Unofficial DLC Discussion [spoilers] - Thread #2

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 11:37 pm

Aside from anything involding the Thalmor, which I see as possibly a no-brainer...I would like to see some exploration of our character's ultimate fate and state of being. Our character, literally being the dragonborn is not the same as other people because of our soul, and that should be expounded upon in my opinion. This could really be an opportunity to take us places and show us things never seen before in the series, further unraveling the truth behind the game world's existence, and its divinities/cosmology.

Another thing that could be addressed I believe, are the remaining dragons and how they would be dealt with. Now naturally, as they are intelligent, I see the possibility of them going into hiding again, some perhaps however growing bold enough to try and rally others to a new cause, and others possibly attempting to coexist with the other races through various means. Preferably, the ramifications of the dragons return is fully closed, either they are here to stay for better or for worse, or they are wiped out again. No ambiguity in that regard.

As for what I would absolutely hate to see in DLC, this is my personal preference but:

Questlines/stories/areas that are completely unrelated to the overarching plot and development of the world and our character. Things like Mothership Zeta = BAD, like Broken Steel/Fo:NV = GOOD. Overall, I want to see additional content that is relevant, not some massive red herring or goose chase. If we are randomly shipped off to some far off place like Gideon in Black Marsh, it better deal with something serious there, like something political involving the An-Xileel.

Nothing fully devoted to the Daedra lords. We had plenty of that in Oblivion, and the presence of the Princes is already very rampant in the base game. Returning old Daedra types as enemies and summons is fine, but I would vastly prefer not being the lapdog or pawn of the Daedra again, or get involved in any of their nonsense as a major plot of the plot.

As Todd said, the world is large enough as it is, so they will aim to improve the game instead of adding more landmass. With that in mind, I think, and hope, that they will add new weapon types (an exotic weapons skill tree maybe?), new spells (maybe even a new spell school), and a new guild or two.
Wait. What? He said that he wasnt gona focus on small dlc packages. instead he said that he was gona make large expansion packs.

Reading the Atlas of Dragons, it says there is a very powerful Dragon still living in Morrowind that the dragonguard didnt kill. They tried multiple times, but failed each one. Sounds like an excuse to go back to Morrowind. Killing a dragon that no one else could? Yeah, I'm up for that. There's also a Dragon living in the mountains north of Bruma, also very powerful. You also have the whole Thalmor war going on in Cyrodiil. I hope we go back to those two places.

Also, don't people find it strange, that you can only wear ONE ring, instead of more (2 or multiples)?

Ok, I noticed that there are a number of hints of what one DLC will be. The war with the Thalmor will start again or as it would be formally called The Great War II. It will only be able to be started if you complete the civil war missions. It is unclear if the DLC will take you to a new county but i can not image the DLC not taking you to the Summerset Isles. How can you win a war if you do not invade your enemies capitol?

How do I know this will be a DLC? A number of lines both General Tullius and Jarl Ulfric say during and at the end of the Civil War quests. Ulfric's Plan: 1.Break from the empire 2.Invade Summerset Isles. Also General Tullius at the end of the quest chain says something close to "I have a feeling we will be needing your help again very soon but for now the gods have a different destiny for you.".

Another hint to a Thalmor war DLC: The Thalmor Dossiers in the thalmor embassy suggest that they are preparing to make a final blow for the empire soon. Also you never got to kill the leader of the Thalmor embassy which most likely means she will be reappearing in this DLC if it happens.

This dlc would require a massive update to the entire country of skyrim being that the people of the whole land would need new responses to the now changing state of rule. For example: The Talos priest in whiterun would have to not [censored] about the thalmor once they are defeated etc. and instead give thanks to the dragonborn for restoring his god etc.

DLC Suggestions and Ideas: Todd Howard said they don't know what they will do for DLC's, but i have no doubt that he has some comprehension of what they will be.

However, in case they really do need ideas I would like to share one which fits in the story AND brings back a number of popular relics from one of Oblivion's past DLC. I am suggesting a return of the Knights of the Nine. Now hear me out before you judge me. Here's the story...

Cyrodiil is in ruins the Knights of the Nine are being hunted by the Thalmor for worship of Talos. They hear rumors that Skyrim allows free worship of Talos and plan to take the relics there for safe keeping. When they arrive they find the Thalmor still have a pressence in Skyrim and though it is not as strong as that in cyrodiil they still decide to split the relics and go into hiding each one hiding a relic in there own way creating tests for a knight strong enough to carry them against this new threat to the Nine Divine, all the while the Thalmor hunt the Knights down one by one but are unable to locate the relics that they had hid. Until only one Knight remains. That's when you come in. You are approached by one of the Thalmor Agents looking for the last of the Knights and offers you a reward for his finding. Which unknown to the agent, that you will become his ultimate down fall. Which you then tract down the Knight to a new hidden stronghold which the knights built in the past years before splitting up. upon entering you find the Knight and the true quest begins.

