Dragonborn the worst bethesda dlc ever

Post » Mon Feb 04, 2013 8:26 am

I guess I'm just super passionate about Skyrim, just like all of you are, that I'm looking at it from my own perspective and you your own. Your right, people should be allowed to voice they're opinion and I apologize for attacking those who I disagreed with. I'm just really supportive of Betheada and I understand some of fustrations. I have my own views and many of you have yours. I guess one thing we can agree on is that we are passionate fans who want the best for the game we play. :)

I'm not saying that people shouldn't voice they're opinion but lets be realistic here. Dragon riding is very overrated. Not only that, but on the Xbox, the loading of textures and areas would be bad, and Skyrim really isn't that big so it's essentially pointless. However, they did implement it in a way that could work and makes sense, even if this isn't the dream many wanted. All I'm saying is that, while people whine and complain about all this, your just regurgatating the same stuff over and over again and nothing's coming from it. You focus on the negatives because your greedy. You want everything and you want it now, which is sad. Why didn't Bethesda do some things the way we wanted, I don't know, I can only speculate. But they gave quite a bit, many things we didn't think we wanted. Nothing good will come from all this complaining, especially considering its not constructive but rather venomous. If you want to vent, do it elsewhere because honestly, I'm sick of people attacking Bethesda regardless of all the great things they've given us. Yes it's buggy, yes they are things we wish they added and they may still add. What I want to see is more constructive criticism that actually is criticism and less whining about how your super high expectations didn't come to pass. Nothing was promised that didn't come into the DLC but rather many assumptions of what fans thought would be in. And because of this assumptions, when they weren't in the DLC, people get angry at the wrong person instead of realizing that they overhyped themselves. Stop blaming Bethesda for something they didn't promise or say.

Dragon riding: separate world spaces. It's an interesting option, the way they did it... They could've also implemented a free roam that took place in it's own world space above Skyrim... Don't need detailed texture when you're that high... Ever do the Daedric "Meridia" quest? Remember how high you were? Anyways, I don't see why they couldn't have done it that way. Hell, even add some dragon on dragon dog fights. Once you lowered your dragon to a certain point, it would have entered into a loading screen and then you could've landed in that general region you were flying above.

There- constructive.

I love the game for what it is... But I'm not disillusioned by it either. The game was... great. Not epic. Not Superb. It was fun and it added alot of great content like armor and weapons. And my favorite part are the black books abilities. The Carved Nordic weaponry in my opinion is the greatest looking bit of weaponry I've seen so far. I felt under-cut when it comes to the MQ though. As well as Apocrypha... I LOVED Apocrypha, It looked amazing, but it was a tourist bus ride that you can't take twice. I love exploring and I don't feel like I got the chance to explore with Apocrypha.

Were-Bears... The fans of were-bears and spears should both be peeved. They got a right to be. "Look what you can't be/Look what you can't have," is basically what was translated to me. I'm sure they have their reasons, and there's always still a chance to give folks the ability to wield spears or become were-bears but for now... I think folks just want to hear the Devs reasons for making things/adding things the way they did. And no, I'm not saying that the Dev's HAVE to give a reason, but it'd be nice to hear why they made things the way they did. I'm sure that would curve many complaints.

Note that MC himself implied he would be doing stuff on Miraak.
Matt Carofano? I think you meant Michael Kirkbride, aka "MK."

Anyway, I think I established a good point in this thread about nonplayable spears and werebears. I can't think of much more to add to that at the moment.

. . .haters going to hate :/ what can you do *shrug*

we come from oblivion that only had two real DLC, the rest were one off homes for different styles of play. KotN that was one long quest that offered 1-2? unique looking armors if i recall correctly. and shivering isles. the latter is obviously awsome it had alot of content, items, places, beautifull colors, interesting NPCs, etc.

however in none of those did they actually add *features* to the game.

Skyrim has:
-overhauled the water effects for free
-added vampire lord similar to werewolf form
-added new perk trees for specific features
-included the ability to actually ride around on a dragons, even if only to say we did.
-added new features to weapons (miraaks sword, bloodskal blade)
-etc.

I think they added what they could as a shout out to the comunitee's wants, not to try and troll us. people moaned about spears, werebears, and dragon riding. and personally if i were Beth i would have just released a statement saying "No" so that people would stop moaning
if they are working on other things and cannot fit in the time in to add those things, thats fine.

Personally and as the materialistic person that i am i would prefer no more new features and just butloads of new and unique armor's and weapons  they can keep working on the new weapon effects though, that was cool

People are also allowed to not have to see rants 24/7, just as much as you all are allowed to vent/rant. Honestly, they should just open a rants section, so this type of thing has its own place and everybody wins. At least I would.

Everyone, and I mean everyone, would congregate to that section though. This game in general has its ups and downs, and one big circle jerk about how great this game is doesn't help hide any of its flaws.

It would keep rants there, and not HERE. That is my point, and it would work. End of story. But thank you for picking my particular post to try and debunk it, I love it when people do that as a means to make their post look even better than the last. People don't want to see others complaining in the hints and spoilers sections. That isn't what this section is about.

Before I start tearing the dlc apart byte by byte, I just want to mention that this dlc had the most potential of any dlc ever released by bethesda. I will come up with reasons as to why the decisions made in this dlc were the single most [censored], lazy, stupidest decisions ever made by a game company with so much to work with. So lets begin shall we:
1. Dragon riding:
Dragon riding is the laziest thing in this dlc. It would be stupid to think that this would be like horse riding, but the dragons just fly pointlessy in circles from where you tame them and what's stupid is that they cover vast quantities of ingame land with thier circles so it's clear that you could at least make a custom marker on your map and have them fly to it with the technological limits at hand
2. Werebears:
Werebears while not a common new enemy are still prevalent in the lands of solstheim. Thier presence should mean one thing to a seasoned elder scrolls player: get bit by one and become one. But even without being a werewolf or a vampire if you get enough bites to become swiss cheese the disease will not be passed to you. This makes me believe that this was unfinished and rushed out the door.
3. Morang Tong:
The morang tong are indeed in this dlc and as you know they are the thieves guild, dark brotherhood, and forsworn on some very heavy steroids. Thier assasins are in this dlc and you will get hits put on you by people you did wrong against. They even have a headquarters for God's sake and you still can't be one. Not only that that thier armor is not even a different color, its just plain chitin armor with different stats.
4. Apocrypha:
Apocrypha's design is just plain genius, but some of you already know the nature of this realm: It's not free world. There is only the bits of apocrypha traveled to when opening a black books and all worlds are not interconnected. Once again the walls move on thier own and apocrypha is magnificiently designed, but that doesn't change the stupidity.
5. New unique armors
The new unique armors are not even reskins let alone unique designs. They share the exact same appearance as other armors from the dlc with different stats. The enchantments are still cool but in another [censored] move you can't disenchant them.
6. Spears:
This lower on the list because It doesn't add potential to the dlc in and of itself but the way they are implemented is so [censored] that it deserves a place on this list. Spears are used as arrows. You heard that right and they have the same strength as iron arrows to boot.
7. New armor useless:
As you know the dlc has massively harder enemies and quests than the main dlc and the quests are normally scaled at about level 50, but the new armor types are incredibly weak when compared to daedric despite the land and general quests being so much harder than normal skyrim, what makes this even more [censored] is that the game gives you massive money rewards for certain quests (10000 septims!) and acknowledges that the rewards should be more worth it.
if I missed anything let me know.

Probably already been pointed out but

1) Yeah I wish it was like horse riding, but the reason you are going around in circles is because you haven't selected a location on your map for it to fly to

3) I actually think the way they did Apocrypra was the best way to go around it. They made it as if each layout was the book you were exploring, essentially creating a plane of oblivion entirely unique to the others we have seen so far, and did you really expect the realm of a prince that doesn't even have a form to be geographically logical? It wouldn't make sense if it was just a regular map area you could explore

4) But they did add new armor so essentially the unique armour is a different model to that we have in vanilla skyrim

5) TBF they never said there would be spears, and they would have to make entirely new character models if they wanted the use unique attack moves, (the one in the gamejam used a mixture of two handed sword and battle axe I believe)

6) By the time you get to level 50 the armor you choose is more based on looks than anything else, my lvl 59 is in nordic armor, which has a lot less armour rating than the dragonplate but the enchantments make up for it

