Almost 5 months later... what do you think of Skyrim?

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 1:09 pm

It is worth its money, no question here. Still, without rp'ing and (this one's huge) mods, the game would now entertain the dust if i acutally had a physical copy.

Gets better every time I download a mod.

It's one of the best single player games I've played for sure. I usually prefer casual hot seat type games.

It's a very good dungeon crawler that is in dire need of good writing. Let's hope the DLC will deliver.

I think after the dust settles it will claim my #1 spot of all time. I know upcoming DLC will cement it. I for one dont think its over-rated, or over-hyped. It received steady '9.5's' instead of 10's because of bugs for the most part. Thats very fair. The game accomplishes what most other games only have one dimension of. The problem is that when a game like this is created, some people expect some sort of fantasy/medieval setting 'simulation'. These people should realize that you can't have it all. If you want long, detailed dialogue choices then go to a game where exploration is the equivalent of half a hold of Skyrim such as Dragon Age. For every missing 'feature' theres something else added in its stead with unprecedented detail. Good riddance to 'Armorer' skill when i can create various stuff at detailed forges and work benches. I look at most of the game in this way, appreciating the detail that went into some of the more mundane tasks present in the game world instead of shallow statistic driven menus. As for the true 'haters', I only imagine attention hungry nerds eager to criticize every aspect of the game, yet hesitant to offer opinion as to what is a better game currently on the market Rpg-wise. These same people also foolishly note how much time they have invested in the game, which is sometimes hundreds of hours. If i 'hated' a game so much, i would barely play it. Im not some Bethesda fan-boy, im just anti 'mainstream hating nerd'.

If it's anything in the game that isn't related to lack of npc recognition, lack of quest directions and other journal related shenanigans, lack of consequences for completing major quests, small amount of spell tomes, the absolutely huge essential npc list, smithing and enchanting not having weighted progression like alchemy, lockpicking and speechcraft being of little value due to a too easy minigame and lack of more involved speech checks, short faction quest lines and the amount of race specific dialogue, then I love it.

I think it's great for the kind of game is it. I think many people expect an RPG with flashy skills and an epic story, with tons of choices, while it does have a little of that, that's not exactly what kind of game Skyrim is, it's a game for exploration adventure, and a little realism, witch is much different from your typical Fantasy RPG. That at least is what I see it as.

I don't play it nearly as much. Back to my MMO's. But I still think it's fun, and hop on it from time to time. I can't wait to see the expansions.

Boring as [censored] because it's shallow and repetitive.

I'd rather play KoA, Risen 2 or ME3, and I have and shall.

A very enjoyable RPG. One of the best this generation in fact, with it's fair share of flaws.

But overall i am a satisfied customer. The game met my expectations.

Yep, I find it a worthy successor to Oblivion and Morrowind myself. However, apparently despite my decades of PC role playing and running a pen and paper role playing campaign since the mid 80s I know nothing about the role playing genre though.

As an aside, I would like to see some improvements myself but I think any legit points get pretty buried in the need to trivilize any good points the game has.

After playing it for 200 hundred hours I can honestly say that Skyrim is the most disappointing game of 2011.

75% of the time I spend in Skyim has been wasted on looking for interesting stuff to do and unfortunately it was time wasted. Never has a game left me with such a shallow experience.

Five months already??? It still feels like two days ago when i picked up TES V Skyrim on release day. Everything feels very fresh and am running into tons of new content everyday and what seems like endless variations of npc ai Radiant behaviour.

I've only tried out like five mods thats how great Skyrim is on its own and i keep going to a modless setup just...because

Best Elder Scrolls chapter yet and as time consuming as my favorite TES 2 Daggerfall. To think Fallout 3 is just as eye popping attention catching in everything it does. Kind of hard to imagine they were both created within the same time frame.

Bethesda got everything right with Skyrim. People can complain about the supposedly console style ui but it works like a full moon in a clear cloudless night sky. Like lightning shattering the darkness of a haunted house and crashing thunder evoking dreadful fright. Yea it works :bunny:

I'm not nearly as enthused about the game now as I was before and shortly after the release date. I enjoy the game, but I find several areas to be lacking. Whether this is due to nostalgia or me outgrowing video games, I have not decided yet.

Well now that it's been some time I think it's overrated, overhyped, unbalanced, unrewarding, badly written, badly design, tedious, repetitive, annoying oh and not my cup of tea.

Haha, wow..

I think it's a very good game, one of my favorites. Best of 2011, but I think it fell short in a few minor areas, but I hope that we receive some outstanding DLC which adds new areas, creatures, weapons and most importantly, spells. :)

These posts make me laugh. Kind of like the posts on a video of Justin Bieber saying how lame he is. Why waste your time on a Justin Bieber video if you don't like him in the first place?

Maybe because people like the other elder scrolls games and are disappointed with this one.

Why the hell would anyone think that after Oblivion? I expected another Oblivion, and what I got was another Oblivion that's prettier and has more enjoyable combat, so perhaps my extremely low expectations have allowed me to enjoy the game...? Also, while I get where you're coming from it's hard to take you seriously when every post is chock full of so much hyperbole.

For context, I played TES: Arena the day it was released and I'm an RPG superfreak. The furthest thing from "casual" when it comes to RPGs. Play Skyrim as what it is (a fun action/adventure/exploration/RPG-lite) and it's a fun game. Lament about what you want it to be and it's easy to become an RPG "hipster" about it. Personally, I find it easier just to accept the fact that "hardcoe RPG" is not what Bethesda is aiming for and move on.
