Dont play Dead is Dead

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 2:54 am

how is it a waste of time if your having fun doing it? i get that its not for you but to call it absurdly stupid is well stupid

No, DiD, literally, makes no sense. The sheer satisfaction from DID is from role playing how ones real life would result in when forced to death and force realism, so to respawn and role play as a entire different life and character, which as a whole, is unrealistic, essentially makes the concept contradict the entire reason you are roleplaying DiD in the first place.

Well, mine autorunned from a cliff around that level, just as she was about to go and geek Victoria Vicci.
Even if I would still play Skyrim I probably wouldnt make another Dead is Dead character, but I couldnt say that character wasnt the most fun in Skyrim I had while she lasted, and that only was because it was Dead is Dead.
The reason why I wouldnt make another one is the same as yours though, it is much more likely to die a random death then in a spectacular fight were you used all of your own and your characters skill and it just wasnt enough.

So basically you're saying that, because I can simply re-load my file and try again, it encourages me to explore content and burn through quests faster? Lawlz sir, lawlz. Well played.

Yes, thats basically what im saying.

Dungeons and Dragons operates on the principle of Dead is Dead. It seems to have worked fine for decades for that game system.

What's sad is you probably aren't trolling.

Again, you're spot on with this assessment.

Oh, I never argued that its fine or not. If people enjoy playing in a literal fallacious concept, then so be it. The rest of us will shake our heads and laugh. :P

People saying Skyrim DiD isn't feasible because of the potential of random death need to play a few roguelikes. At least Skyrim has visual clues, and taking potions isn't completely random.

DiD is definitely for those who have too much time on their hands. Just recently I died, but only because I sneezed (in real life) and lost my balance on the mouse+keyboard and I was hit by a Briarheart's blizzard. I've spent 60 hours on this character, no way in hell I'd start over because of this.

According to DiD rules, deaths due to IRL circumstances are void, so your sneeze-death wouldn't have "counted".

DiD stands for "Dead is Dead". It goes on the basis that if your character dies, then they're dead forever, game over, start from the beginning.

DiD stands for "Dead is Dead". It goes like this, if your character dies, then that's it he's dead. So then you have to start a new character, no loading.

Try "Hero's Nightmare" instead of DID.

Only save right after sleeping... that way if you do die you can play it off as a bad dream. Trust me, you'll still hate dying after a 4 hour grind.
I'll be sure to do this...

Exactly my thoughts. People with no job or any social responsibility whatsoever in life are the only type who will enjoy this kind of experience. I guarantee it. They'll of course argue and lie to support their cause no matter how stupid it is.

There's nothing better than spending 20+ hours on a character just so you can "die a glorious death using all your skills, sadly they're just not enough" Wow...really? I hope that lesson is valuable enough to you and, y'know, not looked upon in the future as a tremendously wasteful exorcize in futility. Then again you probably spend hours painting D&D figurines, so this epiphany will never occur in your life.

HOW INCREDIBLY CONVENIENT! Doesn't that completely go against DiD? Dead IS dead afterall, no ifs ands or buts. What's the point of DiD if you're just going to make special rules? This is why I don't play DiD, it's stupid. imo

*shrugs* I'm just quoting what I read in the other DiD thread last night. People can play DiD however they like, it's their game.

But dude RPing in a Chef's hat while ONLY walking to your destinations (no fast-travel, fckers!) and whining because you can't use your super Bard Chef skill to whip up some Virgin Blood Sausage and woo a den of vampires to your liking.

This may suprise you to hear but...some people have jobs and school and don't have the privilege of throwing 60 hours of progress away just to be "hurr im so cool, dead is dead lol hurrr"
