Sniper-Hate in Brink?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 7:39 am

I hate getting killed by snipers, but they really deserve the OHKs. You all know how frustrating it can be when you land a shot someone from around a mile away and they just run behind a fence for 10 seconds and come back completely unharmed. They already get handicapped enough at close ranges. Why do you have to make it so they get mostly assists? No one is going to snipe in this game, which is just a waste.

Seriously, if you can get a head shot on some guy across the map, through a building, while he's sprinting, you deserve that kill.

FINALLY!!!! A person who hates sniper deaths but thinks that we deserve our kills. Everyone swears sniping takes zero skill but that's the complete opposite. You try sniping a whole game and tell us how easy it is then. Do you snipe at all Nate?

i voted hell no. but i really think its more that sniping jus doesnt fit the whole brink gameplay style. brink is suppose to be frantic running and shootin, not campin and snipin. the light rifles i feel do enough to cover the snipe happy fellows.

To me, it seems like all the complaints and suggestions that wanna-be-snipers have offered are in the game.

"They could have just balanced snipers" - they did, they no longer insta-kill

"The could have rewarded snipers for working as a team" - they did, if you knock someone down to 25% or even 50% health, that's an easy kill for your teammates. Stay together and it would be an effective combo.

"Snipers take skill" - they still do, if you can reliably hit people in the head with a short rifle, I'd love to have you on my team

"Snipers are easy to kill, you're a noob if you have trouble with them" - This is dependent on a few things. In general, the person with more skill is going to win, whether its the guy with the sniper or the guy without. If you get in close, snipers are usually an easy kill, but a good sniper won't let you get close. Either way, short rifles seemingly give an advantage to snipers, since they can actually be hip fired.

Most of the suggestions I've seen here point to what SD has already put into the game. People apparently don't want "balanced sniper rifles" like they claim, it's there already. They want a long range one hit kill weapon that has enough drawbacks to be considered "balanced".

I hope that's not directed to me in anyway. I for one like the way the snipers are balanced in the game and don't mind it being 2-3 shot kills as long as I get the satisfaction of helping take down an enemy and getting fairly rewarded for it. I just hate when people complain about all snipers being campers and having no skill.

I think SD has it worked out, but I still see potential for abuse. Imagine a light guy who just scales up a structure that other body-types cannot. He could just plug away at them as no matter what they do, they are out of reach.

It might be hard for them to be out of reach when everyone playing has guns which last i checked werent used primarily for melee combat.

You'll have to remember that the further you are from the objective, the less XP you get for dealing damage. Not sure if this is still in effect, but I do hope so.

Not really directed at anyone, I've been here a few months, and this topic comes and goes, always with the same complaints.

In my humble opinion you are wrong... amen.

Your still thinking of the annoying kind of sniper, being in the back of the map. (Still armed with a buffed bolt action rifle with incendiary ammo that bullet is going to hurt)

Light is the best body type since they can get to other spots that the other bodytypes can't reach.

As I said edge of map isn't going to be that helpful. He should be guarding one of 3 things:

1) An major objective
2) A CP
3) A high volume area of traffic

These are all the places that will see the most action. Now why the Engineer?

1. Weapon buff (the man with the golden gun)
2. Turret to guard your flank or the objective
3. Mines same thing
4. Kevlar armor

With the right location and turrets and mines this character will be quite hard to get to. Other that other snipers and indirect fire. The kevlar armor and a life boost will likely allow him to escape and regroup if attacked by other snipers. He can be resupplied ammo by either the CP or Soldiers (they got to get XP too)

For more useful and effective.

Seconded.

In my opinion you are completely wrong the sniping that SD is implementing has already been done before in a little piece of gold that i like to call APB no one shot kills not even headshots yet it was an unbelievably satisfying weapon to use and very effective ... and tons of people used it. (APB Reloaded what what !!!)

Lol, nope.

Dedicated killing class that can outrange everyone else, in MY team-objective based game?
'Git out.

However; humor me: Explain how you take a sniper (essentially a lone wolf) and make him able to complete team objectives; objectives that should no doubt require more than one person?

I fail to see the post where Waith justificates this.

No they took the hard way out. Also weapons are based on body type not class, hence making a sniper class is pointless. There are the short rifles that are for all intensive purposes sniper rifles.

Quoted from Wraith's first post.

Essentially, you can basically turn an engineer into a sniper; although I'd think that doing this would be negating most of your benefits to the team. Either way, I was talking about a sniper class in itself.

I quoted it literally like 4 posts above. I can elaborate on what he's saying if you would like. I had a post earlier on in this thread talking about the uses of a sniper in Brink. Alot of people in these forums have been complaining about the lone wolf or the guy thats just out for kills well the fact is yes this is an objective based game but in order to complete those objectives you are going to have to kill people. The type of sniping in this game is nothing new to shooters. Snipers dont one shot in APB nor do they one shot in BFBC2 unless you get a head shot (assuming you are playing on regular and not hardcoe). None the less they are used to great effectiveness in both games. Another use for the sniper in brink is reconnaissance as i stated in my earlier post. In Brink targeting an enemy spots them for your whole team somewhat similar to BFBC2. So while the sniper may not be as close to the objective as his teammates he his providing great cover , and assist fire along with making sure his teammates know where the enemy is via spots. Rooftops and camping spots or no rooftops and camping spots does not change the effectiveness of this kind of sniping.

