The Dark Brotherhood... better in Skyrim or Cyrodiil?

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 1:42 pm

I never said he was smart. But showing up in your room was more arrogance than stupidity. He was just the most loyal to Sithis. The Shadowscale were also badass, in OB only, the one in Skyrim was a bit feeble.
Arnbjorn was a complete badass.

Cyrodiil, ALL because of the Black Hand.

I mean, WHY WAS THERE NO BLACK HAND IN SKYRIM? ;_;
Because Beth decided that the DB should be "falling apart" without giving any info on it. Just like, for some reason, the are no Shadowscales left other than that one Argonian. I mean really, you just introduced this new, cool, order of Assassins to us, and now you just randomly kill them off without giving us any info as to why? wtf

My take on the Dark Brotherhood is that they (or more accurately the leaders) manipulate the spiritual to suit whatever their needs are at the time.

Skyrim is an excellent example of where they head when things get tough. They dump their pretenses of religious authority and go with getting paid to kill both for personal pleasure and for the reasons of glory and reputation. Their ideas of 'family' are really about where misfit serial killers can go to feel accepted.

The Dark Brotherhood invented their ties to Sithis, when they wanted to justify killing for profit. The Night Mother is not Sithis, and probably has no real connection to Sithis. She was probably just another crazy person who wanted to kill all of her children. Sithis is something far beyond the petty intrigues and motives of the Dark Brotherhood, and I think if you feel loyalty to Sithis and wish to revere him (it), then you don't need to feel like you must join the Dark Brotherhood to do it. In fact, making sure they are all, or mostly, dead is probably the best way you could serve Sithis as a member of the Dark Brotherhood.

It was not "new" The DB has been around since Daggerfall, and the assassins form skyrim are more true to the original DB then the ones in Oblivion.

I do rever Sithis and my char joins the DB to do just that. When he sees the direction the DB is headed in, he wants to rectify it. That is how it plays out in my head.

When I said "new" I was refering to the Shadowscales, who I'm pretty sure were introduced in OB and then promptly killed off in Skyrim.

the oblivion dark brotherhood was way better. In oblivion, you felt like you truly was an assassin with the quests you were given. In skyrim,it was just lame killing and you had to do those inbetween quests of randomly killing people before you could go back to the main dark brotherhood quests.

If you read infernal city and lord of souls then you should know that black marsh was devastated, meaning there IS a reason why there is not more shadow scales.

With the DB in decline as bad as it is in Skyrim, it is no wonder the Shadowscale have depleted. They were supposed to be given to the DB at birth to train them. Without their existence, the Shadowscale would eventually die out.. How many would make the trip from Black Marsh to Skyrim to dedicate their young, since that is the last known Sanctuary.

Oblivion by far.

Spoiler
The Skyrim questline made me feel disconnected and caused nothing but hate for the leader that refused to believe in what made the DB. Namely the 5Ts and even more so the denial of her unholyness. BUT the real prune in my puddin' was having to conduct dialog with Three Dog again! OMFG Will I ever be rid of his ass!!?

I see where they were going with this and you were supposed to feel that way, but I just didn't like it at all. I tried to forego the questline, but I just can't stomach it. I wanted to do it just to kill Cicero, but alas that will never happen.

None..
The Brotherhood in Daggerfall was epic.. Hard to join, and once in you were screwed. If you ignored a mission for too long they started sending out assasins to kill you off instead for being a "deserter" pretty much.. Oh and you couldnt turn down a request, now you cant do that in Skyrim either but you can do other stuff to.. not end up there (Not gonna say anything)

There is information about it in one of the books, it tells the story on what happened to the Dark brotherhood and gives some pretty good clues on why it is in the current state. The first time I did the DB questline the story on what happened with them both in the past and as the quests was done was pretty clear. It isn't told directly to your face but there is enough pieces of information being given you to puzzle together the while thing.

For me Oblivion was the game where the DB really stood out, mainly to do with some really good quests. I do however also like Skyrim's version of it as it does do something different then Oblivion and I did enjoy puzzling the story together and understanding what was going on.

Just hired the Dark Brotherhood to explain the issue.

On and Oblivion was much better, to me than Skyrim.
