The Dark Brotherhood... better in Skyrim or Cyrodiil?

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 10:20 pm

It's just like when the hired thugs get sent after you. You can check to see who sent them but there is no dialogue option with that person.

Good point both of you. Never thought of that . I have to disagree with the moving away from the tenets was a good idea though. They made the DB something different than the MT, so I read.

I dont know, I like the way you were sought out by LaChance.

I eventually did the DB questline in Ob but this is how it went the first time:

Sibilant, whispering dude shows up in my bedroom when I'm asleep telling me I sleep soundly for a murderer.
"That's because I sleep with my sword in my hand." *Smack*
Thinks: I'll clean that up in the morning.

How could you? You killed the coolest character in DB history besides Sithis himself. The Night Mother scowls at you

I honestly can't choose. They were my two favorite quest lines from either game

For me, it's Skyrim by a slim margin.

It just has those extra little details. Summoning Lucien Lachance and having him react to various things. The feel of the sanctuaries. Cicero's journals. The whole 'abandoning the old ways' and the effects that idea had on the Brotherhood. The Thieve's Guild connection.

I also prefer the Night Mother in Skyrim - she sounds creepier, just as a 1000-year-old-undead-leader-of-assassins should ;)

That was my point awhile back. They are both great but cannot be compared because they are so different in so many ways.

They are both disgraces to what the Dark Brotherhood use to be, the cyrodiil chapter was rotten from within and the members were nothing but psychotic nutjobs while in skyrim it was filled with people who didn't even care for sithis, they just cared for killing and money. The Dark Brotherhood use to be great, in recent games we've seen the worst they have to offer and they are nothing but a disgrace to sithis and the night mother, I honestly hope they just bloody die out already.

I do feel closer to the night mother on skyrim.

and why? in Skyrim you do like 2~3 quests and you is already the mofuking listener, in oblivion you work work work alot to in the gran finale be rewarded as listener :3
and the quests in oblivion are so much funny and creative, the only awesome quest from the DB in Skyrim is the emperor assassination plot :/
thats true!if Oblivion had all these skyrim option would be a game maybe better than MOrrowind if you asked me!

Yes he's very cool. About the temperature of a mortuary slab, actually. Kinda the same way as Astrid's hot...

When I did get around to doing the DB questline I was glad about what happened to him. His only saving grace was that his voice and delivery were the best in the game, and Oblivion had some wonderful stuff by Patrick Stewart, Terence Stamp and Sean Bean.

I do like him in Skyrim though, although I spose that's a spoiler, and this isn't the Spoilers section.

Just a general query to find out whether or not players prefer the DB questline in Skyrim or Oblivion.

For me, OBLIVION!

Thanks in advance for all your feedback

All the guilds in Skyrim were crap compared to previous games, Oblivion included.

Oblivion = merry band of psychopaths save for a few characters

Skyrim = decadent organization of amateurish contract killers; incidentally the only one "real" DB type is also a merry psychopath!

Appeal to me = Zero :/

Lucien did not desrve what he got. He was truly a lover of Sithis and the Brotherhood. It was a real shame to see him framed and strung up. He and Vincent were the only ones I was sad to see die. During the Purification, I always killed Vincent first, in his sleep, so he could go peacfully and not see the DB get purified. He deserved at least that much.

The quest-line is far more compelling, with greater reaching implications. There was only really one thing I liked about Oblivion's DB and I'm pretty sure that thing (Mansion quest) is high on most peoples list. I also prefer the tone and characters of Skyrim's DB (except Cicero, uugh).
This. Also to note, the Skyrim Dark Brotherhood is more similar to all the other Dark Brotherhood incarnations. It's the Oblivion Dark Brotherhood that's the one whose much much much more different than everyone else (Merry band of complete and utter psychos and lunatics).

The Skyrim version does get away from the old ways in honoring Sithis. That is the point though. I like to think that once the quest is over, you instill the old ways again and I hope thatin the future they do return to the love that the DB had for Sithis and the old ways. It's all perspectiv but I think that the DB is still the best guild and questline.

In Morrowind, the DB is ruthless but you cannot join them. Maybe if yu could then the discussion will head in another direction.

Funny how almost no one ever mentions the Daggerfall branch of the Dark Brotherhood. Now that is what the guild should have been like, which Skyrim got very close to, until a certain spawn of Cyrodiil dragged his ass over.

I just started playing Daggerfall. I have not yet come across them. Can you join them in DG?

I like them both. Oblivion had better missions in the beginning, but Skyrim DB turns out to be EPIC near the end.
I would definitely say that Mage Guild was better in Oblivion than College in Skyrim, but DB - Skyrim DB is great, once again DB has the best storyline in ES:)

Oblivion on the whole but killing the Emperor was a reward in it's own, satisfying and to do it in the worst manner someone doesn't even fight back, EVIL.

Yes you can. Not going to tell you how, but if you want to know, look it up at UESP.

Cool, no need to tell me. I like finding it out myself. Just wanted to know if it was an option. Now I have even more to look forward to

Vicente was my maker in Oblivion, and he was far and away the most well balanced member of the Ob DB. Tienaava was also less psychopathic than the rest of them. The Shadowscale characters in Ob and Skyrim are among my favorite members, since they seem sane, but I have to say I am sick of the mostly 'looney nut-job' type characters.

Lucien deserved to be flayed because:
1. He was an idiot, because he thought I would be okay with him showing up uninvited in my house, and
2. He was an idiot because he thought Shadowmere was female.

I never said he was smart. But showing up in your room was more arrogance than stupidity. He was just the most loyal to Sithis. The Shadowscale were also badass, in OB only, the one in Skyrim was a bit feeble.
