Stormcloaks are bad?

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 11:04 am

To clear some things up.

Due to the Decree of Monument the Nords do not govern the Dunmer of Skyrim and therefore cannot help their situation, that is why Brunwulf can't do anything as Jarl.

Argonians aren't allowed in into WIndhelm due to the animosity between the Dunmer and the Argonians.

Khajiit aren't allowed into any Nord cities (Imperial or Stormcloak).

The Stormcloaks do have healers (I think the Snowshod's in Riften had a daughter who was a Stormcloak Healer but died)

IIRC some stormcloak soldiers use ice magic.

The Nords gave the Dunmer the Snow Quarter but the Dunmer by seperating themselves from the Nords created the Ghetto of the Gray Quarter and then blamed the Nords on it.

If the Dunmer did help the Stormcloaks then they would have gained the Nords' respect a long time ago but they don't have to, it would just help.

General Tullius is no better than Ulfric when it comes to foreign culture. The amount of times he slanders Nord tradition is obscene.

The Nords are renowned for being drunken louts so some Stormcloaks soldiers are of course going to get drunk and be racist, I'm not condoning that but it's some not all. There are probably drunken Nords in the Imperial army...

The Gray-Manes beat the Battle-Born's every time.

The Dunmer as a race have always been arrogant [censored], it's nice to see them have a taste of their own medicine and to be honest their lucky the Nords didn't enslave them.

I'm aware of Empress Katariah, however non-Imperial Emperors/Empresses are few and far between. In fact the vast majority of people in power in the Imperial Empire are in fact Imperials.

Well yes, because each dynasty was politically founded by the Cyrodiils, and their emperors are mostly genetic, so.........yeah. And the empire was the first to allow orcs to be recognized as people, something the nords didn't do, and orcs have been in skyrim for ages. They even ousted one of their own gods because he was racially insensitive to elves. The Cyrodiilic version of Shor, Shezarr, is barely mentioned because his worship was largely centered around the concept of men over mer. I love Skyrim but...historically they haven't been so kind.

Mages try to play god. Nothing illustrates that more than the skyrim mages quests.

Well, except for Azura's Star's quest anyway. That's probably a literal example of what I said.

But even if the nords choose not to use magic, it isn't much of a detriment. They conquered the world without it once before.

Who says that nord conquered elves without magic? Tsun says that magic used to be an art respected by nords. Is there any account that states that nords defeat the mer without magic?

  • By right of cleverness. I am Master of the College of Winterhold.
"Well met, mage of Skyrim. The Nords may have forgotten their forefathers' respect for the Clever Craft, but your comrades throng this hall. Here in Shor's house we honor it still."

Yeah they used to appreciate magic back then. There's no way in hell the Nords took over without using magic.

The Imperials capture prisoners and torture them as has been seen many times in the game, Helgen, Solitude jail, and since the Thalmor walk all over the imperial's because of the White Gold Concordant we can add their evil to the list. Killing anyone who worships Talos, Torture, killing anyone who asks them what their doing. The list goes on. The Stormcloaks are the good guys.

Empire may be the one doing the capture but if I remember correctly Alvor said that before Ulfric made a big fuss about the white-gold concordat, everyone still has their own shrine of Talos, so if you want to blame someone because the term is enforced blame the stormcloaks.

Hey guys, I heard they repealed the laws against murder.
Now the government isn't out there actively murdering anyone so that's ok.

Well yes, because each dynasty was politically founded by the Cyrodiils, and their emperors are mostly genetic, so.........yeah. And the empire was the first to allow orcs to be recognized as people, something the nords didn't do,

Excuse me. The orcs had to take control of a giant robot that broke time and destroyed anyone who opposed it for this to happen. So I guess if you threaten the stability of the empire you'll be treated with respect. Oh hai stormcloaks.

