Skyrim: The #2 Game of ALL TIME

Sometimes I think Final Fantasy XI is more fun than Skyrim.

I believe you can't make a list for the "best game of all time" because it's subjective. The only fair way of doing it is if everyone in the world voted for what they think is the best game of all time, the game that comes out on top has to be considered the best.

I have a sneaking suspicion that you didn't read the OP.

You're suspicions are incorrect, which allows me to question your wits and intuition comfortably.

Some journalist decides his #2 game is Skyrim. Wow, allow me to prove him wrong by saying that my favourite title is Street Fighter 2!! Take that journalist!

The best PC game for me is The Last Express. Anyone remember it?
I remember that game, it made it onto their last list from memory.

i never liked portal 2, it was fun while it lasted but once you beat campaign and co-op with all DLC there is really nothing more you have to do

Eh, I've stopped caring about "best games ever" lists. Every gaming website and mag has its own list, and each one is different, depending on the editors' tastes and styles. It's completely subjective.

I love Skyrim a lot, but I wouldn't rate it at #2 of *all time* as far as my criteria of excellent games go. My top 5 list would look something like, Baldur's Gate 2 (including Throne of Bhaal), Mass Effect 1 and 2, Age of Empires 2 and the Jedi Knight games as one entry (Jedi Knight, Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast).

I'm RPG-heavy, but here's my top 15 PC game list that's based on fun, addictiveness, storyline & art (for their time/technology), and innovation:
  • Baldur's Gate 2/Throne of Bhaal
  • X-com
  • Diablo 2
  • Planescape: Torment
  • System Shock
  • Batman: Arkham Asylum
  • Half Life 1 (couldn't play HL2 - made me nauseous)
  • Dungeon Keeper
  • Everquest 1
  • Skyrim
  • Ultima Underworld
  • Civ IV
  • Jagged Alliance 2
  • Starcraft
  • Thief

In 2010, PC Gamer ranked Portal at #17.
In 2011, it was #8.
Now, in 2012, Portal is #1.

What does this mean?

It means that if this trend continues, then in 2013, Portal will have become so "best" that it won't even appear on PC Gamers top 100 list. It's innate "bestness" will become imperceptible to the human eye.

Or, it could mean that these lists are pointless and indicative of nothing.

For this to be a legit poll, you would need 100 people who had played all 100 games through and through.

/end thread.

I think Skyrim just replaced Final Fantasy VII as "most overrated game" of all time.

No no no, that's imposhible!

Portal at #1? Really? Don't get me wrong, I liked Portal, though I don't think it was the "#1 game of all time."

I do think Skyrim is the best game I have played in recent memory, and I have played all the other TES games going back to Arena too, never could get into portal, don't see the fuss.

To be more precise:

"Opinions are like testicles. You kick them hard enough, it doesn't matter how many you've got." - Varric

On topic: Best game in history is definietly Drakan: Order of the Flame. Oldie but goldie. I have played it through 200+ times by now. It was my first real game as a kid and it's still closer to my heart than anything else. Now that game made dragons awesome.
