Unofficial DLC Discussion [Possible Spoilers] - Thread #6

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 11:26 pm

Scale is kind of pointless either way. Vvardenfell actually makes up half of the actual province of Morrowind's landmass, but in relation to size in game terms from Morrowind Skyrim, it's around 1/3 as big. I think the whole of Vvardenfell's Mainland could fit in all of Whiterun Hold.

Wait what? Let's get our context straight. In the Lore, Vvardenfell is almost as big as Skyrim. Morrowind as a province is bigger.

In the game Morrowind versus the game Skyrim, Vvardenfell is about as big as the entire province of Skyrim.

In the game Skyrim versus the game Skyrim, Vvardenfell is this very small shadow of itself, smaller than it should be, or was. It would, like you say, probably fit in the Pale or the Rift with ease. That tells me that they weren't going for realism or use, but for looks.

Obviously One-Hand and Heavy Armor will be necessary. Considering the Blades also worked as spies, you'll want to delve into Sneak as well. Some form of ranged combat to fight dragons while they're in the air, Smithing to make your weapons and armor stronger, and Restoration to help heal you (or maybe Alchemy to craft potions and poisons).

Personally, I've always found myself maxing all the stats just to have access to all 80 perks, and only putting perks into the skills I still intended to use.

Here's a build sorta based on what I told you:

I don't think it's by any means the definitive build for a Blade, but it might be to your liking.

Adding to this, as it didn't warrant a new thread.

Beth just posted this on FB with the comment "tomorrow" - wonder what's happening? Woot!

I dont know, has Bethesda ever used a CGI cinematic to promote Skyrim or Skyrim related products? Every promotional video for Skyrim I have seen uses in game assets so why would they do differently to promote DLC? Honestly I dont know what to think, the pic looks like it could fit the grittier style they were going for in Skyrim but I gotta put my money on something else.

What are you even saying?

In terms of physical size, Vvardenfell from Morrowind is approximately one-third the size of Skyrim. In Lore, Vvardenfell should be about the size of Skyrim. The scale used in Skyrim is irrelevant. Honestly, if Vvardenfell in Skyrim was as big as it's Supposed to be (IE, about the size of Skyrim) I'd have an easier time believing it's "Just for show".

The fact that it appears Smaller in Skyrim could mean something, it could also mean, and probably means absolutely nothing. My point is, scale, except for outliers, is irrelevent for Proof. That's why I was focusing on Mundane details you wouldn't normally place if it was just an aesthetic asset.

All this is kind of pointless, because I still think this is related to RAGE.

I was confused. How do you get the conclusion that Morrowind worldspace is 1/3 the size of the Skyrim worldspace? To me, they seemed about the same. I'm just wondering if you have an objective measuring tool, I would love to check that out (with Oblivion too)

Vvardnefell is only like 5SQ Miles, these are just the measurements Bethesda has given us.

I totally agree with you though, Morrowind felt so much bigger. I think it was because of the Mist and mountains. When I installed MGE, I had to lower the Draw Distance, because it made Morrowind feel way too small.

I forgot the Blades carried shields. I've never been too big on Block, although some of the later perks seem like fun. I just don't see the point in letting the enemy hit me at all when I can just try to kill them quicker. Block is just something I level to get more perks, but I've never found a point to keep using after that.

With 1.5 I think they added shield kill moves. Saw a death blow where my character pummled someone to death with one.

Yep, I saw a killmove where my character face bashed the enemy, then slit their throat with the edge of the shield on the second swing!
Throat slicing with the edge of a shield! Brutality!

Bethesda have done some great things with Skyrim and I enjoy playing it enormously.

However, I fail to see their logic in the way they are alienating their loyal PC users and modders by claiming DLC content will be Xbox exclusive. It is thanks to those modders that Beth's games are so popular and long-lived, yet it feels like they're thumbing their collective nose at the PC players/modders by making this content unavailable, even if we get it eventually. Why not just make it available to everyone all at the same time? We PC players bought your game, so why exclude us all of a sudden?

To me it just seems like a bad marketing decision, not a good one. Excluding one group of faithfuls for the sake of another. Not logical. Not right.

Sorry if I'm raking up something already discussed. I don't post here very often, but this annoyed me enough to make me want to stand up and question this.

Ensnaring companies like Beth into making DLC exclusives and also pressuring them to make Kinect functionality is part of "Extend". They are attempting to force out the PC and PS3 markets.

It gets them more money from microsoft perhaps? It's not so different from their choice to appeal to more casual gamers, and people who have not even played previous games, over people who have been fans of the company for many years.

Yep, discussed back when the the game was close to being released.

Money talks unfortunatly, Microsoft purchased this right from bethesda for a number of reasons.

Most likely the DLC will only be Xbox exclusive for 30 days. That is the agreement M$ has with Bethesda.

What DLC is Microsoft getting that everyone isn't?

A gimmicky Kinect feature that nobody cares about is hardly reason to be up in arms.

DLC won't be xbox exclusive. Bethesda is not thumbing their nose at anyone. PC gets mods and the creation kit. PC gets all patches first. PC gets beta testing. etc.. Xbox gets DLC one month before PC and PS3 because microsoft paid for that luxury. It's not a thumbed nose to anyone. PS3 gets the short end of all the Skyrim sticks.

OP, you've seriously misrepresented the reality of this issue.

(edit - additional) Also, are your referring to the kinect thing as "DLC" ... hmm, I didn't realize that xbox's proprietary controller was "downloadable content".