Both Stormcloaks and Imperials have good and bad sides and as in every situation there are always bad examples of Stormcloaks and Imperials that give the entire faction a bad name. I've always seen it as personal preference really and the Imperials always seemed more appealing to me.

If the Grey Quarter is a slum then that's the elves' fault. They don't pay taxes, those buildings were a gift so they're not paying rent, the real question is why aren't they paying for improvements themselves?

Ulfric doesn't owe the Grey Quarter anything, except to keep thugs like Rolf in line, they isolate themselves, oppose Ulfric's war and contribute nothing to the city while still looking for handout.

I'm not a big Ulfric fan but I can't really fault him for this.

Wow people really call the stormcloaks fascists because they want to rule there own land? So the people of Libya and Syria are also wrong because they dont want to live under their current rule?
Skyrim belongs to the Nords and you can twist it all you want but every country has the right to rule itself. Skyrim is a respected and strong country. The Empires wish to suppress Skyrim is a completely wrong idea from the beginning.
If the the Empire would have said that Skyrim can rule itself, everything would be good. I mean does the Emperor really expect that Skyrim would turn its back against the Empire and everything it stood for in one of the most desperate times?

While I don't think they are fascists, I do see why some people would label them as such. Fascism is, among other things the separation of races and the formation of countries based on ethnic background.

I've no problem that they want independence, what I've a problem with is that they claim that Skyrim is for the nords and other races should not live there.

It isn't a good vs bad thing. It is more tradition Vs progress.
The reference to people losing there jobs could be that the Storm Cloaks are more inclined towards Nords as apposed to anyone else, and some cities are even racists towards elves, argonians, khajit, etc

I think the Stormcloaks can be best decribes by going to the General Store in Falkreath. The owner of the store is friendly and welcoming as long as you don't steal his stuff, while his brother dislikes all non-Nords. Nothing in the game indicates that non-Nords will be thrown out of Skyrim if Ulfric wins, nor will a racial genocide happen. I think we can all agree that he is a pro-Nord nationalist, but calling him a racist on that foundation is the same as callimg me a racist for wanting Norwegians to rule Norway.

Which is why I've a problem with them they'll kick everyone non-nord. If they just want independece then I'm all for it, I live in a country that was being opressed for 200 years for Pete's sake.

One half of that statement is supported by characters in game(Even the imperialized nords state it). The other half isn't stated by anyone except one dude in Falkreath.

If the nords really hated the other races so much, why are most the merchants in Windhelm non-nord? How the hell does Nurelion(Altmer) own 1 of the 2 actual storefronts in the marketplace? Niranye(altmer) has a stall as does Aval Atheron(Dunmer). Local guards refer you to Sadri's Used Wares(Dunmer) for business Why do they allow the EEC(Imperial) to trade in the city and commend you for helping them out with their pirate problem?

Why does Riften have so many non-nord merchants? 2 of them are argonians, a wood elf helps out the smith, and a dunmer works the marketplace.

I think it's more like Oslo wanting to succeed from the country, claiming they have no ruler ship of their own despite electing their local leaders who have quite a bit of power and are intern represented as a whole in a larger collection of government. The Nords have their own government, they just also belong to another government in which they have their representatives same as any other province.

Imperial and the Imperials are technically a reference to the native Human race of Cyrodiil, but is often used interchangeably as a reference to all the provinces of the Empire. I certainly use it in that way, especially when I talk of the Empire.

The fact remains that the stormcloak war cry is Skyrim belongs to the Nord. But anyway good points, but as I say before I don't belief that the entire stormcloak supporters are racist.

I believe it is more like Norway wanting independence from Danmark around 1814 without going into a union with Sweden than Oslo trying to secceed.

The Riften seems to have a integration policy, new comers have to conform or GTHO. No-one gets special treatment but no-one has to squat outside the gates either. For all their complaining note where the majority of the dunmer are.

The majority of the Dunmer were in Winterhold before the Sea of Ghosts thing. They probably only moved to Windhelm because it was closer.
