Weapons, Mods and Ammo Mega-Thread

Is no one here excited about the Energy Weapons? Am I really the only primarily Energy Weapons player here? The new Laser Rifle looks at least twice as awesome as most of the new weapons (but not if there's a Tommy Gun of course).

Well we really haven't seen all that many new Energy type weapons so there really isn't all that much to speculate about, Although I will say I'm a big fan of em' so I hope to see some fresh additions to the Energy Weapons category as well. :tops:

I just hope the energy weapons represent an advance in effectiveness over conventional firearms. When the first laser or plasma rifle was made, the only reason to adopt it for military use would be if it was a more effective weapon. The amount of damage you can deal with energy weapons should be a good bit greater than firearms or else why make them? They look expensive as hell.

I'd like to see a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Browning_Automatic_Rifle. That would just make my day. One of my favorite war era weapons.

That'd be the cat's ass. But I would even settle for the http://www.browning.com/products/catalog/firearms/detail.asp?value=http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1112926-weapons-mods-and-ammo-mega-thread/002B&cat_id=031&type_id=001&content=bar-safari-firearms

Also this just in:
Since quests are the things that arguably are at least somewhat challenging to do, it seems odd that you would advocate not having achievements for them.

If they wind up being things like "Kill Ten Deathclaws with a Silenced .22 Pistol," they're so marginal/edge-case that virtually no one would get any of them.

See. I told you guys there was a silenced .22 Pistol.

Question of the Day #2

Since Obsidian has now included Damage Per Second (DPS) in the stats section for each weapon, alternating with straight Damage (DAM), I wonder what formula they used to determine this number? Is it a straight number using per shot damage x rate of fire, or does it include reloading? Take a SMG with a 10 round mag that does 10 damage with a rate of fire at 10 rounds a second. The DPS would be 100 for the short term. Take that same weapon, but put in a 30 round mag. DPS would be the same for the short term without figuring in reload times, but since there is a longer period between reload times, this weapon would actually have a higher DPS over a longer term and be a much more usful weapon. How do you think the stat is figured, and how to you think it should be figured?

I think the R91 is back. Watch http://xbox360.ign.com/dor/objects/14341976/fallout-new-vegas/videos/falloutnv_vdp_060310_v3.html At about 19-20 seconds in, you can see the distinctive stock of the R91 assault rifle on the back of the Super Mutant. I'm only excited about this since the Perforator appears to be a heavily modified R91. If you could build your own with weapons mods, that would be awesome.

I loved the R91, I always used it instead of the Chinese Assault Rifle regardless of damage. If only you could paint guns, I'd have a supressed, flat black R91.

A 9mm SMG, you say? Well considering Bethesda's love for slightly quirky weapons such as the M79, "Chinese Pistol," Lincoln's Repeater, Combat Shotgun and many of the big guns, I think the 9mm SMG could look a lot like either the Uzi or Sten.

Agreed. It could be a few different things. I would be very happy if it was something like an MP5 or an MP7. The MP5 is one of my favorite weapons. So fun to shoot, handles beautifully and, especially the SD variants, looks absolutely awesome.. So, Im hoping.

I always loved the R91 as well it reminded me of one of my favorites the G3 Battle Rifle. :tops:

I wish it actually had the Polymer Hand-guard and Buttstock of the G3 in Fallout 3 but I may just be picky http://conspiracyx0.tripod.com/weapons/G3.jpg

The MP7 is the coolest [censored] gun ever, It wouldn't feel fallout-ish at all though.

The wiki lists a 12.7mm (.50cal) pistol. I've seen hide nor hair of this. The discussion page mentions a conversation with Josh about the gun, but does not reference where the converation took place. Does anyone know where this conversation with Josh took place? I'd like to read it.

Crap. It was in a weapons thread, I think. Not that that narrows it down any. There was a pic, and people were speculating. Then JES posted, and there was a discussion where people mentioned how 12.7 mm is equal to .50 cal. I'll look though.

The .50 cal is the 12.7 mm Kiebler. :tops:

I just don't see how you'd shoot one of those out of a pistol and not hurt yourself.

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/12.7mm_pistol the link to the Vault for whatever that's worth. Hopefully other weapons will use the 12.7mm ammo because the 14mm pistol was the only one that used 14mm ammo and that just svcks. We can't just have guns with unique ammo types (excluding the missile launcher and Fat Man). That would make hardcoe mode very unpleasant.

Well all the same shooting a 12.7mm is just ridiculous especially from a pistol, Its an Anti-Material round you'd either knock yourself unconscious from the muzzle climbing high enough to slam you in the face or dislocating your shoulder.

Sounds badass though I can't wait to shoot it. (I can imagine the 14mm Pistol would be even worse, Its one beastly Russian bullet.) :tops:

Well there are 12.7mm (.50 cal) pistols out there right now, but they do not fire the large HMG type of rounds. Like the .50 AE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.50_Action_Express), which packs a walloping punch, and no it's not advisable to fire such a large caliber with only 1 hand.

I'm pretty sure it shoots the full-sized .50 BMG from a pistol, Which is quite ridiculous but awesome. :tops:

Well if it is, the 12.7mm Pistol would need to be a single shot, manually loaded weapon, with a gigantic ass breech with a muzzle brake that is too massive for a handgun, But **** yeah it would be awesome, like the 14mm Pistol in FO2 was my favorite..

They could also introduce the uber .223 (5.56mm) Pistol back in too, maybe in a DLC or something.

I originally came to this forum to suggest- no, beg- no, DEMAND/BEG that the developers include the .223 "Blade Runner Blaster" pistol which I loved so much from Fallout 1 and I'm glad to see that people here have started talking about it. I wouldn't mind seeing it as downloadable content later on either, so long as I eventually get it. I recently played some Fallout 1 to gear up for New Vegas and I was reminded about how much I loved that gun. Imagining having it in my hand in Fallout 3 or NV makes me salivate, thinking about it now is making me antsy and I just want to get up and go play around with it, but then I remember that its all in my head.

I'm also extremely pleased that some form of the Colt SAA is appearing in the game. It's one of my favorite guns, actually probably my most favorite, solidified for me by Revolver Ocelot in Metal Gear, his speech about it is classic. I'm not too fond of the staghorn or whatever grip I've seen in the few instances that I've seen the gun though, but it's a small gripe.

But there's another old west gun that I'd also love to see in the game that I can sadly almost guarantee won't be there. As of late I've had a massive hard-on for the http://www.merwinhulbertco.com/ revolvers. So many things about this gun are unique and interesting, heres a http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKe0weSyIjU that explains quite a bit about them.

Another gun that I'd like to see that I think would be really fitting for the setting is the Gyrojet gun. It's ugly as sin if you ask me, but it's fun and almost comical, if I'm not mistaken it actually shoots little bullet sized rockets. Tell me that's not 50's sci-fi.