Another thing i could see happening is the two dlc's being one in the same being they both would have the Thalmor as a common enemy.

Ill leave Bethesda up to the rest of the story to do and change as they please.

I think this is a very doable DLC and fits the story perfectly. It even sticks to the lore and legacy of the Divine Crusader Pelinal Whitestrake the bane of elven kind if i am not mistaken. It would also bring back the very popular Crusader's relics in a new way that makes sense. What do you think?

Other DLC Hints: Falmer/Dwemer disappearance DLC- A loading screen topic talks about how they don't know how the Dwemer disappeared. This seemed like a very random loading screen topic in comparison to others which hints to me a returning of the Dwemer or something like that. Which would be interesting to see if they do this because it could open up a whole new thing in TES 6 when ever that comes out in a couple years where you could actually play as one of the dwemer but that's another topic entirely.

as i see a lot of ideas have been thrown for a DLC.
here are my 2 cents. sorry if somebody else put it before, but ihere goes.

TRAPS to be constructed by the player:
to be incuded under the smithing skill, just beneath of arcane, with a -10lvl prerequiste from arcane
the objects required to make traps are already available:
example:
- leather strips are the trigger
- various pots and urns found in the game can be used to hold the "unhealthy" potion
- ingredients are used to make the potion.
- embalming tools are to be used as another trigger or holding the leather strips trigger line in the place, to make a ranged manual trigger for the player (eg. make the enemy come to your direction and when on the X-spot, the player pulls the line to drop on the enemy's head the surprise)

- antother one would be the usage of embalming tools as fragment elements for a nail pipe bomb
- linen for a molotov cocktail (used with some fiery potion)
- axes, daggers and other weapons to be set in traps like in the first example with line triggering the weapon (eg. the swinging axes from various dungeons)
- bear traps.

these traps should be learned the same way as alchemy ingredients, or manualy, from books and secret places.

hope this parks an idea in some dev's mind and gets put in practice.
a low level fighter might stand a chance using pasive agresion

In terms of dream DLC (unlikely to happen), I would like to see The Great War 2, or Black Marsh, or Elsweyr.

me to, my favourte races are Khajit > Argonian so i would love to see there home lands. although i would like to Elsweyr in a whole new game the jungle / wastlands has alot of potential if you ask me.

----

for Skyrim i want to see the Volkihar (spelling?) and more of the Thalmor. i also would say Redguards land isnt out of the question seeing as you helped the Al'Akir or that women depending on your choice not really a hint at an expansion but it is a possibility.

Skyrim DLC - Tusks of the North

After centuries of silent plotting, being ridiculed and used as mere target practice for too long the Horkers of Skyrim shall rise up to make a difference with the help of flora and fauna. Harboring an eternal hatred toward men, mer and beast kind alike they want to invade all of Tamriel and slaughter it's feeble citizens. Side with these fearsome creatures and earn their trust to lead the army of posinous plants and deadly beasts against the world or unite the provinces of Tamriel to defeat the rebeling forces of nature.

Make it happen, Bethesda. Horkers rule.
I was making a NPC-like charcter, in tribute to Nordike. Lead some horkers into dawnstar (I didn't want to kill them).
The horkers killed 4 people, 2 of which are the mine owners, 2 that are mine workers. This one guard never attacked until the horkers attacked her.
I killed her as for vengeance for Leigleif

One of the most well known daedric princes is Azura. In morrowind, oblivion and skyrim, Azura seems to be on the topic the most. E.g. the moment u walk into riverwood after released from helgen, ask for rumours, boom azura shrine.

So what i m thinking is, if gamesas wants to make a new Daedric plane, Azura's plane will definitely win my vote. I forgot what her name of the plane is, moonglow or something, but based on the description it is very very very very beautiful. So i m going with Azura's Plane as the DLC if daedric lord planes are going to be added.

If not, no not the dwemers. They are already gone. A DLC on them will most likely be huge, so i dont vote dwemers. Instead i vote for elsewhere :D

I would like to see something that adds complexity to the world.

Like: Progress in quests have effects on the world and how people reacts.

Like: "vs quests" that can be done solo or in cooperation with other factions.

For example:

"Vs the Thalmor", (or helping the thamor) The Thalmor must be driven out from skyrim and their evil plans layed bare for the empire to see. Potential Allies: either the blades led by Delphine, (Questline begins when Esbern is assasinated by Thalmor agents) or the stormcloaks (or a less racist Talos cult). If you are an elf, you get the option to help the Thalmor and becomes the enemy of both the blades, the stormcloaks and Talos worshippers in general.