Now let me open the eyes of those not blessed with a tactical mind. Though snipers dont 1 shot they still do quite possibly the most damage per bullet of any gun in the game. With that said have you ever thought about hitting an enemy with 1 sniper bullet severely lowering their health and then pulling out your secondary to finish them off? If the enemy was already injured theres good chances you will 1 shot them anyway. You dont need to camp or have huge range maps to be effective with a sniper. Every single shooter i play i run around with a sniper as if it were an AR and i do exceptionally well. I can also assure you i'm not the only one. If you dont understand this concept or just dont believe me i'll be glad to demonstrate May 17 on the Xbox 360.

Now before anyone else posts about how snipers wont work in brink or how they are ineffective and wont help teams complete their objectives please please please read this and enlighten yourself.

Oh, silly me, you're a quicksniper. How obvious. Please don't go and tell me that something like quicksniping takes any sort of skill or tactition (don't kid yourself, it's repitition and practice, like everything else in an FPS. Either way, that's not even what a sniper class is designated to do and wasn't even intended to happen in MW2 or BC2). Regardless of what you've just 'enlightened me on', it doesn't matter. You've not said a single thing that a would be sniper class could accomplish besides spotting people and taking them out. There lies your flaw. The current 4 classes (though some are more support roles than others), are ALL are able to important objectives that help move the team foreward. That's the point of classes. Each role has their own specific objectives they can complete. How about you enlighten everyone here on how a lone wolf that sits back is able to complete objectives that are actually able to move your team foreward?

First off you misunderstood i was never talking about a sniper "class" just snipers as weapons. I agree with most of the intellectuals in this thread that a sniper class is not needed. Secondly i was also not referring to "quickscoping" as that was a cod generated term and is based off 1 shot kills which out of the two games i listed in that post there isnt any. no it didnt take much skill to quickscope in mw2 but they made using a sniper pointless in black ops so currently it doesnt matter. And like everyone else you keep goin back to the lone wolf, as i was talking about snipers as a weapon and not a class that sniper guy i was referring to in my post would be one of the current 4 classes and again how would i not be completing the same objectives as everyone else when i am using my sniper like an AR and not sitting back with it...

Oh and on a side note though i do agree quickscoping in mw2 doesnt take much skill your telling me that a pro athlete who got where he is through repitition and practice has no "skill" .. i dont know what rock you have been living under but skill is gained through practice .. quit while your ahead man..

You need to meet new snipers.

There are quite a lot of team based snipers. That is not to say we will sit next to you while you do your thing, how silly would that look, but we are always covering teammates and/or objectives.

This has to be one of the funniest things I've read in a while. There are barely any team based snipers. It's a class for lone wolfs and thats why you will hardly find any team based snipers.

"Only if done correctly" That made me laugh.

It's obvious to everyone here on this forum even before you saw the results which way this was going. If you have any interest in this game and have been keeping up to date with this game I believe there are very few people here that are true sniper fans. Obvious these devs at SD want no part of sniper headache programing and I don't blame them either. If anyone has the answer to the above quote I would like to see you develop that game I just don't believe it's possible if it was it would already have been done. Talk and theory on how to do sniper correctly is always different then how it plays.

Guess what newsflash the defenders don't have to do objectives, except stopping the enemy from doing theirs or undoing it. My engineer/sniper would be most excellent in that regard and seriously you all need to chill.

Then I will simply repeat, you need to meet new snipers.

It is not our fault you either only play with guys that have no clue how to play or don't recognize what a good sniper is doing for his team.

There is a huge difference between physically being on your own and not playing as a team. Yes, most snipers don't stand around with their teammates, but positional distance from a team or objective is not an indicator that they are not with their team.

Obvious these devs at SD want no part of sniper headache programing and I don't blame them either.

Actually, based on everything they've put in the game I think you've misunderstood their intentions. They want nothing to do with the issues that arise when snipers become percieved as overpowered by the vocal majority.

Scopes are in, decent ranged rifles are in, being able to climb to the top of the world is in, directional gameplay is in. These are all features either intended for or beneficial to the "sniper" style.

SD wants everyone to be able to play and have fun, but they want everyone to be able to play uniquely and they've done quite a lot of work to include just about every player position in the game.

I suppose I won't speak for other "snipers", but hope the ones that I have recognized can agree. There are tools in place for us to do what we do in the way we do it with success and purpose, All I want out of the community (and the "Sniper-Hate" debate) on the subject is the same acceptance that I give you for playing the way you want to play.

edit jus read Mathonns post, i can agree with that. its jus SD is more or less changin the role of snipers to instead being killers to being support. its their way of gettin rid of the campers that want to rack up a big killin streak.
