PS3 Release for Dawnguard - Thread #12

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 11:20 pm

Not sure if this has been noted, I haven't bothered to read through this thread. I was browsing Pete Hines' twitter account (@DCDeacon) and saw this...

Twitter user @HPLA1 asks: "https://twitter.com/DCDeacon Let me ask you this, is Dawnguard playable on PS3, as it is now?
To which @DCDeacon (Pete Hines) replies: "https://twitter.com/HPLA1 yes, it's just doesn't perform well in all scenarios. Some folks would be fine, some would not",

So, what does this mean? Dawnguard does work, but would maybe crash, freeze (or something) in certain scenarios. Am I the only one thinking, "GIVE US A BETA!"

"Some will work but others won't" sounds just like base game itself. We wont get a Beta that would mean Beth would care. But I do hope but I say it's very very unlikely.

Honestly, I've spent the past 3 days trying to convince my brother to swap his Xbox for my PS3. I'm done with everything. Not just Bethesda, but other companies too.

This is ridiculous, though I prob will still buy Dawnguard when and if it releases. But if they try and sell any future DLC in a GOTY edition only, I'm not buying. They've had plenty of time to employ people who know what they're doing with PS3 coding but they don't bother. When used to its full potential, PS3 can for the most part produce games better than XBOX can. I love Skyrim, enjoyed Oblivion but if another Elder Scrolls gets released on this current generation. I'm not pre-ordering, I'll wait it out and see if it's worth my money. Maybe when PS4 gets released they'll decide to get PS programmers and make an effort to make a product that gets treated equally on both consoles. Who am I kidding? They'll continue to happily take MS's money.

I bought the collector's edition and have Playstation +, not that it makes a jot of difference.

Bethesda is the only developer who has a problem with ps3, I don't know any other developer who has this problem!

Perhaps I'd better start thinking about buying a new PC. I'm pretty disappointed ... But at least we've been given a reason. There's nothing we can do about it. And I guess there's always a chance it'll be released.

This is bad for ps3 users. I play Skyrim on Xbox but I do own a PS3. I have a few friends who are exclusively PS3 players and it's really rubbish that they might not be able to play the same content that I can when we own the same games.

Hopefully Bethesda are able to fix this but it's nice they've given an update on the situation - and it also acts as a warning just incase they aren't able to fix it so the impact of a possible future announcement of 'Sorry - no Dawnguard for you' shouldn't be as hard.

Anyone who didn't see it, read my above post. Some of you have had THREE games for PS3 and on all 3, Beth had problems with only the ONE console. Maybe it's not Bethesda that has the problem. Not to argue they prefer 360, I believe so too, but they can bring it out for PC easily enough. It's the PS3 that keeps being useless. Maybe someone should go ask Sony, "Yo, wtf?"
And it's doesn't help when Sony says things like this: http://www.shacknews.com/article/56844/ps3-intentionally-hard-to-develop If had bought Skyrim for PS3, I would be mad at Sony too for this decisions they made when developing the console.
Not to be mean, but the PS3 is the weakest of the 3 systems you can play Skyrim on. PC is obviously best, 360 is great because HEY the guys who make computer software make 360 as well. And then you have PS3. It has no sustainability. PC doesn't need much help 'cause they can always go and upgrade it. 360 yea, you only pay 50 a year for net, but that 50 a year from EACH subscriber helps them to keep software up to date and keep the system going stronger. What does PS3 have? Free net, that's cool. Doesn't help keep your system going or pay for people to update it. People buying games helps, but that's something you do for every console/pc, so that's not much of a boost. PS3 doesn't have anything to sustain it, and their-in lies the problem. It's not Bethesda's fault they can't work with a machine that simply isn't up to the task. It's just not strong enough to do it.
What I hate is that I absolutely knew this would happen when I asked the Gamestop guy to hand me the ps3 version. This is all my fault because I knew the history. I owned New Vegas and FO3, and when the Gamestop side asked me what version I wanted I said mutha fukin ps3. This is my fault because I own an xbox and a decent PC. The ps3 was always the inferior platform but with my stubbornness I failed to see it. Although I hate my decisions, even though I know it's my fault, for some reason I can only seem to feel complete and utter hatred for Beth. This honestly annoys me to no end, deadazz this is the last beth game for the playstation. Great game I enjoyed it, but I am done with this favoritism you seem to enjoy playing. Pero yo voy a sobrevivir, I can promise you that bro.

