Skyrim: The #2 Game of ALL TIME

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 2:20 pm

I wouldn't care, it's a horrendous game...

I woudn't go that far. Both Portal and Portal 2 had their merits as a puzzle, problem solve, mind phuuuuk game. The problem solving skills needed were a nice break from the easy sight'm and shoot'm platform.

When a game with 2~ hours of content is ranked #1 best game of all time then you know the list was compiled by a moron.

These "top 100 games of all time" are complete jokes, they never get it right and most games hardly earn there place, for me skyrim wouldn't be in the top 25. Portal wouldn't even be on the list.

They had this much better list from June 2010: http://www.pcgamer.com/2010/06/10/pc-gamer-top-100/

Although some games are still in disagreeable positions.

But hey, opinions are opinions.

I may be dating myself but if all time still means of all time should (one of) pac-man, donkey kong, gauntlet, galaga not be ranked among the top 100. You have to compare games across the decades along with the technology and the popularity for the time.

1. Final Fantasy VI
2. Dragon Age: Origins
3. Skyrim

At least that's my top 3.

Favourite series

1. Elder Scrolls
2.????
3.????

Dragon Age only has 2 games in the series and I only like FF6 in final fantasy. I like all Elder Scrolls equally so it's my favourite series. Deus Ex MIGHT be one of my favourite series but I'm only a bit over halfway through the first game. I've never played Invisible War and only played Human Rev at a friend's house.

Well, I think it's the best. Surely there are many disappoinments associated with it. But that's how good it is. The rating scale for this game goes to 11. You can make your own game with the mod kit. Not some RPG maker junk for a console, but you can litterally make your own game - within boundries, of course. I'd like to make a 13 level dungeon with all my own monsters and magic and items and puzzles, and traps and riddles, and sounds and music... each level of the dungeon would look and feel unique.

If only I had the time.

Of course, personal tastes come into the equation. I personally wouldn't play a real time strategy game if you paid me. For me, this game is right up my alley. This game borrows a lot from games like Dungeon Master, which had been my previous favorite, for an astonishing 25 years. And I've played thousands of games.

But just because it's my favorite doesn't mean I'm going to play it all the time, and nothing else, or that I could never be bored of it. It's just the bar for which all other games will be compared to, for me.

I think Skyrim just replaced Final Fantasy VII as "most overrated game" of all time.
Finally, someone who agrees with me! I actually was an RPG fan and enjoyed Final Fantasy games until this one. Every time I started playing it, I would start nodding off to sleep. I could not play this game for more than about 30 minutes at a time, and it was only because I kept hoping the fun would start. Absolute snooze fest. I actually bought it at the time when it was a new game, so it's not like I was trying to get into a dated game.

The fact that you have not considered either bioshock or fallout leads me to believe that you were clearly under the influence of an illegal substance or other legal mind altering substance. Yes, you are forgiven but don't let me see talk this talk again.

The first two fallouts svcked. Lol and Bioshock? I hope you meant system shock which by all accounts was pretty unique in its day (never played it) Bioshock is a good game but will people still be talking about it ten years from now?

Could somone please explain to me what makes Half Life 2 so great? Personally I just don't see it. I mean I enjoyed the game. It was fun and whatnot, but thats it. There was nothing that made me thing "Wow, this game is awesome.". What am i missing?

Half-Life 2 was an especially innovative game for the time period it was released in, not for its gameplay or story but for its technology. It was basically the introduction of the Source engine with beautifully implemented graphics and physics that set a new milestone for gaming.

The game itself was very great as well and one of my personal favorites, I loved the combination of gritty sci-fi and a thick dystopian atmosphere largely inspired by George Orwell's 1984. The characters were especially memorable as well, Alyx as a character is simply exceptional for the gaming industry.

The combination of all of these things are what gave it the status symbol it is today :)

As for the list itself, it's garbage. Less so if it was a quick top 100 or top 100 of the past five years, but all time? Baldur's Gate isn't even present as others have noted.

I guess I must be old. I never played Portal, never even seen it played. I kinda know what it is cause I saw it in a comic strip once.

One thing about the list - many games were better on the console than the PC. First-person shooters, hell anything looked better on TV. It's not surprising that those popular console games are farther down the list.

But not to have Baldur's Gate ANYWHERE on that list is a crime.

Albino is also missing Fallout and planescape too.

I don't see how people are putting Oblivion over Skyrim. Oblivion modded was good, but stack vanilla oblivion vs. vanilla skyrim and it's no contest. Anyway, that's just my opinion.

Here are some of my all-timers In no particular order. I'm a PC gamer, I could care less about console games:
Myth II
Tribes I & II
BF42
WoW
Silent Hill 2
Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3, Fallout NV & Skyrim (modded)

OH NO HE DIDN'T

LOL!!

Seriously, though, any "of all time" list is just nonsense.

Skyrim is definitely not my favorite game, but it's in the top 5, I guess. Not that I have a lot of contenders for the list. I'm not a "gamer".

The best PC game for me is The Last Express. Anyone remember it?

Yep, "all time." It's a seriously flawed list, like I said Baldur's Gate didn't make the list at all (some of you might not put it in your top 10, but top 100?! COME ON!!!) Half-Life made #38!! 38!!! What the hell is this?!

Batman: Arkham City got 32. Wow.
Superaged graphics and game mechanics drive games off of modern lists do to mass unappeal and disinterest.
