. While I was buying them, he reminded me that I still have to go to Bleak Falls Barrows to recover that Stone for him. Gee, all the events of today almost made me forget it... Not that I would regret such a thing. Yet, I gave him and the Jarl my word, and I am not one to let promises down just because he is scared. Well... Scared as hell, actually. But today's experience teached me that with some care, these ruins can be taken care of. Sure, there will be no Farkas with me in Bleak Falls... Actually, I wonder if I could find someone willing to come with me. But, no... I feel this is something I have to do on my own. I don't know why, it's just... I feel drawn toward those ruins, I already said so. So, I made my mind up and asked Farengar for directions, and for the reason why he needs this Dragonstone. It turned out he hopes to find important informations about dragons on it, maybe something which could prove useful if one of them was to attack Whiterun. Fool! I've seen such a beast in action, and I've seen what he's capable of: nothing can stop it! Nothing! I'll tell you what I'll do if a dragon attacks the city: I'll run! I'll run like if there's no tomorrow, and I'll hopefully live to tell the tale. I do not see myself as a coward, I actually think I am quite the brave man, but to stand and fight against such a creature is not courage: it's just suicide. Anyway... I'll set off to those ruins tomorrow
morning. Hopefully the time when we have to choose between fighting a dragon or fleeing, will never come. And Farengar will just be happy with the informations he can grab from the stone.
For now, it's time to rest.
Now, as you might have understood, I managed to pull the Dustman's Cairn through. It was not as difficult as I thought, not difficult at all actually. This might be due to my very low level. Another explanation is that, since I bought new speakers just a few days ago, and the old ones were crippled, this time I could actually hear the battle rumours coming from the Silver Hands and was able to realize that, when you enter the infamous "room with a bridge on the roof", they are actually battling the draugrs. This leads to Farkas percieving them as in combat and rushing through the halls to kick their ass... Or should I say, the get his ass kicked. If you, instead, wait in the antechamber for the battle to be over, you will then be able to sneak on the bridge, eventually taking down the remaining Hands with the bow. Or, even if you are more straightforward and just want to come down to them, you'll find some of them dead, and the other ones not organized and not together. It will be easy-picky.
Now, instead, I'm faced with another challenge: dragons. Hell, this is going to be really difficult, not as those Silver Scums. Not Bleak Falls Barrow itself, but the dragon right after that, on Master difficulty, and with Deadly Dragons loaded... Say good luck to the brave Tyrig, haha! :biggrin: It really bought luck the last time :wink:
I'm trying to add screeshots to make the reading more appealing. Thanks to Carpe Noctem for explaining how to do that! I only took a few of them, and with the HUD on, and in bmp format, and so on. Still a newbie, but I'll look into improving that side the next days. Hope you have fun reading Tyrig's adventures! :smile:
