IGN Top 100 RPG's of all time.

Instead you found people who say "I like crap, that anology isn't going to work, sorry."

No respite from pedantry on BGSF.
Are you saying that you enjoy eating crap? Well, seeing as you play JRPGs you must be used to swallowing turd.

Just joking, ...or am I?

Yes I am.

I don't know why gaming journalist's feel the need to make these opinion lists and I hope they don't get paid to do them.

How many people will look through that list and think "wow IGN, you just read my mind"? Probably about three.

How many people will look through that list

Stop right there and you get the overall point. Everyone here discussing how silly the list was looked through it and was exposed to all those ads. It works, even if it doesn't get them any praise.

In fact, the sillier the rankings, the more complaints it generates and the more people go to check it out. I'm sure Fallout New Vegas being ranked #89 and Mass Effect 2 being ranked #57 were, in effect, editorial trolling.

Seeing Illusion of Gaia on there makes me hopeful that Terranigma might actually make an appearance despite never being ported to the US.

Some of these choices are a bit odd.

Monster Hunter Tri isn't really an RPG. And the original Final Fantasy > Fallout New Vegas, FFIX, and a host of other great RPGs? I'm a FF fan myself, but just because it started off the series doesn't make it a better game.

What's wrong with ME 2's spot?

The Mother series better make the list. Those games are classic.

What's wrong is that they rank crap like Monster Hunter tri higher than ME2.

Pool of Radiance was rated 6.0 and Tales of Destiny was rated 7.5 by IGN but are nevertheless listed higher on the IGN top 100 than games given much higher scores by ... IGN.

I honestly think we should make our own top 100. I don't know how all of us would manage it though. A gigantic poll? Then arrange them in order of most to least votes?

Its amazing how good of trolls they are at IGN. Butt-hurt fans everywhere from something as simple as a list. I have to give them props for how good they are at getting people riled up.

It's not really something to get upset about anyway. It's a subjective list, as all lists of this type are.

1-Morrowind
2-Fallout 1
3-Daggerfall
4-Arena
5- Fallout 2

I see nothing wrong with holding our own list.....

Yes, we make should make our own list of best RPGs.

The only think that I ask is that you only plug in games that I like and put them in the order that I want or I will raise a [censored]-kicking fit about how everyone except me are a bunch of mainstream-casual-Nazi-Commie-terrorist-Hamburglar-supporting gamers who listen to Justin Bieber and read Twilight.

Of course, but as I cited before, they had one criteria: faithfullness to classical RPG elements. That's it. Arranging a list just based on that is necessarily subjective, but at the same time at least it has something quasi-concrete principle. Its not a bad concept to start with, but you can tell already that IGN failed so bad ...

We have a poll taken from suggestions in a suggestions thread with 100 options. The game that gets the most votes is number 1, second most is number two, then number three.

Only first hundred suggestions get in though and you ca only suggest one.

My sarcasm detector doesn't work right now so I'm not sure If you're being serious or not. I admit I haven't played the multiplayer so maybe it gets better that way, but as a single player rpg the game is horrible (In my humble opinion).

I don't agree with the list at all. For starters, I don't think JRPGs should be on the same list with western RPGs. They tend to have a very linear level progression, pre-made characters, no real choices and consequences and are usually very linear. The girls look nice though, I'll give them that.

Mass Effect 2 and 3 are the same, aside from pre-made characters. Deus Ex has a pre-made character. Might & Magic is the most linear "RPG" I've ever played.

That what I was talking about http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1410931-ign-top-100-rpgs-of-all-time/page__view__findpost__p__21540018 - why would it be a problem to include JRPG's if IGN has that one criteria? If they have the flaws you mentioned, they shouldn't be too high at the list. That's all. Same goes for duneon crawlers from the 80's or the classics from the mid-late 90's. See, this is the real power of that criteria, its mostly indepdent from the games technical aspects and style.

An RPG is just as good as much it is faithful to classical RPG elements. Period. I can totally agree with that concept.

As far as i'm concerned Mass Effect shouldn't even be as high as 57. No need for your sarcasm detector either because I couldn't be more serious.
