But I am not sure about worshipping Mephela. I am so dear to Sithis

But Mephala is the Anticipation of Vivec. And since the Morag Tong only really exist in Morrowind at the time of tribunal, they really kinda worship Vivec, the warrior poet who I really like. :P

btw, Morrowind lets you do what you want, and you can complete the DB Morag Tong quest without getting it. If you want me to tell you the location to avoid, you can PM me.

But the DB split from the MT becaus eof their devotion to Sithis instead of Mephala. I will PM you though

Originally, I planned for my Dunmer Assassin named Figgin Marvayn to arrive in Morrowind (back story of course) and then becomes the Nerevarine granting him immortality. Then he pisses off Azura and Azura sends him to Cyrodiil to contend with the Oblivion Crisis. Even though Lore suggests the Nerevarine went to Akivar, that will be my cover to escape his duties. Then after the Oblivion Crisis goes into the Jerrell Mountains for 200 years because he is having a hard time dealing with his lonely life, only to be forced out of hiding and caughtup in Skyrim and the return of the dragons. Now the only caviat is that now I am playing Arena and Daggerfall as well and I think I might try to incorporate those storylines as well. not sure. I am haveing TES overload.
Oh yes, I saw this discussion in a thread the other day. I like the idea of him being this true hero who has survived for hundreds of years to be the saviour when he needs to be.

I think the real reason the DB split was purely for financial gain. There's some good books in Morrowind that don't appear in Ob or Skyrim which will be enlightening.

I just need to make a decision on whether or not to add Arena and Daggerfall events to the story

I will have to read them. I am only going off the wiki and other pages like that that suggest the split was over Sithis worship

Defintely Oblivion. The characters were far more interesting and compelling and I got attached to quite a few of them. LaChance was definitely a really enigmatic character that you either loved or hated. I loved the two Argonians (Teinaava and Ocheeva) in the Oblivion DB.

The only character I got remotely attached to in the Skyrim DB was the Argonian (Veezara) because he reminded me of those two from Oblivion. The rest....meh. Although I had a lot of respect for Astrid.....until....well you know.

Quite frankly the quest line was so short that I didn't have enough time to get attached to any of the characters in the Skyrim Dark Brotherhood.

I'm afraid I can't help you, as I have not played either Arena or Daggerfall so I don't know if they will fit with your character If the events do fit with your character then I say go for it as it will make your story even more epic. Am I right in saying Arena, Daggerfall and Morrowind are set pretty close to each other?

They do fit my character. The events of Arena is 3E 389-399 Daggerfall is 3E 405 and Morrowind is 3E 411 Oblivion is 3E 433 I think.

The way I joined in Skyrim felt more real than with Oblivion. I have a hard time believing Lechance approaches EVERYONE who commits murder, but Astrid's game was very much in character. I liked each individual quest in Oblivion, but the overarching story in Skyrim more. So... Skyrim.

Psst... Hail Sithis.

I dont know, I like the way you were sought out by LaChance. I always saw it as a recruitment in that I killed in a particular way that please the night mother. Now, the kidnapping you is awesome as well. I liked killing poor Rufio rather than Grelod the Kind ass though.

Good way to look at it, I hadn't thought that way. Because we don't see the night mother for so long in Oblivion I kind of forget. But that would work.

I do love the conflict between Astrid & the night mother throughout Skyrim's story.

The Grelod bit is a bit of genius. Lets non-evil characters find the DB too.

Right, but they do have to still commit a murder to find them. From an RP standpoint that does not work. Maybe an option to beat her into retirement or something but to kill her in cold blood does not work for a true good char

Not fond of them in Skyrim.

1/Oh what a surprise - you turn out to be the listener. It's apparently now impossible to join a guild without ending up running it five minutes later. Personally I think it would have been far more interesting if you had to find the new listener and help them establish themselves. I'm sick of being boss of everything in this game. Can't Bethesda think of handling guilds any differently these days? Has their imagination totally run dry?

2/Characters are very one dimensional except Cicero who's annoying and Astrid who's made inconsistent (see below).

3/Opening quest is arguably the dumbest is RPG history. I really wish there was an option to drag Arentino back that orphanage where he belongs. The Jarl has, after all, ordered him to go there. But apparently the city guards can't handle a small child.

4/Usual nonsensical plotting

Spoiler
Like why would Astrid be so dumb as to believe by betraying you the rest would get left alone? And I thought this job was tremendously important and the brotherhood's big chance to make it big. Why not just say "Ok guys they're onto us - time to move to a new hideout". Astrid is supposed to be clever, cunning and a bit paranoid, yet she suddenly behaves like a totally naive idiot [/spolier]

Still, nowhere near as badly written as some of the other questlines and at least they do manage to keep the quest about assassinating people - unlike the thieves guild and Hogwarts where you can just hack and slash your way through supposedly magic and thieving based questlines.

5/Making it too easy

[spoiler] Like the way you can walk up to that guy touring the cities, tell him you're going to kill him and then he attacks you letting you blatantly murder him with no penalty. You should be forced to stealth kill him like the assassin you're supposed to be. It's perfectly doable. Not to mention you can just blatantly kill Grelod in front of everyone

6/Gimp suits. Having a specific armour set for secret assassins is a dumb idea in the first place, making it into a totally incongruous gimp suit is ridiculous

7/Usual thing of you can't play the game for more than a couple of hours without having the quest dangled in your face. It would have been really nice if someone as secretive as the DB were someone you stumbled on. Oblivion had an imperfect but far better way of introducing them.

Depressingly, I reckon it's still probably the best of the guild questlines.

Edit - weird thing going on with spoiler tags....second closing one isn't showing, but I typed it in...

I suppose... although there's evil, and then there's evil. I can role play someone who lived in a world like Tamriel and thought killing the abusive orphanage owner was the right thing to do.

Just saw your blog. Great idea! I'll bookmark to read it.

Good point here. I agree the armor is horrendous and the robes are worse. I loved the robes in oblivion. As for the assassinations, make yourself have to assassinate in a stealth like manner. You are right though, you can just run through it and kill quickly. Now as for Astrid and her being naive, well she has always been that way. She got away from the most important thing the DB had going for them, THE TENENTS!!!

It's not quite as bad as some of the others but you've got

* Asking for rumours - apparently the whole of Skyrim is talking about what a child is doing and they're all powerless to stop him. Alduin has nothing on that kid.
* Random guard comments - triggering 'talk to,...' going into your journal
* Scripted conversation outside his house in Windhelm just in case you missed the other two.

I'd say moving away from the tenets is pragmatic and kinda mercenary. I actually like that idea. They're contract killers - contract killers don't need any tenets apart from you pay, they die.

I just thought of something else that's crap - the way you can get a DB assassin after you, but it never gets any mention when you join. They've taken the job - they should keep trying to kill you and it be made explicit if it's called off. You can't even say anything about them trying to kill you. It's all totally ignored.

It's just like when the hired thugs get sent after you. You can check to see who sent them but there is no dialogue option with that person.
