Dont play Dead is Dead

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 9:04 am

This may suprise you to hear but...some people have jobs and school and don't have the privilege of throwing 60 hours of progress away just to be "hurr im so cool, dead is dead lol hurrr"

You just know they walk around for the rest of the day pretending they're The Terminator. Such an unwarranted sense of accomplishment and discipline.

i gotta admit you had some funny posts but your starting to come off a little insecure and desperate. possibly you are the one with no resbonsibilities? lol
Except he's absolutely right, DiD is "satisfying and so COOL1!@!" up until the point where you die a pathetic death. Then you have to start over, redo all the same tasks you recently completed just to get to the point where you are now, then you die again.

You just know they walk around for the rest of the day pretending they're The Terminator. Such an unwarranted sense of accomplishment and discipline.
I love how people on the internet always assume that others have no jobs/school just because they themselves don't.

Ironically this is the title of the Dexter Season 6 Finale. End with a whimper it did.

i think we just enjoy the playstyle for its intensity. dont see how the school and job comments are necessary or even relevant

No, DiD, literally, makes no sense. The sheer satisfaction from DID is from role playing how ones real life would result in when forced to death and force realism, so to respawn and role play as a entire different life and character, which as a whole, is unrealistic, essentially makes the concept contradict the entire reason you are roleplaying DiD in the first place.
Actually the fun in Dead in Dead to me came from that the game usually wasnt very difficult, so a situation where my character could die occured only about every 2 hours.
Once I realized that it got boring, when I started DiD I had to be aware all the time because that one situation every two hours would have been enough to end that character if I dont pay attention.
That made the non-dangerous situations much more interesting because you dont always know in advance if a situation is dangerous or not. You just play different and experience the game different.
So basically I used it to overcome one of the weaknesses of the game and it worked just fine.

Exactly my thoughts. People with no job or any social responsibility whatsoever in life are the only type who will enjoy this kind of experience. I guarantee it. They'll of course argue and lie to support their cause no matter how stupid it is.

There's nothing better than spending 20+ hours on a character just so you can "die a glorious death using all your skills, sadly they're just not enough" Wow...really? I hope that lesson is valuable enough to you and, y'know, not looked upon in the future as a tremendously wasteful exorcize in futility. Then again you probably spend hours painting D&D figurines, so this epiphany will never occur in your life.

You are inferior and can't handle the pressure. That's all I'm hearing from you.

Oh, and 20+ hours is nothing. That is 2 days of serious gaming. I wipe my ass with 20 hours of gameplay. Try 200+.

Hey I love intensity as much as the next guy but...I'm not okay with losing 60 hours of my progress just for the sake of "intensity". 60 hours is more than one week's of worth, think of it that way.

i'm a huge fan of the DiD play style, since TES3: Morrowind. it is loads of fun in large part due to how horrible it is to die, and how it affects future playthroughs. From this perspective, I would urge you to play on after this grief period (don't delete your saves - let's call them graves in this context)

that being said i find that the current state of skyrim is not yet optimal to get the most out of this play style, and maybe a toned down version of that concept is best applied until it is. as someone else suggestec, you might want to try limiting how often you save to a frequency at your discretion. i find that sleeping at most once a day, and saving only when sleeping, is quite the sweet spot for me with a good balance of peril frustration enthusiasm and care, but everyone's different so find what works for you.

mainly i just wanted to say that we, DiD fans, all go through what you're going too, it's part of it, and that you don't have to fear for your future enjoyment of the game.

hope that helps, cheers

I ran into that trap last night, and barely made it. This is on Adept, mind, on Master it would have been certain death. Of course, it was my first time through that particular ruin, so even though I knew to look for trap triggers I missed it and got diced.

I've been considering bumping it up to Master just to see how it goes, although I'm a bit concerned that the early levels will prove to be a bit too rough, even with a companion.

This game's idea of a challenge consists of arbitrarily placed mobs that inexplicably kill you with one or two spell casts. Perhaps if there was more finesse in the approach to the challenge of combat in this game, dead is dead would be somewhat more rewarding of an experience because, logically, you can plan ahead every danger.

I think you misunderstood me. I don't think having work/school makes anybody superior, just that having responsibilities mean that you don't really have time to waste. DiD creates an environment in which playing Skyrim can actually waste time. That is why I don't play DiD and also the reason why I feel that it's stupid.

Why are people down on other people's playstyles?

I haven't tried DiD yet, but i'm trying to play with my own kind of enhanced difficulty ruleset...I've been gaming for over twenty years, a game like this provides absolutely no challenge if I don't do something a bit different with it. I have a normal life, wife, kids, responsibilities and everything. I just prefer to play games like this my own way, i'm probably ten years older than most of you little snotnoses who are makiong comments like "DUR UR HOTPOKETZ R REDDY DUDE I NEEDZ TO GO PLAY COD NOW".

thats awesome i love the loyalty
They were together from level 5 to level 28, no deaths until that damn Dwemer ruin. I made it past the blade with whirlwind sprint thinking there would be a switch to turn it off...no dice. Lydia got hit once and was on her knee's,before I could get back down the steps that blade hit her again. It just felt wrong to go on without her.

DiD is just too bold for me. I don't want to waste 30 hours of my life only to delete it all away from a silly death.
But you wasted 30 hrs of your life anyway just playing the game normal as is. Its not like gaming is productive...yes its fun but it really is just wasting time so I dont get your point.

What's the deal with people hating on DiD?

Just don't do it, if it pisses you off so much.

Why does it piss you off, anyway? It's been around for decades. It's been around since RPGs were on consoles, and were table-top games. How does somebody playing that if their character dies, they STAY dead affect you in any way?

That's like getting pissed at somebody for choosing to roll a Dunmer, because they're your least favorite race, and you don't play as them. If they like the race, more [censored] power to them. If you don't, awesome. I don't like Dunmer, but I can understand why people play them.

So, if I decide to make a character that will be deleted if he dies, that's my problem, not yours. Live and let live, don't get pissed off when somebody plays differently.