What's with all this complaining? I mean seriously, you were given so much great content with a Morrowind setting and feel, making it feel like a proper expansion. However, instead of enjoying it, many of you always focus on the negatives and whine, whine, whine. If you don't like the DLC for some odd reason, that's fine but honestly, what's the point in writing this? To vent your fustrations that, to be honest, aren't very valid. Dragon riding is in the DLC, were you promised it would be full out dragon riding, no, but there is dragon riding and it does work for the limitations of the console. You weren't promised were bears, but you got them, not in the fashion you may have been hoping for, but they are there. Apocraphya was by far one of the coolest places that I've been in, and I loved the really cool designs of the enemies, as well as the awesome powers you get from the black books. And then there were spears. In no mention in the trailer or the press before release did bethesda show or tell us that you could wield a spear. No they showed the Rieklins with them and that's it. Sure alot of these things in the trailer and being in Solesthiem looked like they would be given us, however many of you decided to hype yourself up and that's technically your fault, not Bethesdas. It's crazy how so many look for perfection and want everything like spoiled little child. Why not just appreciate what you have been given and wait. Never say never, especially when more DLC and free updates are on the way. And if they never come, then so be it. I understand that you want to be passionate about something you love and that's great. But expecting everything and complaining when you don't get it, it's simply childish. Be grateful for the awesome DLC that they gave us and look at the positives because I can assure you, there are many. And if you still disagree, then please, let the rest of us who do enjoy it, enjoy it in peace without all this trolling and negativity. Thank you.

Amen to that. And so many of these same people were praising the dlc on the threads, talking about how good this was, how good that was, and they really really like the dlc, and then one person comes along and it is complain time. All of a sudden it is your right, and I am wrong, so therefore I do not like this, I do not like that. Whine, whine, grumble, grumble. For my age I am probably one of the biggest kids here, along with others my age, but if people do not have something good to say about something, take it up with them instead of making "whine" threads that alot of us are getting tired of seeing, especially when 20 minutes ago there was praising.

I'm glad to at least be able to play and enjoy the DLCs for Skyrim.

The folks on PS3 platforms are barely able to play the base game.

But then that's not their fault or even Bethesda's. That's Sonys problem IMO for building a machine that can only support GoW and CoD ... lol.

If I wanted more customization of the current stuff I'd prob just buy the game for my PC. But I'm content with the base game on my Xbox360.

The DLC is awesome and Definately worth buying.

Hear you there also. I really feel for the ps3 players, but I believe it will be alright in the end. Skyrim is a great game, one that I truly enjoy, and even though I do not care for vampires, sorry vampire lovers, I still enjoyed the Dawnguard dlc, mostly for the spells and new locations, and new adventures and new plunder, etc. Hearthfire was a joy, because there is just something about building your own that gives satisfication. Dragonborn is also very enjoyable, even if I never have played Morrowind. I just love the new adventures, the new plunder, the new robes, the new locations, and the new puzzles, even if some of them did have me mind bozzled. When I thingk of all that went into trying to make Skyrim, I think it took 5 years or more, and then try to add content to it, I wonder sometimes how they do it all.

This [censored] spelled Morag Tong, 'MORANG Tong'.

I refused to read anymore.

Dragonborn is the best, if not one of the top 3, dlcs Bethesda has ever released.

I am a sorceress mostly, so the robes are my favorite along with the spells. Now my sneaky nord archer just loves the Stahrim set from the pirates in Deathbrand. As far as the dragon riding, I tried it, used the commands in the help menu, and after an hour finally got it down. I can take it or leave it. More leave it, for like everyone else who plays Skyrim, I am the Dragonborn. The DOVahKiiN. I kill dragons, not ride them. lol

1. Dragon riding would be super hard to control, and you would be whining about how you keep crashing

And 2, stop with the werebear and spear nonsense. Pointy sticks and werewolf knockoffs wont make the game any better.

And C, apocryphia is not open world because beth had to deal with the other open world you seem to ignore.

E, the new armors are awesome and far from reskins or similarity. And if the armor has a rating higher than 570 or so, it is still capped at blocking 80% of damage.

Bethesda had a lot to do in the DLC, from a new open world to about 300 new quests just waiting to be found. Be grateful.

People are entitled to their opinions and all that, but what I wanna know is what dlc does the op think is better and why, because this dlc is the best in my book. I enjoyed everything including the dragonriding and the spear joke.
Complaints number 5 and 7 were the silliest ones, especially since NO ARMOR SHOULD EVER BE STRONGER THAN DAEDRIC, unless we're given a good reason for it. You don't even need all that damn protection anyway. New armor isn't about the protection and whatnot anyway. Its about customization for your character. To help with rp. This is a rp game after all.

8. miraak is underwhelming, despite being marketed as "your deadliest adversary". he's nothing more than HM's little pawn

the only reason why people rate this dlc highly is because it gives them nostalgia. without this, the dlc is just average

Right, because everyone's played Morrowind and Bloodmoon...I for one do not love Morrowind as much as everyone else, Bloodmoon as well, probably because I played after Skyrim, so Nostalgia is very low for me, and as someone who isn't clouded by nostalgia I still rate it the best, and I know I'm not the only one.
