To work or not to work

Post » Wed Mar 09, 2011 12:42 pm

I feel somewhat irresponsible for even posting this, but is anyone taking off work for this game? I have never done this but am strongly considering taking a personal day on Tuesday so I can pick the game up tomorrow night at midnight and play it until the wee hours of the morning. Is anyone else taking time off to play this game? I feel like this is something that would be acceptable for a college student who works at Subway, but not for me. I'm married, one kid, and I have a professional job. Pretty funny. My wife has "approved" it but I still have trouble justifying it. Any thoughts?

Why would you feel irresponsible? This is what you would call a 'staycation'.

I have about 120 hours of vacation time, i can spend a couple of days for a favorite game if I so choose :)

Wait a minute. In college, you only had to go to school two days of the week? Is it possible to have a 5 day, all day, week in college?

It all depends, on what you need to take and when it is offered. Often times (especially early in your college career, first two years) you can easily make your schedule whatever you want. You can go to class all day on Tuesday's and Thursdays, or have a couple classes every day. Classes are typically either, Tuesday/Thursday or Monday/Wednesday/Friday. And then you also have night classes (once per week). I loaded up my schedule with TUE/THU classes so I had long weekends.

I have class two days a week and tues is one of them. Missing one day of class is about an entire month of high school in constitutional law...

32 months worth in a semester eh? I wouldn't go that far. But yeah, each day of class is important enough not to skip.

My book is 1478 pages long... how long is your average high school history book? ;) As for the guy earlier, it depends on your classes. I had mon through thurs class last semester, just shorter days.

My college History 1 book is 799 pages long not including the indexes and stuff, but I mostly use it to reinforce the three to four pages of lecture notes I take each class.

It's a marathon each day. :banghead:

Nah, man go for it. Like people have said, if it doesn't interfere with anything major, why not? Yes, you should definitely do it. I work at a bookstore, am an SGA at Gamestop and go to college. I have the next two days off and specifically told my girlfriend to just not try and contact me because I probably wouldn't answer. She was cool with it, so looks like I will be in solitude for the next two days with no interuptions. Awesome. Post apocalyptic Vegas, here I come.

Haha ya luckily the teachers pretty cool and her lectures are like spark notes of the assigned reading. All of our papers are argumentative opinions too =P No right or wrong haha. Still, sitting in class for three hours is never fun. So glad I'll have Fallout to come home to.

Edit: L2Type =P I don't know how many trees I would have killed so far with my 2.3g file of notes and papers...

I was going to say something about responsibility, but then I remembered that my mom on several occasions has taken a day off from work because she stayed out to late partying. She's a labor and delivery nurse...Go for it dude :goodjob:

I'd ask them to watch this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0nERTFo-Sk&feature=fvst, take a side, then justify and debate it in the next class. ;)

Vacation days are for you to relax and enjoy. If you have a spare one use it. There is no shame in being a gamer. I took the day off also.

Depends IMO if you are a good employee or if you often take sick days. I'd you have a sick day or vacation day saves up then he'll yeah you've earned it. I am lucky I won't have to worry about this as I work from home on my laptop Tuesday at 9 and will be going to the midnight release for FNV and Vanquish. So I'll be playing as I work. Good luck!

Dude there is nothing wrong with taking off. I haven't asked for time off in a few months so a few weeks ago i asked to get Monday-Wednesday off. I have been counting down the time since the game was first announced. Most anticipated game of the year for me... Everything else... filler until New Vegas release. Amiright?

if you've got leave due, then taking it to play FNV is fine. It's your leisure time.

However, talk of taking sickies or ditching college just to play a game is... erm... seriously? wow...

(personally, I'd rather save leave-time for important stuff like Xmas etc. You can play Fallout any day of the week for the next three years)

I'm taking Friday off as annual leave but getting the game midnight on Thursday. So will probably go home after the midnight launch and play for 3-4 hours, sleep, get up and play again. :D Then play the whole weekend. I wouldn't pull a sickie to play...

It must svck getting game released on a Tuesday, no?

My intelligence goes down to 1 on my S.P.E.C.I.A.L during release days. The only logical choice is to skip school.

I wish I could take a personal day but I can't right now.

I think it depends on how important your job is. If you save lives, go to work would be one thought. If your guilt would consume you, go to work. It's a personal thing and life is short and our time has to be allocated. sigh. Good luck whatever you decide. :)