Your not making the matter any better by coming onto a PS3 thread and blaming the playstation. PS3 users already are pissed and you guys coming in is only going to be like throwing lighter fluid onto a fire. its going to burn you and bethesda.

I guess I hadn't played this for about 6 weeks or so, maybe longer. Busy irl, but had managed to play other games in that time and had come to the point of largely forgetting and moving on - severing the link I had for so long with this game. Then after reading our special update today, I put the disk back in. For some reason I'd left my girl standing high up on Shriekwind Overlook, at night, amidst an all-encompassing snowstorm; frozen in some rapture of quiet intensity. I just stared and listened and stared and listened as the scene became darker, louder, gradually giving way to immense, drenching colour as the sky lit up, awe writ large. I'd run through this world in my mind a million times and kept running. What is so brutally sad about today is this beautiful thing, this moving art needs to be seen by people, now. Beth: why did you not back your artists, the thinkers and creators to get this to as many people as possible? How did it get to this point? Try and sleep at night wondering how this moment and this opportunity was allowed to fall so terribly by the wayside.

Some thanks out for the bloggers and contributors on this thread; Xharon for keeping it top of mind when everyone else gave up, regular posters Spiritreaver, Pacifisticrage, Xurts, REL, Ryu, Stormwatcher, dmel, fupark, Againstallodds, Yeknom, Kain, juvenlast, Giulianosse, Zpred, and countless others over many months and thousands and thousands of words.

And of course to the PS3 'alphas' holding up the walls on bleak house over at our sub forums: Murt, Dar', Prowler, Ed, Thunder, Mick, an incredibly knowledgeable group always at the vanguard arguing for this platforms rightful place.

Feels like an ending but Beth, try making it the beginning.

4J, some little Scotland game studio, ported Oblivion to PS3 and it ran just fine. Does Bethesda expect me to believe that, 5 years later, they cannot improve upon this? We were told we'd be getting a version equivalent to the 360 version during production, even though they knew without a shadow of a doubt that the PS3 version was inferior. Pretty much every other studio has been able to port games over to the PS3 just fine, and the SCE companies obviously do their thing. After 6 years, it is not unreasonable to expect Bethesda to have learned how to properly code for the machine, especially after they claim that they do.

After my 360 died, I was going to get a PS3 no matter what so I could play all the exclusive titles I had missed out on over the years. If I had known that Bethesda would show 0 improvement on coding for the PS3, I simply wouldn't have bought Skyrim in the first place. It svcks that it comes down to this, TES has been my favorite series since Daggerfall.

No we read we may not get dawnguard.

You've got to admit though, it doesn't look good for getting any DLC if they can't even figure out how to get Dawnguard working properly.

I wish they would just give us SOME of the DLC if they can't give us the whole thing. I would like the person in the Ratway who can change your face. I would like to be able to make the weapons. I would like the crossbows. If they can't make Dawnguard work, make us something that WILL and give us some new content.

The technology for pc and the 360 are both owned and created by Microsoft

I'm pretty sure Microsoft owns neither Intel nor AMD.

To be honest, I don't even care a ton about the actual expansion. But Bethesda, if you can't get the full expansion in, at least get some of the more important features (crossbows, smithing arrows, dragonbone weapons, maybe even the werewolf perk tree) into a PS3-exclusive patch or something. The ability to smith arrows should've been in the game from the start, anyways. Just adding those little things would sastisfy a good amount of people, I think.

My biggest complaint about this whole situation is the lack of communication. It is hard for me to believe that they can't take 5 minutes to post some kind of status on their progress every week. At least then we might believe that they are doing something about it.

Wow this is so unfortunate. At least they are working with Sony to try to remedy the problem. I really hope dawnguard comes for you guys.

The devs other than gstaff and vsions rarely visit the forums. And when gstaff actually does says something, he gets hit with a lot of hostile posts towards his way. But I guess its understandable people would react that way, his post are mostly "We have nothing to tell you at this time."

How is still working on it a status update? would you prefer a different wording "still haven't solved the issues." Until they have something new to tell us what reason is there to repeat old news.

This isn't the first multiplatform game that's had problems on the PS3. The PS3 has memory issues. Everybody knows it. But every time it comes up, people act suprised about it. I truly am sorry for the PS3 only people out there. My brother is one of those who doesn't look like is going to get a chance to play Skyrim DLC. But people need to shift some of that anger and blame towards Sony. When the PS3 dropped they boasted a ten year lifespan. They didn't build the hardware to support the lifespan.