"Vs the Dark brotherhood". You thought you destroyed the dark brotherhood? Only locally. A quest starts with an assassination attempt and the dragonborn goes up against the Cyrodiil gang operation out of their new HQ in Bruma. You travel there for the climactic final showdown.

etc.

Having it that you need to be a Elf to side with the Thalmor? Sure I can see lore reasons for that, but that's just going to far. It's like enforcing the player to be a nord to a stormcloak. Lore wise it would make sense, but hey, if I want a Khajit to help the Thalmor, I should have the option right?
As for the Dark Brotherhood, your mistaken. The sanctuary is the last one in all of Tamrieal. One point of that questline is you are rebuilding the LAST of the Dark Brotherhood

You people go on and on about killing Thalmor. Why not give us a option to help them? I've always wanted to join them. But for the love of Talos the eight, please don't kill them off, or have some sort of "Great War II". Expand on them, but leave them open for the next Elder scrolls game

Underworld takeover - An idea i've been working on. The central idea is that the vampires and werewolves join forces to claim skyrim as their own. This idea would give players many choices.
Just to name a few; Chose to help the people of skyrim by uniting the stormcloaks and imperials to fight against the underworld. Another option is to chose the underworld side and either become a vampire or werewolf and awaken the draugr, skeletons, wisps etc to take over Skyrim. An option in the "Underworld" side is to betray one of your allys to try to claim glory for your race be it werewolf or vampire. An option for the "good guys" would be to seek help from the dragons, thalmor and neighbouring countries.

Just something i'd like to see.

I like the idea of the DLCs being in overarching story against the Thalmer. Maybe they'll make expansion stories for guild leaders too.

I want the dragon armor to actually be worth the perk. Daedric is better all around and is a perk under plus you get weapons out of it, though this understandable due to the rarity of daedric hearts. What they could have done is to either flip the skill so that daedric requires level 100 smithing or they could keep the perk system for smithing the way it is but add weapons that are stronger than daedric to the the dragon list that require a rare drop from a dragon to manufacture (Ex: Dragon sword:3 leather strips,2 iron ingots, and 1 dragon fang). Another cool idea would be to add a passive effect of minus X% to dragon shout time/addition to shout power/something else regarding dragon shouts when you wear a full set.

you should get to smith arrows.

more unique two handed weapons

Ebony blade should be able to continue to grow in power past 30 health absorb. Also desplaying the power of the health absorb would help.

dragons don't seem to use most of their shouts(i've only seen Alduin use Fus dos Rah), they should some how.

More dragon shouts. I want to use the fire/ice breaths/balls that the dragons use. Or maybe increase evolution of certain shouts some how, like finding a word wall that increases the power of certain shouts.

Paarthanax should have more shoutes to meditaite on besides Fus,Fiem, and Yol. Is there no love for Ice breath or Whirlwind sprint.(possible whirlwind sprint meditation power=using the shout to crash through enemies

I am still convinved that the archway near Stendaar's Beacon is related to a DLC. Here is hoping that we can visit Vvardenfell again! *crosses fingers*

Seems unlikely, tbh...
Are people still on about this?

Did you not know about the TWO other gates to other places? One back down to Cyrodiil and the other to High Rock(?).

The one thing I would not want to see for a DLC as a PC player is weapons and armor/horse armor, IMO the modding community has that one covered with some awesome mods.

Things I would love in a DLC

1. More places to explore(another landmass), it seems like TES game is getting smaller and smaller. I loved the epic size of Daggerfall, I do understand it was all generated so it was easier to do.
2. Ability to own more than a house... a farm, a castle, an inn something fun, with the ability to hire staff/guards buy animals.
3. Political power, rise up and claim the title of Dragon Born Emperor/Empress.
4. Kicking Thalmor a$$.

No coffee yet so I'm a bit dry in my creativity.

Three gates: one to Hammerfell (not Cyrodil, as I pointed out earlier), one to Cyrodil and another one to Morrowind.

i see where your coming from but Skyrim is 16square miles...thats....huge so i respectfully disagree on the smaller part

best Idea i have seen to be honest that would be so very good but again for PC users this will most likly be done through a mod sooner rather than later.

----

@ Echonite - as unlikley as it is maybe there going to open all the gates, this could also combine with a Thalmor plot if they make a move to claim Skyrim the Imperials could march in from there respective Provinces aswell as a massive epic battle they could also have the Thalmer succesivley take other imperial strong holds outside of Morrowind setting up a new Era without the Imperial Empire.

that could also Crush the stormcloak rebellion or force them to work with the Empire realising Ulfriic is a stuck up racist and that the imperials actually stand for much the same as the nords but on a larger scale and they do not wish to drive any nords out, unless the nords move it would still be primarily Nord inhabited .

would be interesting.
